Conversations – Ildikó Peter – epea03
Ildikó Peter (b. 1982) graduated from the Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design in Budapest, Hungary. She has lived and worked in Turkey, in Germany and is currently based between Paris (F) and Budapest (H).Her work focuses on landscape and urbanism in the form of documentary photography, with topics on the transformations of society in a historical context, producing large bodies of work. She uses large or medium format depending on the subject. In the past few years Ildikó has won numerous awards and scholarships including the Goldfinger Travel Scholarship Award from the Royal Institute of British Architects (2012) and the Lucien and Rodolf Herve Photography Prize in France (2014). Her latest works include “Northern England: the Industrial Revolution Route” – a series on the industrial North of England; “Budapest 4×5” – a documentary series on her native city; and “Borders” – a study of the Hungarian borderline, since the EU admission of the country and the opening of the Borders due to the Schengen treaty. Ildikó also uses video or sound in her work. Due to commissions and having spent one year at Steidl publishers working as graphic designer, she is strongly linked to printed media, and she likes to reformulate and present her work in the form of photobooks.

Conversations – Arianna Arcara – epea03
Arianna Arcara (b.1984 in Monza, Italy) studied photography at the European Institute of Design (IED) in Milan. Here she was awarded a scholarship by the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design. After graduating from university, she started to assist Magnum photographer Alex Majoli. In 2006 she co-founded Cesura, an independent photography group which concentrates on the production of photo projects. 2009 she was selected for “Young Blood 09 Annual selection of Italian talents in the world”. 2010 she won the ”Canon young photographer award” with her project “Woodward silence” and was selected for the Riccardo Pezza Award with her project “Po/The River”. In the same year she exhibits her project “Found Photos in Detroit” at Le Bal Space in Paris and in 2011 at Kulturhuset in Stockholm. Following the exhibition in 2012 “Found Photos in Detroit” was published. According to several ranks, it was considered among one of the best books of that year. 2013 she was selected to take part in “plat(T)form 2013”, an annual selection of rising European photographers at the Winterthur Fotomuseum. 2014 her project “Found Photos in Detroit” was selected by Martin Parr and Gerry Badger to be part of “The photo book: a History, Volume III”. Her work has been shown e.g. at: Spazio Forma, Milan; Triennale, Milan; Le Bal Space, Paris; MoCP, Chicago; Kulturhuset, Stockholm.

Marie Sommer (b. 1984) graduated in printed image department from the École des Arts Décoratifs in Paris and continues with her interest for printing technics and photography with studies in the École de la Photographie in Arles.
During her studies she starts publishing books with Editions Filigranes and the author Jean-Yves Jouannais. She has taken part in several residencies in Spain mostly: Bilbao Arte, Matadéro Madrid, Casa de Velázquez - Académie de France à Madrid, Planches-contact Deauville, and Feldstärke programme in Pact Zollverein Essen, Montevideo Marseille, Kyoto Art Center. Her works have been shown in various institutions and art spaces, including Le BAL Paris, Rencontres d’Arles, PhotoIrland Festival Dublin, PHoto España and Transphotographiques de Lille. Julião Sarmento. la chose, même – the real thing – Teaser

L'exposition la chose, même - the real thing propose au visiteur un panorama de l'oeuvre de Julião Sarmento, figure de proue de l'art contemporain portugais dont la carrière fut d'emblée internationale. L'artiste débute à l'orée des années 1970, marquées alors par un regain de liberté dû à la fin de la dictature salazariste. Au fil des années, Julião Sarmento a développé une oeuvre protéiforme, recourant tour à tour à la photographie, au dessin, à la sculpture, la vidéo ou la performance, tout en maintenant un lien étroit avec le texte, qu'il incorpore et assemble en fragments à ses oeuvres. Son travail est marqué par la présence iconique de la femme, égérie subtile et motif récurrent énigmatique qui jalonne ses propositions. L'oeuvre suggestive de Julião Sarmento interroge les thèmes de la représentation et particulièrement ceux du désir et de ses mécanismes. Le spectateur devient à fortiori voyeur d'une vision contingente, hypothétique et se laisse aisément décontenancer par les propos implicites de l'artiste.

Ami Barak est curateur indépendant et critique d’art, basé à Paris.
Depuis une vingtaine d’années, il a été le curateur de nombreux projets à l’international, parmi lesquels ces dernières années : House Trip en 2007 dans le cadre de la foire Art Forum à Berlin, Art Focus 5 – Que peut l’art encore ? à Jérusalem en 2008 avec Bernard Blistène, Re-construction, Young Artists Biennial 3 à Bucarest en 2008, Americans in New York, éditions 1, 2 et 3 à la Galerie Michel Rein, à Paris en 2008 puis en 2012 et en 2014; Le Jardin Emprunté dans le Jardin du Palais Royal à Paris en 2010, Romances sans paroles à la Kunsthalle de Mulhouse en 2010, Communism Never Happened à la Charim Galerie à Vienne en 2011, Honey, I Rearranged the Collection, avec les oeuvres de la collection de Philippe Cohen
