CRAZY DUBROVNIK STORIES | Old City Walking Tour | Sail Croatia Day 3 of 8
Dubrovnik has some crazy history so today we made our way from the port and took a walking tour of the old city. Sail Croatia... ⬇ Click 'Show More' ⬇
A walking tour of Dubrovnik seemed like the best way to learn about the old town, the city history, the walls and castle development and just how the old town came to be. We weren't wrong. Beyond the Game of Thrones fame, Dubrovnik has an incredible past.
History ranging from attacks, bombs, fires and more have shaped the city of Dubrovnik to where it is today. This tour was only an hour long and gave us so much insight into Croatia as a whole, while also providing a great tour of the Dubrovnik town inside the walls as well.
This is day 3 of our Sail Croatia Explorer Cruise and we LOVE IT! We were docked in the Dubrovnik Port, well actually it's Port Gruz, and made our way in to the city for one of the optional excursions provided by Sail Croatia.
Sail Croatia is known for it's Navigator cruise, it's more tailored towards the party vibe and younger crowds. We were so pleased to hear they also offer multiple other cruises and the Explorer cruise was right up our alley! Check out the Sail Croatia Explorer Cruise here:

Showcasing the tastes and sights of Dubrovnik
5 Days in Dubrovnik, Croatia - Bosnia, Kayaking, Ancient City Walls, Historical and Food Tours!
After my three weeks in the Czech Republic I met up with Julia in Dubrovnik. August in Dubrovnik is the busiest time of year so hotels were expensive! We ended up with an Airbnb that still wasn't cheap, but had an amazing view of everything since we were near the top of the hill overlooking Old Town. The hike up to the top was rough, endless steps, but a great workout.
We packed so much into the short time we were there, a tour to Bosnia and Herzegovina including Pocitelj, Mostar and Kravice Falls with Amico Tours. Then we walked the Ancient City Walls thanks to the Dubrovnik Tourism Board. We kayaked in the ocean right outside of the walls to a cool beach cove where Julia learned a little Crobran martial arts from our tour guide. Check out the link below for more info on Crobran.
We had an Old Town city tour from Filip who was dressed in a traditional outfit, his email is below, contact him he also does a Game of Thrones tour. Finally we had a great food tour with Dubrovnik Food Tours, so much good food and wine.
I think we did quite a bit, considering how crowded it is during peak season. Not bad though, I was expecting worse from what I heard from people about going in August. But it was time to move on to Kotor, we had a 4 hour bus ride to catch right after the food tour.

Our visit Dubrovnik travel guide covers some of the top attractions including a food guide to local Croatian food, top sightseeing tourist attractions and the city by day and by night including visiting the old city walls, palaces, cathedrals, island hopping and more. We cover activities you won't find in a typical Dubrovnik tourism brochure, Dubrovnik itinerary or Dubrovnik, Croatia city tour also known as Grad Dubrovnik Hrvatska.
20 Things to do in Dubrovnik, Italy Travel Guide Video Transcript: (Grad Dubrovnik Hrvatska):
Is there a more visually stunning city than Dubrovnik? Nicknamed the Pearl of the Adriatic, this destination is sure to capture your gaze. Between it’s white limestone buildings, bright terracotta rooftops and cobalt blue waters that sparkle under the sunlight you'll be dazzled during your visit. This was the final stop of our travels in Croatia, and what a way to finish of our trip.
We walked up, down, and around the Old Town clocking thousands of steps each day, and in this video we’re going to take you on a tour of of the city and show you 15 things to do in Dubrovnik.
We entered the Old Town through Ploće Gate, which is in the east end of the city strolling along the Old Port. We explored the Old Town on foot visiting Dubrovnik Cathedral, which at one point was even funded by England’s King Richard the Lionheart, after he was saved from a shipwreck on the nearby island of Lokrum.
We wandered over to Gundulić Square where a few vendors had set up for the day to sniff out a few treats. We stopped at Big Onofrio Fountain, which was built in 1438 as part of a water system that supplied water from a spring 12km away.
Then, another attraction unexpectedly caught our attention: The Old Pharmacy at the Franciscan Monastery.
Founded in the year 1317, this in-house pharmacy was set up by Franciscan friars and would go on to service the town as well as people living beyond the walls. There’s still a pharmacy within the monastery today.
We tried to visit the Rector’s Palace, which was built in the late 15th century for the elected rector who governed Dubrovnik, but it was under renovation.
A sightseeing boat tour called the “Panorama Excursion” departed from the Old Port and went out around Lokrum Island.
We decided to eat at Mea Culpa, and ordered one Dalmatian Pizza and one Seafood Pizza.
It was time for the main attraction: walking around Dubrovnik’s Old City walls. Admission is 150 kuna for a 2 kilometres walk that takes about 1 hour to complete.
The first set of walls were built in the 9th century, and then in the 14th century these were strengthened with forts along the circumference. This attraction is worth the price tag. From here you can admire the all of the old town, gaze at the shimmering waters of the Adriatic, and look out to the neighbouring Lokrum.
After that quick ice cream break, we walked over to Fort Lovrijenac, also known as St. Lawrence Fortress.
Perched on a cliff 37 meters above the sea, this fortress dominates sea and land entrances from the western side of the city.
We made a stop at Buza Bar, which is great place for drinks anytime of day, but especially so around sunset. Gradac Park, was also used as one of the Game of Thrones filming locations, so you may recognize it from the Purple Wedding.
That’s a wrap for Dubrovnik and the rest of our time in Croatia! We hope this video gave you ideas of some of the things you can do in Dubrovnik on your own visit.
This is part of our Travel in Croatia video series showcasing Croatian food, Croatian culture and Croatian cuisine.

Dine With a View (Restaurants in Dubrovnik, Croatia)

While filming my music video Keep Your Head Up in Dubrovnik, Croatia my crew and I discovered two amazing restaurants with absolutely best views in all Dubrovnik (and that possibly means the whole Croatian coast). The management of company that owns those restaurants hosted our crew and gave us an amazing and unforgettable experience of the Jewel Walled-in City of Dubrovnik!
CROATIA FOOD RECAP AFTER 2 MONTHS IN SPLIT ????
After spending two months in Croatia, we wanted to recap some of our favourite meals while enjoying some traditional foods in Split!
Our Croatian food vlog starts with some sandwiches filled with skinless meat sausage called ćevapi. Then we talk about our peka meal from our previous video where we ate fresh rooster and veal cooked in the fire under an iron dome. For dessert we have some yummy fritule doughnut pastries and show you our favourite ice cream place in Split. Both of our Airbnb hosts in Split treated us to delicious food like sarma (cabbage rolls), rakia (fruit brandy), charcuterie and Croatian moon cookies called kifli. For dinner we visit a local konoba (tavern) to try Croatian black risotto and a wild boar pasticada (stew). This is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to food in Croatia but we hope you'll try some during your next visit to this beautiful country!
