VIRAL: Hot Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman rocks to Kalinka
Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova rocks to Kalinka Russian traditional song.
Dozens of dignitaries at the Russia-ASEAN summit in Sochi have been left open-mouthed and awed, after Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova performed a full-blooded rendition of the traditional Kalinka dance.
Zakharova got the idea 24 hours earlier, when she was passing a rehearsing orchestra in one of the tents.
“I made an off-hand comment to bystanders that I could do a dance myself. So, I had to keep my word,” she said.
Still, few expected her to follow through on the promise, so there was surprise when Zakharova took to a vast empty stage to the accompaniment of a full orchestra to perform a version of the iconic Russian folk dance, with hundreds of journalists in attendance.
When the performance was complete, the audience burst into loud applause.
Zakharova is the Russian ministry’s first-ever female spokesperson, and has become well-known for eschewing diplomatic niceties for plain-spoken rhetoric.
Russia: 'Large-scale' cyberattack hits Russian Foreign Ministry – Zakharova
Russia's Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova reported a large-scale hacking attack on Foreign Ministry's information resources, speaking at the press-conference in Moscow, Friday. According to the spokesperson, the cyberattack took place on June 29 affecting ministry's networks.
SOT, Maria Zakharova, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson (Russian): The e-mail of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs was subjected to a large-scale hacking attack. The investigation into the circumstances of the attack on information resources of the Foreign Ministry's central office and its missions across Russian Federation and foreign institutions showed that mass mailing took place on June 29 before noon. Fake emails were sent to [the Ministry's] email accounts - about 138 cases were identified. The emails were sent from the earlier compromised email account belonging to the Russian Embassy in Iran and the IP address was registered in Hungary.
Maria Zakharova, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson (Russian): Due to NATO's publishing of the film about Forest Brotherhood, I would like to comment on that topic once again. We noticed
SOT, Maria Zakharova, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson (Russian): This video, I believe, is eight minutes long, this is pure propaganda. One could understand if the alliance had opened a discussion and started talking to the users about documents published, but that was just pure propaganda. There are no documents, there is no discussion, and this is not an academic conference. This is just an artistic execution of the political put-up job.

RUSSIA: MOSCOW: GERMAN FOREIGN MINISTER KLAUS KINKEL VISIT
German/Russian/Nat
German Foreign Minister Klaus Kinkel tried to reassure Russian leaders Wednesday that NATO's eastward expansion is in no way aimed against Russia.
Kinkel is in Moscow for two days of talks on European security.
He met with the Russian Prime Minister Viktor Chernomyrdin and parliament speaker Gennady Seleznyev.
Russia is concerned that a NATO which includes East European members would be able to move troops and equipment closer to Russia's borders.
When he arrived at Russia's Duma for talks with parliament speaker Gennady Seleznyev - German Foreign Minister Klaus Kinkel was greeted by a chorus of protest.
That protest was echoed inside the Duma by Seleznyev.
High on the agenda for Wednesday's talks - the planned expansion of NATO.
Seleznyev insisted that the Russian parliament and President Boris Yeltsin were unanimous in their opposition to the possible expansion of the alliance.
Russia is concerned that a NATO with East European members would be able to move troops and equipment much closer to Russia's borders.
Russia says this poses a threat to their security and also creates divisions in Europe.
Kinkel then met with the Russian Prime Minister Viktor Chernomyrdin.
He sought to reassure Chernomyrdin that NATO enlargement was not aimed against Moscow and that the West wanted to build European security jointly with Russia.
SOUNDBITE: (German)
Of course I also talked with him (Chernomyrdin) about the further development in Europe, especially the economic, political and security structure which can only happen with Russia, and not against. That's the decisive question. We do not want to exclude Russia, we want to include it.

The German Foreign Minister's next meeting was with Russia's defence minister Igor Rodionov.
Again, the talks centred around planned NATO expansion.
And Again, Kinkel sought to ease Russian security fears.
SOUNDBITE: (German)
There is nothing in mind that could threaten Russia, so we will develop co-operation and friendship.
SUPER-CAPTION: Klaus Kinkel, German Foreign Minister.
Rodionov remains skeptical about NATO expansion - recounting a story of how in the Soviet era, the Communists dealt with such security threats.
SOUNDBITE: (Russian)
Once Khruschov slammed down with his shoe in the UN. He did this because there was the power of the Soviet Army behind him, the rockets, the nuclear weapons
SUPER-CAPTION: Igor Rodionov, Russian Defence Minister.
Kinkel is one of many NATO foreign ministers trying to convince Russia that their security fears are unwarranted.
They want to reach agreement before an alliance summit in Madrid in July which is expected to issue membership invitations to Poland, Hungary and the Czech republic.
United States Secretary of State Madeleine Albright will pay the next visit to Russia - at the end of the week.

U.S. Ambassador to Russia meets with Moscow's Deputy Foreign Minister to discuss..
러 외무차관-주러 美대사 면담…한반도 문제 공조 논의
There's been speculation that North Korean leader Kim Jong-un might visit Russia in the next few months.
In the mean time, Russia and the U.S. have held their own meeting on North Korea issues.
Lee Ji-won has more.
U.S. Ambassador to Russia Jon Huntsman and Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Igor Morgulov met on Wednesday where they discussed coordination of efforts to resolve the Korean Peninsula issues.
Russia's foreign ministry announced the meeting,... but did not give any more details on the specific agenda.
Their meeting comes at the request of Washington's diplomat,... amid growing speculation about a possible Pyeongyang-Moscow summit.
Ever since Hanoi, North Korea and Russia have been increasing their exchanges,... with officials traveling between the countries,... including North Korean protocol chief Kim Chang-son's visit to Moscow last month.
It's expected that Ambassador Huntsman was updated on the details of a possible Kim-Putin summit,... while also seeking Russia's cooperation in helping Washington resume denuclearization talks with the North.
The two sides have been at a standstill since the Hanoi summit collapsed in February,... with North Korea wanting a phased dismantlement of its nuclear program in exchange for the partial removal of sanctions at each step,... while the U.S. is asking Pyeongyang to take concrete denuclearization steps and provide an overall roadmap in exchange for sanctions relief.
Now another Washington-Moscow meeting is coming up,... as Deputy Foreign Minister Morgulov announced that Washington's nuclear envoy Stephen Biegun will be visiting the country sometime in April.
This is a reciprocal visit to Morgulov's trip to Washington in late January.
During his meetings with counterparts from around the world after the Hanoi summit, Biegun has been stressing the need for the international community to continue implementing sanctions on the North.
But with U.S. President Donald Trump repeatedly softening his tone on new sanctions on the regime,... it remains to be seen if Biegun will push the need for sanctions and pressure when he meets Morgulov later this month.

Russian Foreign Minister Meets US Secretary of State in Moscow
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov met with U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry in Moscow on Thursday, discussing the Syria and Ukraine issues.
Lavrov said it is the third time that Kerry visited Russia in the past six months and the two sides have had successful cooperation in various aspects in the past, based on the balance of interests.
Our cooperation on Syria and our persistence allowed us to achieve these results. We were working and continue working based on equality, we worked based on the balance of interests not only between Moscow and Washington but that of all the parties involved within and out of Syria. This was the key to our success and I'm sure if we'll use this method in the solution to other international issues and our bilateral relations we have a good future ahead, said Lavrov.
Russia and the United States have worked very closely together, along with our allies and members of the international Syria support group. And it is undeniable that the result of that work has produced some progress. There has been a fragile but nevertheless beneficial reduction in violence, some say as much as 85 to 90 percent in Syria, said Kerry.
Kerry said many people have placed hope on his visit, and he hoped the visit can yield some solutions for the Syrian situation and the Ukrainian crisis.
Proved that two powerful nations that have been able to find cooperation in the past few years despite difference have an ability in the face of this urgency to do what is necessary to meet the challenge, and I look forward to some very constructive conversations today to that effect, he said.
