Welcome to Hong Kong's Central Business District, where we show you the most famous buildings in Hong Kong. The Hong Kong skyline is probably the most famous in the world, with its iconic buildings, each with different features, and designed by feng shui masters to attract wealth and prosperity for the country.
Each one is a different shape, colour, and even angled differently. Some 1200 international multinational companies are based in Hong Kong, and Central also hosts the biggest international banks. including HSBC, Citibank, Standard Chartered, Bank of America, JP Morgan, Morgan Stanley, and many more.
Central being the CBD of Hong Kong is also where many doctors and lawyers are located, as well as the legislative council, final court of appeal. Cheung Kong is definitely one of the most famous iconic buildings, owned by Li Ka Shing.
'Central (also Central District; Chinese: 中環) is the central business district of Hong Kong. It is located in Central and Western District, on the north shore of Hong Kong Island, across Victoria Harbour from Tsim Sha Tsui, the southernmost point of Kowloon Peninsula. The area was the heart of Victoria City, although that name is rarely used today.
As the central business district of Hong Kong, it is the area where many multinational financial services corporations have their headquarters. Consulates general and consulates of many countries are also located in this area, as is Government Hill, the site of the government headquarters. The area, with its proximity to Victoria Harbour, has served as the centre of trade and financial activities from the earliest days of the British colonial era in 1841, and continues to flourish and serve as the place of administration after the transfer of sovereignty to China in 1997.
Central is located on the north shore of Hong Kong Island, across Victoria Harbour from Tsim Sha Tsui, the southernmost point of Kowloon Peninsula. It is bordered in the west by Sheung Wan, with the border being along Aberdeen Street (also called Wing Kut Street). It is bordered in the east by Admiralty, an eastern extension of the central business district. As such, Admiralty is sometimes considered a part of Central. Central is bordered in the south by Mid-levels, an area halfway up Victoria Peak. The boundary between Central and Mid-levels is not clearly defined.
For district council elections purposes, the area, together with Admiralty, correspond roughly to the Chung Wan constituency.[2] The boundaries of such constituencies may be subject to modification.[3]

The Legislative Council Building (traditional Chinese: 立法會大樓, former 立法局大樓)of Hong Kong, also called the Former Supreme Court Building (前最高法院大樓), was the home of the former Supreme Court until 1985, when it was renamed and became home to the Legislative Council of Hong Kong. It is located in Central Hong Kong, along the eastern side of Statue Square, directly west of Chater Garden.
The Supreme Court of Hong Kong was moved to the Supreme Court Building, Hong Kong after 1985 and remained there until 1997. It is now renamed the High Court Building.
The building was designed by Sir Aston Webb and Ingress Bell, the British architect responsible for the eastern façade of Buckingham Palace and the Cromwell Road frontage of the Victoria and Albert Museum in London.
It was built on reclaimed land, and opened on 15 January 1912. The two-storey granite building is neo-classical in style supported by Ionic columns. It is surmounted by a blind-folded statue of Justice, represented by the Themis[1], the Greek Goddess of Justice and Law. This statue is a replica of the one erected on the Old Bailey of London.
In 1978, this building was severely affected by the construction of MTR; therefore, it had to undergo some restoration afterwards.
The Exterior of the Old Supreme Court is one of the 92 declared monuments of Hong Kong.
For a time in the 1980s, the Supreme Court was moved to the Former French Mission Building, which was then used by the Victoria District Court.
Following the move to the Tamar site in 2011, the current building will revert back to use as home to the Court of Final Appeal (Hong Kong).[2]

Anne Cheng: From Confucian Orthodoxy to Chinese Modernity
Abstract:
For the past hundred years or so, ever since the early 20th century, the issue of the possibility for China to develop a democratic political system has been hotly debated, both by Chinese and Western theoreticians. Among the numerous propositions that have emerged, one of the most prominent is the attempt made by some new Confucians (most of them chose to leave the Continent after 1949 and took refuge in Hong Kong and Taiwan) to delve into the resources offered by the Chinese intellectual tradition with a view to dig out indigenous antecedents to democracy. Ever since the 1980s, when mainland China jumped in its turn on the new Confucian bandwagon, such mobilization of tradition culture has taken a rather more assertive turn, with the search of a specifically Chinese way. Central to this revival of a Chinese political way of thinking is the canonical text of the Great Learning (Daxue). By establishing a continuity between ethics and politics, it raises, however, a number of problems and contradictions which shall be discussed in the course of this lecture.

Alain Robert, the self-styled French 'Spiderman' who has climbed some of the world's tallest buildings without permission, scales Paris's tallest building, the 210-metre-high Montparnasse Tower, on Tuesday. Robert says he did the stunt to express support for the victims of the earthquake in Nepal. Robert reached the top of the tower in less than 50 minutes, putting up a Nepal flag en route, before being met by police.

China has expanded an unprecedented lockdown during the country’s most important holiday to 13 cities and at least 36 million people, as efforts to contain the deadly new coronavirus were stepped up around the world and the first cases were reported in Europe.
Restrictions on movement were widened on Friday in China in an effort to stop the spread of the disease. Late on Friday, authorities confirmed a further 15 deaths and 180 new cases of coronavirus, bringing the total number of fatalities to 41 people and more than 1,000 affected.
Cases have been reported across South Korea, Japan, Singapore, Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan, the United States, Thailand and Vietnam. On Friday the first cases were reported in Europe with France saying it had identified three cases. The French health minister, Agnès Buzyn, said it was likely there would be other cases.

‘Jetmen’ fly push boundaries of human flight over China’s Zhangjiajie scenic area

Daredevil “jetmen” jumped out of a plane with small jet engines strapped to their backs for a stunt flight over the dramatic scenery of Zhangjiajie in China’s central province of Hunan. For their flight on November 14, 2019, they used carbon fibre wings with attached jetpacks to zip around at speeds up to 400kp/h (250mph). The demonstration was part of Expo 2020 Dubai’s “Mission: Human Flight” programme, which aims to develop equipment that ultimately allows “fully autonomous human flight”.

China, France Hold Joint Naval Exercise
Chinese and French navies recently held a joint naval exercise on the East China sea, focusing on ship-checking and suspect-seizing.
The La Fayette-class frigate Courbet (F712) of the French Navy and frigate Zhuzhou of the Chinese Navy participated in the exercise.
