Go Riverwalk Salutes Hugh Taylor Birch State Park
See a slice of pristine Florida on an island where you can swim in the ocean on one side, fish on the other and canoe down the middle.
Hugh Taylor Birch State Park sits on a beautiful barrier island. You can drive through 180 acres (73 hectares) and find a spot to soak up the sun for the day. If you crave action, hike or cycle along the nature trails, or canoe in the lake. The park’s white sand beach is quieter than many other public beaches around Fort Lauderdale.
Start at the Terramar Visitor Center for an introduction to the history of the area, as well as information about flora and fauna you will find here. The park takes its name from Hugh Taylor Birch, who saw the beauty of this coastal area and bought three miles (five kilometers) of undeveloped coastline for a dollar an acre in 1895. His winter home, built in 1940, is an example of Mediterranean-style art deco architecture, uncommon in this part of Florida. Today the building is the park’s visitor center.
Free, ranger-guided walks are held on certain days, covering a variety of topics. Contact the Ranger Station for departure points and a schedule of tour topics. The Ranger Station also offers a self-guided audio tour you can download to your cell phone. (It’s free but a donation is appreciated.) On the three-quarter-mile (1.2-kilometer) Mid Trail learn about the park’s history, ecology, and wildlife. Birch introduced some of the flora and fauna himself.
See more native species along the 20-minute Coastal Hammock Trail. Signs along the way point out significant plants, such as white stopper tree, which gives off a pungent, musky scent.
Rent a canoe and explore the mile-long (1.6-kilometer) freshwater lagoon known as Long Lake. Fishing is allowed along the inter-coastal waterway on the west side of the park. M. Cruz Rentals has an outlet inside the park, with bicycles and rollerblades for rent, plus Segway tours.
Hugh Taylor Birch State Park is a 10-minute drive northwest of central Fort Lauderdale. Bring a packed lunch or picnic basket as there are plenty of facilities, including restrooms and grills. The park is open every day of the year.A short walk from beachside shops and condominiums, this park is an oasis of tropical hammocks-a gift from Hugh Taylor Birch to Florida's posterity.
His former estate preserves four distinct natural communities, nestled between the Atlantic Ocean and the Intracoastal Waterway. Visitors can rent a canoe and paddle along a mile-long freshwater lagoon or fish from the seawall.
Nature lovers can hike along two short trails and learn about local plants and wildlife while bicyclists and skaters glide along the paved park road.
Visitors can access the beach via the pedestrian tunnel under A1A. Picnic areas overlook the channel; pavilions with water and electricity are available for rental. A group/youth campground is available to organized groups. Located on East Sunrise Boulevard in Fort Lauderdale, off A1A.

PADDLEBOARDS AND ROYALTY!! (Day 7)
Completed Day 7 of the cleanse and it was definitely difficult to not eat that pizza.. ah. However; Matt, Daniel and our friend Dave all went paddleboarding in the Sarasota Bay. We went through the Mangroves and I have never done that before. Afterwards, I joined my fellow past DeSoto Queens, Princesses' and past court members for a pool party/meeting. We had a blast. I was exhausted afterwards and relaxed.

Things To Do In Fort Lauderdale - Ft Lauderdale Things To Do 2
Wondering what to do today in Ft Lauderdale? Visit
In the meantime here's some great ideas for things to do in Fort Lauderdale.
Here's a quick video to give you a few ideas.
And if you're looking for more ideas on what to do and where to go when you're in Ft Lauderdale, be sure to stop by our website at FtLauderdaleVideoGuide.com.
You can even sign up for our weekly email alert so you'll know where to go and what to do in Fort Lauderdale every weekend. Your Things To Do In Fort Lauderdale guide!
In the meantime, here's a short list to get your wheels turning on things to do in Fort Lauderdale:
1. Rent a jet ski or wave runner. You've seen them before. They're little hauling asterisk, one man or two man boats, made for fun in the sun. And this is one of those things to do that everyone in Fort Lauderdale looks forward to doing every now and then!
2. Rent a paddle board which is basically very long and wide surfboard. It's made long and wide so it's easy to stand up. You'll use a long handled paddle to paddle around and get a little exercise. Or you could just lay there in the water and soak up some sun too. That, of course, is a Fort Lauderdale Things To Do tradition!
3. Go snorkeling! Very relaxing and exciting at the same time because you never know what you're going to see or find off Fort Lauderdale Beach. Even the kids can enjoy it in the shallows. But make sure you keep a close eye on the kids and make sure they're wearing the proper safety gear! And as a little tip, let me tell you this ... get yourself some GOOD snorkeling gear (mask, snorkel and fins). Don't buy the el-cheapo brands because it will only take enjoyment out of the experience. If you spend a few dollars extra to get the BETTER gear you'll be glad you did once you're in the water!
4. Go scuba diving! This is one of the greatest sports in Fort Lauderdale! And don't worry if you don't have your own scuba gear, there are plenty of dive shops in and around Ft Lauderdale Beach that will be glad to rent you the gear you need. Fort Lauderdale has some incredible reefs to explore just offshore and there are plenty of dive boats around whether you're interested in going out with just 1 buddy or going out with a full dive crew. Just remember, never go alone, right? RIGHT!
5. Wind Surfing is another water sport you might want to give a try. It's requires quite bit more coordination than paddle boarding but it can be much more exhilarating once you get the hang of it! You'll see wind surfers off Fort Lauderdale Beach on just about any given day there's a wind blowing.
5. Deep Sea Fishing in Fort Lauderdale is something you absolutely want to experience at some time in your life. It should be right up there on top of your Things To Do list! You can charter a local fishing boat to take you out with your family and friends or you can go out with a whole group (other Fort Lauderdale Vacationers) on one of the local drift fishing boats.
6. Have you ever toured a city by WATER TAXI? You can in Ft Lauderdale! Check out our website at FtLauderdaleVideoGuide.com/daytime-activities and we'll provide a listing of water taxi stops so you can see some of the local spots where you'll be able to hop on board a local water taxi.
7. Take a Fort Lauderdale sightseeing cruise on one of the local boats like the Jungle Queen or Captain Joes Tour Boat. Again, check out our site at FtLauderdaleVideoGuide.com under the daytime activities tab for more information.
8. Take a tour of Fort Lauderdale Beach and the Las Olas shopping, dining and art district by catching a ride on the local Fort Lauderdale Beach Trolley.
9. In the mood for a little gambling? You could go for a little fast action at the local horse track or the maybe the dog track. Or play some slots or poker at the Hollywood Hard Rock Casino, or head over to Dania to bet on Jai Lai. Yep, there's plenty to do here in the Fort Lauderdale area. ... and yes, you can bet on it!
10. Are you a golfer? Play a round of golf on a few of the best golf courses in South Florida! Fort Lauderdale Golf Courses are among the best in Florida. Check out our site for more info on local golf courses.
11. Getting dark out? Be sure to check out our site for a list of some of the Best Restaurants in Fort Lauderdale! We've got a video up now on some of the best steak restaurants in Ft Lauderdale and we'll be listing other top restaurants in the area ASAP!
12. And of course, when the sun goes down here in Fort Lauderdale, there are still plenty of things to do. We'll list several of the most popular Fort Lauderdale Nightclubs, Bars and Hot Spots in the area where you can dine, drink, dance and relax. There are plenty of bars, pubs and taverns in and around Fort Lauderdale.
You'll never run out of Things To Do In Fort Lauderdale!

North 2 Paddleboards, quality hand made paddleboards and paddles from Delray Beach, FL.
North 2 Board Sports is a surf and lifestyle brand owned and operated by two true watermen. Ryan Pena and Clayton Dunn became good friends while stand up paddleboarding off of Delray Beach, Florida’s “North 2” area of the city’s beach. Ryan was born in Southern California where he learned to surf and found his love for the ocean in the North County San Diego area near Encinitas. Clayton, a Delray Beach native and long time South Florida surfer has over 40 years experience in the surf industry. At a time “Clay” even worked in a surfboard factory with Nomad Surfboards back in the 1970′s and 80′s.
North 2 Board Sports mission was to build durable, affordable, quality, lightweight surf and stand up paddleboards that are not only great looking, but also great performers. All of our boards and paddles are built using only quality components and precision CNC blank shaping to obtain optimal strength, lightweights, and durability.
