Government unleashes lab-grown wasps on St. Joseph Island
The emerald ash borer is a devastating invasive beetle which has killed millions of ash trees in Canada and the United States since it was discovered here in 2002. In response to this threat, Canadian Forest Service is using a biological control program against this invasive pest in an attempt to limit or slow its continued spread and impact.
This week, parasitic wasps, grown locally at the Great Lakes Forestry Centre, were released at Fort St. Joseph National Historic Site.

Archaeology with GoPro
Throughout the 2016 field season, the Fort St. Joseph Archaeological Project filmed hours of footage using two Go-Pro cameras to demonstrate the ways in which we work and involve the community. The footage captures excavations at the site and the Project's public outreach programs from the perspective of the field school students and summer campers of all ages. We hope to provide viewers with a first person perspective into how archaeologists and community members experience the site of Fort St. Joseph, while also testing the film's ability to attract and educate new audiences. Please complete our brief survey so that we can see your response on the video.

Fort Saint-Frederic - Crown Point - New York - USA
Fort Saint-Frédéric was a French fort built on Lake Champlain to secure the region against British colonization and control the lake. It was located in modern New York State across the lake from modern Vermont at the town of Crown Point, New York.
Construction was started in 1734 by Gaspard-Joseph Chaussegros de Léry. When complete, Fort Saint-Frédéric walls were twelve feet thick and four stories high, with cannons on each level. It was manned by hundreds of officers and troops, principally from Les Compagnies Franches de la Marine.
The fort was never attacked, and was destroyed in 1759 before the advance of a large (more than 10,000 man) British army under General Jeffery Amherst.
The British constructed the much larger Fort Crown Point next to the ruins of Saint-Frédéric; the new fort also never came under attack. Its small garrison was captured in 1775 in the early days of the American Revolutionary War, after which Fort Crown Point also fell into ruin. The fort sites at Crown Point were preserved in the Crown Point State Historic Site in 1910, and both ruins are National Historic Landmarks.
