Fort DeChartres, Prairie Du Rocher, IL- Footsteps (Ghost?)
April 14, 2001 Ryan McNamara and I went to this rebuilt Fort.
The Fort was originally built by the French before the United States was formed. Great Britain took it over when the French abandonded it. It was later abandonded and sat crumbling from around the early 1800's to early 1900's. In 1910, the state purchased the old fort and it was partially rebuilt around the 1920-30's.
What you see today is the foundations of the original fort with a partial re-build of some of the barracks and the north fort wall.
On this day, we were the only tourists here and only around 3-4 emloyees. No one was inside the building we were exploring. As you hear on the tape, our footsteps on the stone floor is very different from the footsteps you soon hear.
At 1:27:41 you hear what appears to be footsteps on a wooden surface. Just before the steps you hear a rumbling sound, which is only me moving something. As you hear on the video, I think that Ryan is doing something to make the noise and he believes the same of me.
The only wooden surface is the second floor and the only access up there is from the steps which are seen on the video as the steps are happening.
Ryan and I went upstairs and believe the steps, based on the tone of them, were made at the top of the stairs, on the second floor entrance to the steps.
What do you think?

The Kaskaskia Bell State Memorial is a brick building that houses a bell cast in 1741 by King Louis XV (1710-1774) of France as a gift to the Catholic Church of the Illinois Country. Originally located at the Immaculate Conception Parish at Kaskaskia, the bell was rung by villagers to celebrate their July 4, 1778 liberation from the British by American Colonel George Rogers Clark (1752-1818). It became known as the Liberty Bell of the West. The Memorial also contains murals depicting scenes from Kaskaskia history.
