Firt Souville was one of the outer forts protecting Verdun along with Fort Vaux and Douaumont.
Unlike the other two forts, Fort Souville has been pretty much left to the wilds and so is now just part of the forest. I did not research this fort enough to know where to go because after visiting I realised that there was alot to see in the forest. I would suggest if you are going to Verdun to research Fort Souville and find a map that showes you where the main features are located.
Having said that I did meet two of the intimidating Pamart casemates. I imagine these spitting MG fire would have been a sight to behold.

After their major attacks on 21 February, 10 April and 25 May 1916, the Germans occupied the elevated côte du Poivre and the côte des Chambretteson the right bank of the Meuse, as well as Fort Douaumont, a particularly important vantage point which was to become an essential part of the enemy's logistical plan.
On 7 June, the enemy got as far as the defending ranks on the Fort Vaux, and those on the front lines reached the Eastern slopes of the high ridge punctuated by Thiaumont, the ruins of Fleury village and the Fort Souville.
If the Germans managed ito take this ridge, their artillery would be able to fire straight at Verdun and the bridges over the Meuse from less than 5000m away, thus putting the French in grave danger.If, on the other hand, the ridge remained French, then not only would it be possible to defend the right bank, as Commander in Chief Joffre ordered, but it might also be possible to counter-attack and take back the forts at Vaux and Douaumont. While the obdurate enemy charged to take the Thiaumont-Fleury-Souville ridge, the period from June to September constituted the last judgement at Verdun, a horrible drama in which the epic, partially destroyed (1) Fort of Souville saved the day no fewer than three times.On 23 June, when the violent German offensive began, Souville dominated and flanked the entire combat zone. The French artillery used it as a look-out post from which to barrage the blocked enemy infantry with projectiles. On 11 July at dawn, the Germans charged at Souville. They did the same on the 12th, and got as far as the fort. Thanks to the artillery and the counter-attacks of the 7th Regiment and the 25th Batallion of Light Infantrymen, the few enemy soldiers that actually reached the fort were imprisoned. Souville escaped German clutches.
The parallel ridges of Froideterre and Souville - Thiaumont and Froideterre on the one hand, the Forts of Vaux and Souville on the other - all played a major role in directing the enemy attack. Once Thiaumont was taken, the enemy effort ground to a halt on Froideterre. Fort Vaux fell to the Germans on 7 June, but on 11 and 12 July, Souville came to the rescue once again.

Fort Douaumont was part of a ring of 19 large defensive forts protecting the city of Verdun, France since the 1890s. It was easily captured by the Germans in 1916 because the French believed it could not resist bombardments from the German. The French recaptured it but with tremendous losses at the closure to the Battle of Verdun in 1916.

During the 300 days of the Battle of Verdun (21 February 1916 – 19 December 1916) approximately 230,000 men died out of a total of 700,000 casualties (dead, wounded and missing). The battle became known in German as Die Hölle von Verdun (English: The Hell of Verdun), or in French as L'Enfer de Verdun, and was conducted on a battlefield covering less than 20 square kilometers
The ossuary is a memorial containing the remains of both French and German soldiers who died on the Verdun battlefield. Through small outside windows, the skeletal remains of at least 130,000 unidentified combatants of both nations can be seen filling up alcoves at the lower edge of the building.
Douaumont is a commune in the Meuse department in Grand Est in north-eastern France. The village was destroyed during World War I.
Fort Douaumont (French Fort de Douaumont) was the largest and highest fort on the ring of 19 large defensive works which had protected the city of Verdun, France since the 1890s. By 1915, the French General Staff had concluded that even the best-protected forts of Verdun could not resist bombardments from the German 420 mm (16.5 in) Gamma guns. These new super-heavy howitzers had easily taken several large Belgian forts out of action in August 1914. Fort Douaumont and other Verdun forts were judged ineffective and had been partly disarmed and left virtually undefended since 1915. On 25 February 1916, Fort Douaumont was entered and occupied without a fight by a small German raiding party comprising only 19 officers and 79 men. The easy fall of Fort Douaumont, only three days after the beginning of the Battle of Verdun, shocked the French Army. It set the stage for the rest of a battle which lasted nine months, at enormous human cost. Douaumont was finally recaptured by three infantry divisions of the Second Army, during the First Offensive Battle of Verdun on 24 October 1916. This event brought closure to the battle in 1916.

Au mois de mai, les Français essaient de se rapprocher de Douaumont.
Le 1er mai, le général Pétain est remplacé par le général Nivelle, que Joffre juge plus offensif. Sous les ordres de Nivelle, le général Mangin tente de reprendre le fort de Douaumont mais échoue, en raison notamment d’une préparation d’artillerie insuffisante.
Au début du mois de juin, les Allemands, malgré des pertes importantes, s’entêtent à vouloir prendre Verdun. Au prix d’intenses efforts et au terme d’un siège de sept jours, ils parviennent à s’emparer du fort de Vaux le 7 juin. La résistance héroïque du commandant Raynal et de ses hommes reclus à l’intérieur du fort de Vaux, manquant d’air et d’eau, est saluée par l‘ennemi au moment de la reddition, devenue inévitable.
Le 23 juin, après un bombardement incessant, d’autant plus traumatisant que les Allemands utilisent des obus à gaz toxique, 60 000 hommes s’avancent sur un front de 6 km. Fleury est pris par l’ennemi. Les pertes sont nombreuses, des deux côtés. Mais les tentatives allemandes pour conquérir Verdun échouent à nouveau. L’ultime assaut prend appui le 12 juillet sur le secteur de Souville et marque le point le plus avancé de la progression ennemie. Mais c’est encore un revers et le fort de Souville reste aux mains des Français. Les Allemands n’ont jamais approché à moins de 5 KM de Verdun. Aucun des objectifs n’a été atteint. Et le 12 juillet le Kronprinz, Guillaume de Prusse, à la tête de la 5ème armée allemande, reçoit l’ordre de se contenter désormais d’une action défensive.
A compter de cette date, les Allemands ont renoncé à prendre Verdun. Pour autant, les combats ne vont pas cesser. Les Français vont se livrer durant tout l’été à un grignotage des positions ennemies. Le 24 octobre, le fort de Douaumont est reconquis par le Régiment d’Infanterie Coloniale du Maroc, aidé, entre autres, de tirailleurs sénégalais et somaliens. Le fort de Vaux est repris le 3 novembre.
Au 21 décembre, au terme de 300 jours et 300 nuits de combat, la plupart des positions perdues pendant la bataille ont été réinvesties par l’armée française. L’hiver peut s’installer. La bataille de Verdun est gagnée.
