2020 Local America Presidential Forum
Our nation's mayors are up close and on the ground as Americans confront their toughest challenges and seek their highest aspirations. That is why Accelerator for America Action and the United States Conference of Mayors are hosting the Local America Presidential Candidate Forum in Waterloo, Iowa on December 6, 2019.
The forum will focus on an agenda for America’s communities moving forward. In addition to touching on the candidate’s plans related to building community wealth and rebuilding the nation’s infrastructure, the mayors will be asking the candidates for specifics of what they will do to improve the everyday lives of their local constituents.
The forum will be attended by 2020 presidential candidates Senator Cory Booker, Mayor Pete Buttigieg, Mr. Tom Steyer, Secretary Julián Castro, and Senator Amy Klobuchar.

HHS Secretary visits Hy-Vee Innovation Center in Grimes, Iowa for Pledge to America’s Workers Month
On July 17, 2019, Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar along with Advisor to the President Ivanka Trump, traveled to Grimes, Iowa to highlight efforts to expand workforce development opportunities for all Americans during Pledge to America’s Workers Month. Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds and Hy-Vee CEO Randy Edeker hosted a facility tour and a roundtable discussion with Hy-Vee leadership and employees. The tour included Hy-Vee’s HST (Helpful Smiles Technology) Innovation Center. The roundtable highlighted Hy-Vee’s success with recruitment, retention, advanced training, and retraining (upskilling) of today’s workforce, including hiring workers from outside of the existing workforce, and those with disabilities.
Hy-Vee is an employee-owned, Midwestern grocery chain headquartered in West Des Moines, Iowa, and is also a signatory to the Pledge To America’s Workers, an initiative that began one year ago.
Alex M.Azar II was sworn in as the Secretary of Health and Human Services on Jan. 29, 2018. Azar has spent his career working in both the public and private sectors, as an attorney and in senior leadership roles focused on advancing healthcare reform, research and innovation.
