Inlet Square Mall: Dead Mall at the beach - Raw & Real Retail
This is the Inlet Square Mall in Garden City, SC. This video was taken on July 29, 2018. Needless to say, this mall's days are numbered.
Here is a brief history from wikipedia:
Inlet Square Mall is a 434,482 square feet (40,364.7 m2) single-level regional shopping center in Garden City, South Carolina and Murrells Inlet, South Carolina, United States. Its anchor stores include Belk, Bath & Body Works, Planet Fitness, and Books-A-Million, with three vacant anchors last occupied by Kmart, JCPenney, and Stein Mart.
After the opening of a Walmart Supercenter in Garden City, Kmart closed in late April 2014. On January 7, 2015, it was announced that the one of the mall's two main anchor stores, JCPenney, would be closing in March of that year. A Planet Fitness opened in place of the former Ladies Choice fitness center in May 2015. The mall's Stein Mart location closed in September 2015 to relocate it to the South Strand Commons shopping center in Myrtle Beach, which opened in October 2015.
Inlet Square was built in 1980 by CBL Properties. It was the area's largest mall, slightly larger than the now demolished Myrtle Square Mall. It held the title of the Grand Strand's largest mall until 1986, when Myrtle Beach Mall was opened. Even still, Inlet Square proved to be quite profitable. The mall was bought in the early 2000s. It was originally going to be redesigned similarly to the successful Broadway at the Beach. With those plans falling through, a $4.5 million remodeling project began in 2007. This was te first renovation in the mall's history, and had been much needed since the massive 1,300,000 square foot Coastal Grand Mall opened in 2004. The renovations weren't complete until 2011 due to financial hardships and loss of foot traffic. During this time, the mall lost most of its long time tenants, including the 12-screen Regal Cinemas, in 2010. In 2011, Franks Cinebowl and Grill opened a new complex in the former Regal Cinemas, bringing new life to the mall. In 2014, the mall lost Kmart, which opened with the original mall in 1980, and also gained a Planet Fitness location in the former Ladies Choice location. In 2015, the mall was hit with two more tenant losses, with the closures of JC Penney and Stein Mart. This leaves Belk, Planet Fitness, Bath & Body Works, and Books-A-Million as the only anchor tenants left in the mall.
On October 13, 2013, it was reported that the owners of Inlet Square Mall, Murrells Retail Associates was suing Frank Theaters for failing to make lease payments on time on several occasions It was reported that the theater chain owes the mall $201,363 in unpaid rent and is asking a judge to accelerate nearly $24 million worth of payments which is due under a 20-year lease agreement that was signed in 2011. The Frank Theaters and CineBowl that was located in the Inlet Square closed suddenly at midnight on May 14, 2016 suddenly with no notice to the public after being business for five years in business.
F + F Development began reconstruction on the mall in 2012 in an attempt to make it similar to the popular outdoor shopping center Broadway at the Beach. The construction caused F + F Development to go into bankruptcy, and Urban Retail Properties purchased the mall in late 2014.

Mashup VLog: Murrells Inlet, SC
Home of author Mickey Spillane, Murrells Inlet is a highlight of the Grand Strand. I paid many visits there in the summer of 2013 and this is a few portions from one such visit.
Just outside of the madness of Myrtle Beach is Murrells Inlet. During the famed Myrtle Beach Harley-Davidson motorcycle rallies, bikers flood this small fishing community but it remains pretty quite most days, heating up at night as it's renowned waterfront restaurants are always hopping.
Also, there's an island of goats!!! I only saw one during filming but saw a handful shortly after.

Selectones - May 2011 - Conway, SC
The student band from Homewood Elem. rocked the Friday night festival at Frank Theatres in Conway, SC. It was opening night for the movie Thor. Movie goers came early to play games and listen to local bands. The Selectones played for about 45 minutes. Their versatility was grand, genres included Motown, pop, classic rock, and dance punk. Couldn't put them all on here, but here is a sample. Look for a fundraising concert to come soon, ConwayJournal.com will post the date when we get it.

Banning Sweepstakes Machines
The city of Hendersonville wasted no time enforcing a statewide video sweepstakes ban upheld Friday by the Supreme Court of North Carolina. Police delivered notices to all businesses operating with video gaming machines, alerting them they must be shut down or face criminal charges.Machines were being rolled out of Norm's Mini Mart on Spartanburg highway Monday after being shut off by police order. The owner, Michael Gordon believes players will probably move back to playing the state lottery's scratch off games without the machines. Sweepstakes players say it's no different than playing a lottery game and don't see why they're being banned. Some gambling opponents say the state has deceived people into believing an education lottery was less problematic than other forms of gambling. Howard McKinnish says no one talks about the cost to families where there's no food on the table because it's used to feed someone's addiction. The retired pastor says the state is just as guilty as the video sweepstakes operators at playing on people's weaknesses. Some players say they'll miss the video machines because the odds are better than the scratch off lottery games. Teresa Allred says the only reason the state doesn't want them is because they can't make any money off them.By Frank Fraboni Follow Frank on Twitter @Frabonz

Kayak Fishing on Peach Creek in South Walton, Florida
What better way to spend a lazy Sunday afternoon than kayak fishing on the calm waters of one of South Walton's hidden gems.
Peach Creek flows north from the wetlands of Point Washington State Forest, on the north side of Seagrove Beach, Florida. It's just a short distance from the Gulf of Mexico and Scenic Highway 30A.
What begins as a trickle, widens to SoWal's largest freshwater creek, opening up to a beautiful bayou flowing into the Intracoastal Waterway and the Choctawhatchee (Chock-tuh-hatch-ee) Bay.
Many species of fish can be found in Peach Creek with Largemouth Bass and pan fish prevalent up the creek a bit where it is mostly freshwater.
The bayou water varies from fresh, to brackish, to salty and back, depending on rain, tides, and wind. Also common are saltwater species such as Flounder, Trout, and Redfish, along with Bay Shrimp and Blue Crab.
The most remarkable thing about Peach Creek Bayou may be the fact that American Alligators and Bottlenose Dolphins share the same water. Both hunt for fish and other food in the calm estuary.
All types of birds inhabit the bayou, including Kingfisher, Osprey, Great Blue Heron, Pelican, Seagull, Marsh Hen, Woodpecker, and the occasional Bald Eagle.
Peach Creek is easy to visit by using the boat launch at the north end of Scenic 395 in Point Washington, just past Eden State Gardens on Tucker Bayou. You can bring your own boat or xall one of the local rental companies to rent kayaks or standup paddle boards. Guides are available for fishing and paddling tours.
Guided motorboat tours are also available for exploring the nearby Choctawhatchee River delta.

John Samsen - Buddha at the Gas Pump Interview
Discussion of this interview in the Batgap Community Facebook Group:
Also, see
When John Samsen first contacted us several months ago, he said, I'm 90 years old, I've had both my feet amputated, and I've never been happier. We soon learned that John designed the Ford Thunderbird, Plymouth Barracuda, and other muscle cars, and later had a profound and abiding spiritual awakening.
Over a course of many decades, John Samsen followed a quest to understand the “big questions” of Life; why are we here, what is Life all about, and who am I, really? Along with careers in Aerospace Engineering and car designing, John studied the sciences, mythologies, religions, philosophies, and psychologies, to expand his understandings. A pattern of paranormal experiences opened his mind to areas of experience beyond the paradigms of Science. In 1970, he embarked on a quest of Self Discovery, participating in hundreds of hours of intensive consciousness exploration with such noted researchers as Drs. Jean Houston and Robert Masters, Dr. Lawrence LeShan, Robert Monroe, and others involved in the “human potentials” movements of the 1970's.
After a series of traumatic events in his life, John experienced a “metanoia”, what some call a transformation or “awakening”. John's quest ended, and in the years since, he has been enjoying Life, knowing peace of mind, “unconditional love” of self and world, and freedom from fear and anxiety. John has been working on a verbal description of his experiences that does not rely on traditional metaphysical or religious ideas, but is consistent with modern scientific concepts of space, time, matter, and energy. He believes that a dramatic experience of “awakening”, which is rare and very difficult to achieve, is not necessary for enlightened living; that with proper guidance and consistent effort, most people can achieve that state of being.
