Berliner Dom / Berlin Cathedral - 2nd July, 2012 (1080 HD)
Berlin Cathedral (German: Berliner Dom) is the colloquial name for the Evangelical (i.e. Protestant) Oberpfarr- und Domkirche (English analogously: Supreme Parish and Collegiate Church, literally Supreme Parish and Cathedral Church) in Berlin, Germany. It is the parish church of the Evangelical congregation Gemeinde der Oberpfarr- und Domkirche zu Berlin, a member of the umbrella organisation Evangelical Church of Berlin-Brandenburg-Silesian Upper Lusatia. Its present building is located on Museum Island in the Mitte borough.
The Berlin Cathedral has never been a cathedral in the actual sense of that term since it has never been the seat of a bishop. The bishop of the Evangelical Church in Berlin-Brandenburg (under this name 1945--2003) is based in St. Mary's Church, Berlin, and Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church. St. Hedwig's Cathedral serves as seat of Berlin's Roman Catholic metropolitan bishop.
This video features footage both outside and inside the Cathedral. Exterior shots highlight the structures unique architecture and shape, and interior shots highlight the decor, furnishings, artwork, organ, statues, pulpit, pews, paintings, and models of other world Cathedrals.
It is possible to go to the roof of Berliner Dom, and indeed I did do so, but have chosen to upload that footage in a separate video.

Berliner Dom - Berlin
Berliner Dom - The Berliner Dom has been build between 1894 and 1905 and created architect Julius Carl Raschdorff. During World War 2 the building has been damaged. The reconstruction was between 1975 and 1992. The backside is directly located near the Spree (river).
The Berliner Dom is famous because of the big organ. The pipe organ, built by Wilhelm Sauer, was fully restored during reconstruction. It has 113 stops, including three ranks of 32' pipes on the pedal division, played by a 4-manual console.
Location: am Lustgarten, 10178 Berlin. Metro: station Friedrichstrasse.
Berliner Dom ベルリン大聖堂
The Cathedral of Berlin is the largest church in the city, and it serves as a vital center for the Protestant church of Germany. Reaching out well beyond the borders of the parish and of Berlin, the cathedral attracts thousands of visitors, year after year, from Germany and abroad.
The history of the Cathedral on Berlin’s Spree Island began in 1465, when the St. Erasmus Chapel in the newly built royal palace of Cölln on the Spree was elevated to the stature of collegiate church. The German name for the Cathedral, “Dom”, can be traced back to the term “Domkirche”, which was used for such collegiate churches at that time. In 1536, Elector Joachim II moved the “Dom” into the former Dominican church, south of the palace.
With Martin Luther’s support, the elector established the Reformation in 1539, and the “Dom” became a Lutheran church. In 1608, the collegiate church was dissolved, and the Dom was declared the highest parish church in Cölln on the Spree. When Elector Johann Sigismund converted to Calvinism in 1613, the Cathedral became Court and Parish Church.
From 1747 to 1750, Frederick the Great commissioned Johann Boumann the Elder to build a new baroque building to the north of the city palace. After the coffins were transferred from the crypt, the old, dilapidated Cathedral was torn down.
On the occasion of the union of Prussia’s Lutheran and Reformed communities, the interior and exterior of the Cathedral were renovated. The classicistic conversion by Karl Friedrich Schinkel was completed in 1822.

XAVER VARNUS PLAYS BACH'S TOCCATA & FUGUE IN THE BERLINER DOM
Xaver Varnus plays Toccata and Fugue in D minor on the great Sauer Organ of the Berliner Dom. Recorded live on the Opening Night of the Berliner Internationaler Orgelsommer 2013. At the time of its dedication in 1905, the great Sauer Organ of the Berliner Dom was the largest in Germany, with its 7269 pipes and 113 registers, distributed across four manuals and pedals. The court organ builder Wilhelm Sauer, from Frankfurt on the Oder, created an instrument that embodied the newest technical and musical developments of German organ building at the time. In that way, the organ met the high expectations of both the organ builder and his client: in the Protestant Cathedral of the capital city, there was to be a monumental, modern, and in every way extraordinary instrument of the highest quality. The organ of the Cathedral of Berlin represents the highpoint of Sauer’s career. At the same time, it marks the end of the long development of Romantic orchestral organs, whose sound corresponds to the characteristic sound of a symphonic orchestra of that period. Today, the organ in the Cathedral of Berlin is the largest late-Romantic pneumatic action organ in the world that has survived in its original condition.
•●The Official Video Site of Concert Organist Xaver Varnus●•
Born in Budapest, his first piano teacher was Emma Németh, one of the last pupils of Claude Debussy. Xaver Varnus has played virtually every important organ in the world, including those in Bach's Thomaskirche in Leipzig (2014), Berliner Dom (2013), Notre-Dame (1981), Saint-Sulpice (2006) and Saint-Eustache (1996) in Paris, National Shrine in Washington, D.C. (1985), and Canterbury Cathedral (2004), as well as the largest existing instrument in the world, the Wanamaker Organ in Philadelphia (1985). His Quadruple Platinum Disc winning album From Ravel to Vangelis, released by Sony BMG in 2007, is the best-selling organ CD ever. As a Canadian citizen, Xaver Varnus resides in Berlin, Germany. Put simply, Varnus is a monster talent, every bit as stimulating and individual as the late Glenn Gould (The Globe & Mail, Canada's National Newspaper).

Berliner Dom
The Berliner Dom or Berlin Cathedral is officially known as the Supreme Parish and Collegiate Church) and is located on the UNESCO heritage listed Museum Island in Berlin Mitte. The Berliner Dom is the largest church in Berlin and is an important centre for the Protestant Church of Germany. Although known as the Berlin Cathedral, the Berliner Dom has never been a true Cathedral because it has never been the seat of a bishop.
