MTSU to open Chinese Music and Cultural Center
Thanks to a $1 million grant, the latest expansion of Middle Tennessee State University’s relationship with Chinese educators is music to their ears.
Amid the sound of traditional Chinese music and the sipping of three types of tea March 24, MTSU President Sidney A. McPhee announced receipt of the grant for the creation of a Chinese music and cultural center on university property.
The funding is provided by Hanban Confucius Institute in Beijing, an organization sponsored by China’s education ministry that oversees more than 440 institutes in 120 countries.

As I was walking through a park in Hangzhou, China, I heard this beautiful music. I couldn't resist asking this woman to dance with me. She and I couldn't speak each other's language, but our hearts connected through the universal language of dance.

Xian: We're Dancing In The Park
This is one of our favorite clips from our trip of China & Tibet. A lot of tourists from all over China and throughout the world come to Xian. It is often primarily to meet the ancient terra cotta warriors unearthed not so long ago. That's the main reason we're here too. And we will see them before we leave this energized city.
However, this morning, October 17, 2011, after a sumptuous, multicourse Chinese breakfast at the Grand New World Hotel where we are staying, our local guide Jenny offers to will lead us straight over to Xingqing Park. A great idea. If we had any thoughts that a trip to the park will be an unnecessary diversion, and a bad idea given our limited time, we'll soon find out how wrong we were. Xingquing Park is crowded. It's mostly seniors and older people who we see. We quickly see that these regular people proforming an ad hoc show that is truly impressive - particularly to our Western eyes. We will remember seeing and joining in with (some of the dancing anyway) as a very unexpected highlight of our trip. Our group, Americans plus a few Canadians (always it seerms) appear to be the only foreigners present. We leave the park a-buzz, talking about how great it would be to have something like what we've seen at home. The only thing that we would not consider replicating are the goings on in the amphitheater. There old timers enthusiastically belt out Communist Party Revolutionary era songs from the 50's and 60s. Not that we wouldn't like nostalgic songs on the menu in our park, but early rock and roll would probably be more popular.

Descarrilamiento de tren al suroeste de Rusia deja más de 70 heridos
Un tren de pasajeros se descarriló el domingo 7 de julio en Krasnodar al suroeste de Rusia, dejando al menos 76 personas heridas. Los cinco primeros vagones del tren Novosibirsk-Adler se descarrilaron alrededor de las 17:00 horas, tiempo de Moscú. Ministerio de salud árabe reporta dos muertes más por virus MERS
Arabia Saudita informó el domingo 7 de julio, que dos personas más han muerto a causa de un nuevo virus respiratorio relacionado con el SARS, con lo que el número total de muertes en el reino ascendió a 38. El ministerio dijo que otras tres personas habían sido confirmadas como infectadas con el síndrome respiratorio de Medio Oriente (MERS), con lo que el número total de casos confirmados en el interior del reino llegó a 65 desde que fue identificado hace un año. A partir del pasado sábado 6 de julio iniciaron las fiestas de 'San Fermín' que son consideradas de las más grandes del mundo. San Fermín celebra al primer obispo de Pamplona, quien murió decapitado, un hecho recordado por los juerguistas quienes usan un pañuelo rojo alrededor de su cuello. Uno de los eventos más famosos de San Fermín es la famosa 'pamplonada' o carrera de toros, al que asisten miles de personas, que corren junto a seis toros de lidia que viajan desde sus corrales hasta la plaza de toros de la ciudad. La fiesta también incluye bailes, desfiles religiosos, y eventos deportivos tradicionales vascos.
