Ebeltoft
Ebeltoft is an old port town on the central east coast of Denmark with a population of 7,468 (1 January 2014). It is located in Syddjurs municipality in Region Midtjylland on the larger Djursland peninsula of Jutland.

Ebeltoft is known for its old town center with cobble-stoned streets and centuries-old half-timbered houses. Plans for the conservation of this peculiar environment, was initiated in the 1960s by the city council and the National Museum of Denmark. Apart from this overall old-village charm, Ebeltoft holds several other notable institutions such as Glasmuseet Ebeltoft, one of the world's first glass museums, Fregatten Jylland, the longeattractionsEip in the world and the European Film College, offering short and long courses in film making, especially for young people.
Tourism
Ebeltoft and the surrounding countryside is one of the tourist centres of Denmark, with many summer houses and rentals, a marina, a golf course and many child-friendly beaches. In spite of its relatively small size, Ebeltoft is quite lively, especially in the summer season. The population soars in June, July, and August - but all year round, there are many more people staying here than the official number of inhabitants suggests. This is due to the Danish phenomenon of 'summer houses' (holiday homes): most are made of wood but often quite luxurious, and there are several thousand in this area. The tourism, the old traditions of trade in this harbour town, and the international schools in the area probably explain why most people in this small town are open-minded and friendly towards foreigners. The town is, generally speaking, also well-to-do. Quite a few people work in the city of Aarhus, which is only 50 km away by road and so within commuting distance. The Aarhus Airport is just 15 km by road to the north.
Ebeltoft itself offers fewer and fewer opportunities for employment. Several large companies that used to employ unskilled labour are now closed; traditional trades, such as fishing and farming are diminishing rapidly; and the ferry line, Mols-linien, has moved quite a few of its employees to the ferry port of Aarhus. However, the town is popular with artisans, such as glass workers, potters, painters, and jewellery designers. The Glasmuseet Ebeltoft, which shows contemporary glass art from all over the world, was established in 1985 by Ebeltoft glass artists Finn Lynggaard and his wife, Tchai Munch. The many general stores and supermarkets - as well as hotels, restaurants, and bars - offer opportunities to make a living here.
Surroundings
Around Ebeltoft lie few small towns such as Fuglsø and Knebel on the Mols Peninsula. Just south of the town is the holiday resort of Øer. In 2009 the large Mols Bjerge National Park was inaugurated and it includes the town of Ebeltoft.

City Guide Ebeltoft: Village Charm | Visit Djursland Denmark
During the summer we visited beautiful Djursland and the iconic city Ebeltoft. We explored one of the longest wooden warships in the world: Fregatten Jylland. We saw the old townhall where over 300 weddings are held every year, had Danish candy made the old-fashion-way, rode a train, and just wondered around in the iconic city with the cobblestones, and colored houses. Fregatten Jylland - bagom skibet/ På Opdagelse Djursland/ Sommer 2013
Ukendt for mange lå Fregatten Jylland i København i 30'erne og 40'erne, og var overnatningsskib for 200.000 feriebørn fra provinsen. Det sank en kold decembernat i 1947 - uden feriebørn. Skibet kom til Ebeltoft i 1960, blev forsynet med eternittag, og så sølle ud. En 110 millioner kroners restaurering fra Mærsk Mcinney Møllers fond var afsluttet i 1994, hvorefter der igen er et præsentabelt skib til skue i Ebeltoft.
Ferieoplevelser i Ebeltoft
Den gamle købstad Ebeltoft ligger ud til Ebeltoft Vig med udsigt til Nationalparken Mols bjerge omgivet af Djurslands smukke landskab. Naturen og mange seværdigheder i området gør Ebeltoft til et dejligt sted at holde sommerhusferie. (
Fregatten Jylland på havnen i Ebeltoft giver jer et unikt indblik i dansk maritim historie. Fregatten blev søsat i 1860, og gjorde tjeneste som krigsskib i slaget ved Helgoland i 1864. Sidenhen blev det kongeskib og derefter blev det brugt som flydende hotel, når elever på skoleudflugt til København skulle overnatte. Det flotte, gamle skib er blevet restaureret, og det er en oplevelse for både børn og voksne at besøge Fregatten Jylland, hvor I bl.a. kan prøve at være pirater på skattejagt og deltage i slaget i 1864.
Besøg de vilde dyr fra alle verdensdele i Ree Park. I safariparken kommer I helt tæt på dyrene via gangbroer, der går over de store indhegninger, hvor dyrene lever. På Abeøerne løber lemurer og gibbonaber frit rundt bland safariparkens gæster, og der er også mulighed for at klappe nogle af dyrene, fx vil flere af de fredelige sydamerikanske dyr, så som maraer, vicunjaer og de super bløde alpakaer, gerne have besøg.
Når I holder ferie i sommerhus ved Ebeltoft, bor I midt i Nationalpark Mols Bjerge. Den enestående natur i Nationalparken giver jer mulighed for at få unikke naturoplevelser i ferien. I kan opleve Nationalparken Mols Bjerge på gåture eller cykelture – og det er endda muligt at leje heste og opleve området fra hesteryg. Besøg fx Trehøje, hvor I har en storslået udsigt over hedeområder, Ebeltoft Vig og Århus bugt. På jeres tur rundt i Mols Bjerge kan I støde på græssende Galloway køer og vilde heste af racen Exmoor.
Ebeltoft er en gammel købstad med en velbevaret bykerne, hvor I kan gå en tur i de smalle, brostensbelagte gader, se de charmerende gamle huse og shoppe i byens butikker. Læg turen forbi en af Ebeltofts populære attraktioner, det gamle rådhus fra 1789, og oplev en tidslomme med det originale interiør.
Glasmuseet i Ebeltoft er et moderne museum for international glaskunst med skiftende udstillinger med unika glaskunst. Gå på opdagelse mellem fascinerende glaskunst i forskellige former og farver, nyd Glashavens blomsterpragt og tag et kig ind i det arbejdende værksted, hvor glaskunstnere skaber deres værker.
Syd for Mols Bjerge ligger den lille halvø Helgenæs med sit bakkede landskab, små hyggelige byer og kulturhistoriske minder. På sydspidsen af Helgenæs ligger Sletterhage Fyr, som er åbent for publikum om sommeren og et yndet udflugtsmål pga. den smukke beliggenhed. (
Når I holder ferie i sommerhus ved Ebeltoft kan I også besøge Skandinavisk Dyrepark, og hilse på ulvene, bjørnene og de andre dyr. I Kattegatcenteret kan I se alverdens fisk og havdyr, fx de frygtindgydende hajer. I forlystelsesparken Djurs Sommerland er der sjov, spænding og masser af underholdning for hele familien. Randers Regnskov tager jer med gennem junglen i forskellige verdensdele, hvor I kan gå på opdagelse mellem eksotiske planter og spændende dyr. Århus ligger kun ca. 50 km fra Ebeltoft, og her kan I besøge Den Gamle By, kunstmuseet Aros og Moesgård Museum eller shoppe på den hyggelige gågade og spise en frokost på et af byens mange spisesteder.

Fregatten Jylland - Banjerdækket
TV3 Østjylland har besøgt Fregatten Jylland i Ebeltoft hvor Banjerdækket er vede at blive ført tilbage til det oprindelige udseende. Arbejdet startede i foråret 2007 og den officielle indvielse finder sted i 2009. Direktør Benno Blæsild fortæller om status for restaureringen.

The Frigate (Fregatten) Jylland. Worlds longest wooden ship
The Frigate Jylland (which means The Frigate Jutland in Danish) is the Worlds longest wooden ship and the only example left in the World of a screw-propelled steam frigate. She is preserved at Ebeltoft in Eastern Jutland and is a veteran of a naval battle fought between Denmark and Austria/Prussia in 1864 (Battle of Heligoland, 9 May 1864)
