What to do in Freiburg Germany - 24 hours in Freiburg Vlog
We decided to take a trip to Freiburg Germany. We jumped in the car and started driving from our home in Italy. With many stops, the trip took us an entire day.
Being frugal in nature, we decided that taking the car would be the best route as Freiburg was not our only destination at that time. We drove through Northern Italy and into Switzerland.
On one of our stops along the highway in Switzerland, we saw some cows eating and even with my yodeling and cow imitations I could not get their attention. From that stop, we stopped for lunch in Bellazona, Switzerland. That area is interesting because of its Italian influence.
Many stops later we made it to our IBIS Budget Hotel room in Freiburg. The room was what I expected, small and clean. The toilet was off in its own little room, the open shower and sink area were directly next to the bed. The bed itself was big enough and had a bunk bed going over the top of it so our son could sleep up there and the three of us had enough room. My son slept really well, while my husband and I had a very hard time with the mattress that was on our bed. I got up once in the night to use the bathroom and accidentally woke my husband who then could not get back to sleep. He was up for the rest of the night wandering around the hotel, drinking tea and hot chocolate from the machine near the lobby area while waiting for my son and I to wake up.
Finally around five in the morning he came in and woke me up and the two of us had coffee out on the patio in front of our hotel while making some sort of plan of what to see in Freiburg on a budget.
We came up with the center of the town, some parks and then decided that we would just wing it and see what we could see. Before we left the hotel, the three of us ate our breakfast there. It was, pretty much, the highlight of the hotel. They had a large assortment of fresh German rolls, lots of meats and cheeses, fruits of all kinds, marmalade, butter and chocolate spreads, cereals, an assortment of jogurts, hot eggs and many types of juices, milk and endless coffee. The Seepark (lake park) was our first stop. It is near the center and in the middle of a nice residential area is really something to look at.
There were many residents in the area walking, running or just enjoying their morning there in the park. It was nice to see how they interacted with one another, stopping to chat with one another and in general just how happy they were to be in that place.
Directly behind the lake is a very big and very beautiful Japanese Garden which is also free to explore. Everything there is in perfect shape and people respect the work that has been done and do their best to keep things in both areas very nice.
We left there and went to the center of town where we found the daily market which offers everything a person could want or need. We stopped off to light some candles at the historic cathedral which is really something to behold and it is really a miracle that it survived the bombings of WWII in 1944.
We had lunch later, did some more walking and drove on to our next destination....come back next week to see more!

Long weekend in Freiburg im Breisgau and Heitersheim Black Forest, Germany June 2019
This time I took a high speed German ICE from Utrecht, Netherlands to go to Freiburg instead of driving. It is a relaxing journey and takes less time then driving. The city itself is more like a town but has a very pretty city center and cathedral. I went to the zoo as well which is free and more like a farm with some animals. The best part is to hike to Aussichtsturm Schlossberg, a steel structure to have a birds eye view of the town. The hotel I stayed is a family owned hotel with spa and pool named Land Hotel Krone in Heitersheim. This place is full of berries, pears and apples.

Freiburg im Breisgau (German: [ˈfʁaɪbʊʁk ʔɪm ˈbʁaɪsɡaʊ] (About this soundlisten); Alemannic German: Friburg im Brisgau [ˈfʁiːb̥əɡ̊]) is a city in Baden-Württemberg, Germany, with a population of about 220,000. In the south-west of the country, it straddles the Dreisam river, at the foot of the Schlossberg. Historically, the city has acted as the hub of the Breisgau region on the western edge of the Black Forest in the Upper Rhine Plain. A famous old German university town, and archiepiscopal seat, Freiburg was incorporated in the early twelfth century and developed into a major commercial, intellectual, and ecclesiastical center of the upper Rhine region. The city is known for its medieval minster and Renaissance university, as well as for its high standard of living and advanced environmental practices. The city is situated in the heart of the major Baden wine-growing region and serves as the primary tourist entry point to the scenic beauty of the Black Forest. According to meteorological statistics, the city is the sunniest and warmest in Germany, and held the all-time German temperature record of 40.2 °C (104.4 °F) from 2003 to 2015.[3][4]

1120 – Founded by Duke Bertold III of Zähringen
1218 – Inherited by the Counts of Urach
1368 – Purchased its independence
1805 – Became part of Baden
1940–1944 – Heavily damaged during WWII
Freiburg was founded by Konrad and Duke Berthold III of Zähringen in 1120 as a free market town;[5] hence its name, which translates to free (or independent) town. Frei means free, and Burg, like the modern English word borough, was used in those days for an incorporated city or town, usually one with some degree of autonomy.[6] The German word Burg also means a fortified town, as in Hamburg. Thus, it is likely that the name of this place means a fortified town of free citizens.
This town was strategically located at a junction of trade routes between the Mediterranean Sea and the North Sea regions, and the Rhine and Danube rivers. In 1200, Freiburg's population numbered approximately 6,000 people. At about that time, under the rule of Bertold V, the last duke of Zähringen, the city began construction of its Freiburg Münster cathedral on the site of an older parish church.[5] Begun in the Romanesque style, it was continued and completed 1513 for the most part as a Gothic edifice. In 1218, when Bertold V died, then Egino V von Urach, the count of Urach assumed the title of Freiburg's count as Egino I von Freiburg.[5] The city council did not trust the new nobles and wrote down its established rights in a document. At the end of the thirteenth century there was a feud between the citizens of Freiburg and their lord, Count Egino II of Freiburg. Egino II raised taxes and sought to limit the citizens' freedom, after which the Freiburgers used catapults to destroy the count's castle atop the Schloßberg, a hill that overlooks the city center. The furious count called on his brother-in-law the Bishop of Strasbourg, Konradius von Lichtenberg, for help. The bishop responded by marching with his army to Freiburg.
Freiburg City Hall (Rathaus)
According to an old Freiburg legend, a butcher named Hauri stabbed the Bishop of Strasbourg to death on 29 July 1299. It was a Pyrrhic victory, since henceforth the citizens of Freiburg had to pay an annual expiation of 300 marks in silver to the count of Freiburg until 1368. In 1366 the counts of Freiburg made another failed attempt to occupy the city during a night raid. Eventually the citizens were fed up with their lords, and in 1368 Freiburg purchased its independence from them. The city turned itself over to the protection of the Habsburgs, who allowed the city to retain a large measure of freedom. Most of the nobles of the city died in the battle of Sempach (1386). The patrician family Schnewlin took control of the city until the guildsmen revolted. The guilds became more powerful than the patricians by 1389.

Mein historisches Augsburg I - Stadttore und Alte Stadtmauer
#augsburg
Künstlerisches Dokumentar Video über meine Heimatstadt Augsburg, UNESCO Weltkulturerbe 2019!
Gefilmt in Full HD 1080p.
