Fujinomiya has developed around the Sengen Grand Shrine. The shrine is the headquarters of the Sengen shrines around Japan worshipping Mt. Fuji as the deity named Princess of Blossoms (Konohana-sakuya-hime). On the shrine’s ground 500 cherry trees are dedicated to her. She is the symbol of beauty and piety thus the guardian of happy home and easy childbirth. Because the town is well-watered thanks to runoff from Mt. Fuji, people come here to pray also for water, safety while traveling, fishing and good harvest, and against fires. The current pavilions were built under the patronage of Tokugawa Ieyasu, the father of the Edo shogunate government, in 1604. Ieyasu’s donation enabled the Sengen Grand Shrine to manage the summit area of Mt. Fuji above the 8th station as part of its precincts.
Wakutama-ike, which literally means Pond of Rising Bubbles, is one of the notable structures in the main precincts of the Sengen Grand Shrine. It is a spring of the rainwater and the melted snow of Mt. Fuji that travel through the aquifer made of layers of volcanic rock before bubbling up from the ground. Hence the pond is the end of the ancient lava flow. This large quantity of water flows into Kanda River running through Fujinomiya City. The pond is designated as a special natural monument (tokubetsu tennen kinen-butsu).

Sing For Japan! - (from Fujinomiya) - Shine On! Songs project
----------
Message from Mark McTamney
owner of English Bug
----------
We are a small English School in Fujinomiya City, near Mt Fuji. While we were a long way away from the epicenter of the Tohoku earthquake, we certainly felt it and experienced the uncertainty that followed in the following days/weeks and months. We want to show people that although it was an extremely difficult time for all of Japan, we have come through it and we can still manage a smile or two.
Thanks to the Tyler Foundation for providing this platform for us and we hope other schools and groups from around the world will join in submitting their videos. Shine on!!
----------
SING FOR JAPAN!
----------
As Japan remembers the earthquake and tsunami that devastated the Tohoku region on March 11, it is important to remind Japan that we haven't forgotten.
The Tyler Foundation mobilized its resources and launched the Shine On! Tohoku Children's Support Program. To date, close to 9,000 children have received psychosocial support.
And in collaboration with the Sakari Elementary School in the Ofunato region, we recorded the song Who I Want to Be a bold and hopeful song of promise.
Originally sung by Rie Fu, we invited the global community to sing this song for Japan. We are asked groups of all ages to submit their videos to be posted on our websites for all of Japan to see and to be reminded that we have not forgotten.

Shiraito Falls Japan - Liana Miura
Video taken: January 12, 2019
Hello to all my fellow Japinays out there like me!! (Filipinos who are living in Japan)
The Shiraito Falls (白糸の滝, Shiraito no Taki) are located in the southwestern foothills of Mount Fuji. Ranked among the most beautiful waterfalls in Japan, the 150 meter wide cascade is fed by the volcano's spring water and flows off the edge of a 20 meter high cliff in thin white streams that resemble hanging threads of silk - hence its name. The base of the waterfall is easily accessible from the road via a walking trail in just a few minutes.
Several souvenir shops line the trail that leads down to the falls. Along the way, there are nice views of Otodome Falls, another thundering, 25 meter high column of water. The area is at its best in summer when the waterfalls are flush with the winter snow melt from Mount Fuji and the green foliage is at its fullest, and during the autumn season (usually from mid to late November) when the leaves change.
Access
The buses between Shin-Fuji Station, Fujinomiya Station and the Fuji Five Lakes stop at the Shiraito Falls along the way. The one way trip from Kawaguchiko Station takes about 80 minutes and costs 1730 yen, and from Shin-Fuji Station it take about one hour and cost 1060 yen. However, there are only 3-4 buses per day.
More connections are provided by local buses that operate once or twice per hour between Fujinomiya Station and the Shiraito Falls (30 minutes, 620 yen one way).
In addition, JR Kanto Bus and Fujikyu Bus operate one highway bus per day that travels all the way from Tokyo Station (Yaesu South Exit) to the falls in about three hours and for 2880 yen one way.

Suicide Forest in Japan (Full Documentary)
The Aokigahara Forest is the most popular site for suicides in Japan. After the novel Kuroi Jukai was published, in which a young lover commits suicide in the forest, people started taking their own lives there at a rate of 50 to 100 deaths a year.
The site holds so many bodies that the Yakuza pays homeless people to sneak into the forest and rob the corpses. The authorities sweep for bodies only on an annual basis, as the forest sits at the base of Mt. Fuji and is too dense to patrol more frequently.
