Fukushima, Japan - Fukushima Station (2019)
Fukushima Station (福島駅 Fukushima-eki) is a railway station in the city of Fukushima, Fukushima Prefecture, Japan. The station is the terminus for the JR East Yamagata Shinkansen, and Ōu Main Line, as well as the third-sector Abukuma Express Line and privately operated Fukushima Kotsu Iizaka Line.
The station is separated into an east and a west section. Within the area after entering the ticket gates, the opposite sections of the station are accessible via a pedestrian tunnel that runs over the tracks. Outside of the ticketed area, pedestrians must use an underground tunnel to access the opposite section. Cyclists and other vehicles must utilize the bridges to either the north or south of the station.
All lines, except for the Abukuma Express Line and the Iizaka Line, are accessible through the main entrance of the East or West sections of the station. The Abukuma Express Line and the Iizaka Line have a separate entrance on the Northeast side of the station.
The JR portion of the station uses one side platform, one island platform and one bay platform (with two bays) to serve a total of six tracks for regular trains, and two elevated island platforms for Shinkansen operations. The station has a Midori no Madoguchi staffed ticket office. The Abukuma Express Line and the Fukushima Kōtsū Iizaka Line share a single island platform.

Fukushima Train Station （福島駅） is the main train station servicing the Fukushima city in Fukushima prefecture in Japan. Fukushima prefecture is located in Tohoku Region.
Since the March 2011 great Japan earthquake, Fukushima has become known world wide for it's stricken Nuclear Power plant and the grief it caused to the eastern Japan. I was in Fukushima city in July of 2011 and everywhere you go, things are quiet and seem to be in slow motion for obvious reasons. Inside the train station not all the lights were turned on because, they were saving electricity.
Things have gotten much better since then, not only for Fukushima and the surrounding areas but also for most of the Eastern Japan hit by the earthquake and Tsunami.

Video footage recorded during my trip all over Japan between December 27th 2013 and January 10th 2014.
This clip includes images of the Tokyo - Fukushima - Kaminoyama Onsen - Yamagata - Tendo - Uzen Chitose - Sendai journey, with train changes at some stations. It's winter and the Tohoku region shows lots of snow everywhere. Moreover, it's a bank holiday today and everything seems peaceful... just as the lovely Akita Inu dog on the video!
By the way, note the lovely, clear views of the mount Fuji at the begining of the clip (while leaving Tokyo)!
Please note that these videos do not intend to show the tourist attractions at the cities I stop at, but the journey itself (particularly the train routes). For castles, monuments or colourful streets I preferred taking photographs... Sorry for that!

Trekking in Mount Bandai | Fukushima Prefecture | Japan
Direct access from Tokyo Station to Urabandai Lake Resort hotel in Kitashiobara village. It takes about 5 hours by bus but you can also take the train to Koriyama and and then rent a car.
The 5 blue ponds are quite a sight!
