Reeling in the reds in the beautiful waterways of South Louisiana
Bozenhardt having a great time with Rojas Charters!
Rojas Charters offers the finest shallow water fishing in the country just 35 minutes south of New Orleans. Coming from a family of commercial shrimp and crab fisherman, I was born and raised in the Barataria/Lafitte area and have fished and hunted these marshes my entire life. We catch redfish, speckled trout, flounder, black drum, sheepshead, and bass. During your trip you may see wildlife such as pelicans, ducks, bald eagles, blue and white herons, nutria, raccoons, otters and alligators! Come down to the bayou where everyone is treated like family and the fishing is as good as the food we eat!

Road Trip #058 - Lake Pontchartrain Causeway - North
A drive across the Lake Pontchartrain Causeway, northbound.
The Lake Pontchartrain Causeway, sometimes only The Causeway, is a fixed link composed of two parallel bridges crossing Lake Pontchartrain in southern Louisiana, United States. The longer of the two bridges is 23.83 miles (38.35 km) long. The southern terminus of the causeway is in Metairie, Louisiana, a suburb of New Orleans. The northern terminus is at Mandeville, Louisiana.
Since 1969, it was listed by Guinness World Records as the longest bridge over water in the world; in 2011, in response to the opening of the longer Jiaozhou Bay Bridge in China, Guinness World Records created two categories for bridges over water: continuous and aggregate lengths over water. Lake Pontchartrain Causeway then became the longest bridge over water (continuous while Jiaozhou Bay Bridge the longest bridge over water (aggregate).
The bridges are supported by 9,500 concrete pilings. The two bridges feature a bascule, which spans the navigation channel 8 miles (13 km) south of the north shore.

New Orleans to launch new paddlewheel riverboat
(2 Jan 2019) FOR CLEAN VERSION SEE STORY NUMBER: apus109679
ONE OF THE BEST WAYS TO EXPERIENCE OLD NEW ORLEANS AND THE MIGHTY MISSISSIPPI – A JAZZ CRUISE ABOARD AN OLD-FASHIONED PADDLEWHEEL RIVERBOAT.
AND LAUNCHING THIS MONTH – THE FIRST NEW RIVERBOAT TO SURFACE SINCE HURRICANE KATRINA COLLAPSED THE CITY'S TOURISM INDUSTRY MORE THAN A DECADE AGO.
THE NEW ORLEANS STEAMBOAT COMPANY MANAGED TO KEEP AFLOAT THE NATCHEZ – ONE OF THE NATION'S LAST COMMERCIALLY-OPERATED PADDLEWHEEL STEAMBOATS.
SOUNDBITE (English) Matthew Dow, Project Manager, New Orleans Steamboat Company:
At one point in time, there were thousands going up and down the rivers and the lakes of this wonderful country here. So, you know there's only six, and we've got one of them, so we love showcasing that engine room.
THE NEW VESSEL – CALLED THE CITY OF NEW ORLEANS – WON'T BE STEAM-POWERED BUT WILL OFFER AN AUTHENTIC PADDLEWHEEL EXPERIENCE.
SOUNDBITE (English) Matthew Dow, Project Manager, New Orleans Steamboat Company:
At the back of the second deck, there's a little walk-around where people can go out, and they can look down on the paddlewheel, and they can see it working.
TOURS WILL INCLUDE NARRATION ABOUT THE HISTORY OF THE CITY AND SIGHTS ALONG THE SHORELINE.
SOUNDBITE (ENGLISH) Cyndi Grunenberg, Houston, Texas resident:
It was a great trip, a little bit of history along the river and just a fun ride.
OFFICIALS SAY THEY DON'T EXPECT A SHORTAGE OF PASSENGERS. THE NUMBER OF VISITORS TO NEW ORLEANS HAS SURPASSED PRE-KATRINA LEVELS IN RECENT YEARS, AND THE RIVERBOATS ARE A BIG DRAW.
SOUNDBITE (English) Stephen Perry, New Orleans & Company:
People don't come here only for food and music. What they like is other experiences. They love to do things like go on swamp tours. They love to go on the paddlewheelers. People stand in lines to go see them because that experience on a paddlewheeler is just one of the great added attractions of imagining yourself in a time gone by.
THE NEW VESSEL – ORIGINALLY A CASINO BOAT BUILT IN 1991 – ALREADY LOOKED THE PART OF A NEW ORLEANS RIVERBOAT. BUT THE INTERIOR HAD TO BE GUTTED TO MAKE WAY FOR A COMMERCIAL GALLEY, SEATING FOR HUNDREDS OF BRUNCH AND DINNER GUESTS, LIVE BANDS AND DANCING.
THE BOAT IS EXPECTED TO BE READY FOR TOURS BY JANUARY TWENTY-FIRST.
AND IN ANOTHER YEAR, OVERNIGHT RIVER CRUISES MAY BE BACK IN NEW ORLEANS WITH THE RETURN OF THE DELTA QUEEN, THE NATION'S LAST AUTHENTIC OVERNIGHT STEAMBOAT.
AFTER REPAIRS, IT'S EXPECTED TO RETURN TO SERVICE IN 2020.

DC to New Orleans Flight GoPro Timelapse
Today I flew from Washington, DC to New Orleans for work and I decided to bring my GoPro HERO4 along to have a little fun. I used the suction cup mount to stick the GoPro to the window and shot a time-lapse of the entire flight.
I set the GoPro to shoot one frame every second because I wanted to avoid the jittery motion you get with longer intervals. I ended up shooting 10,876 frames to the 64GB card on the 3 hour flight. The resulting video was 7 minutes long. I edited the video down because the majority of the flight was clear skies and flat clouds. Not very visually interesting.
I used a Wasabi Power battery in the HERO4 and used a GoPro Battery BacPac as well to make sure the camera could last 3 hours. When I stopped recording, both the internal battery and bacpac were just about dead and the camera was minutes from dying.
Overall, I am very pleased with the results I got on this test. Next time you fly, bring your GoPro along and shoot a sweet time-lapse of your own! Just make sure you explain to the person sitting next to you what you are doing. Sticking a suction cup to the window with a blinking red light on it can make people nervous.

Tangipahoa River Property
Wild Magnolia, on the scenic Tangipahoa River was featured on the cover of LOUISIANA HOME AND GARDEN magazine. The first floor is 28'X35 which includes the glass great room, kitchen, pantry, and powder room. Beyond the glass wall is a 28x8' gallery with wide steps leading to the large deck. Watching mother nature at work through the 3 story glass front home is awesome entertainment through out the year. Lightening bugs put on a magical, sparkling display at night in the spring time, They are often accompanied by audacious hooting of the resident owls. Prime time indeed!. Trees bud new green right before your eyes. The snow bell trees blossom with tiny
white hanging ornaments that you can almost hear the ringing of. The warm air is heavenly fragrant. Then the lush, almost tropical summers bring the chanterelle mushrooms, a gourmets delight, popping up all over the forest floor. Warm waters run shallow and slowly in the summertime. River conditions create a more colorful fall then elsewhere in the area. When the various Cyprus trees begin to rust then turn into gold the view is most spectacular. Winter time quietly exposes the forest. The tree branches reveal the grace and beauty of their dark lines against the gray sky. When interior lights are demmed, the wild and natural exterior once again becomes the focal point. The fishing is great. This area of the river is very private, secluded and peaceful.
The Ponchatoula farmers are near by with fresh strawberries, corn, onions and peppers in season. Please note: Sometimes during an exceptionally hard rain Fletcher Isle Rd. will flood.
Leah Chase: The Queen of Creole Cuisine
This program is the story of how humble beginnings inspired a young girl from Madisonville, La. to become one of the top multi-award-winning chef's in the nation. Along the way, at her Dooky Chase restaurant, she managed to cook for presidents & entertainment personalities, and helped shape the political and civil rights movement in New Orleans.
Narrated by journalist Michelle Miller, Leah Chase-The Queen of Creole Cuisine chronicles the humble beginnings of a young girl from Madisonville, Louisiana and how she became one of the top, multi-award-winning chefs in the nation. For more than 70 years, Edgar Dooky Chase, Jr. and Leah Chase worked tirelessly together to uplift their family and their community through their faith and their active involvement in social justice. The couple turned a family sandwich shop in Treme to a famous, fine dining restaurant called Dooky Chase, filled with an impressive collection of Leah's African American art by renowned artists like Jacob Lawrence and Elizabeth Catlett. Weaving together archival photos and interviews with notable New Orleanians - including chef John Folse, the late restaurateur Ella Brennan (Commander's Palace), former First Lady of New Orleans Sybil Morial, Freedom rider Rudy Lombard, and Mayor Mitch Landrieu - the film is a tribute to Leah Chase that celebrates her faith, family and food.
