Star Trek: Trekfest Parade 2015 Riverside, Iowa
I finally got to go to Trekfest this year in Riverside, Iowa, birthplace of Captain James T. Kirk. This is a highlight video from the parade that took place on June 27, 2015.
Trek Fest 2018 - Captain Kirk Statue Unveiling

Family pilgrimage to Iowa's Star Trek town of Riverside
Pete and Terri Guinto and their 15-year-old son, Dan, were in Riverside, Ia., on Wednesday, March 30, 2011, to visit the future birthplace of Star Trek hero James T. Kirk. This was the first foray into Iowa for the Guintos, who live in Independence, Ohio. Meanwhile, the future of the annual Trek Fest each June in Riverside has been in doubt due to lack of funds.
William Shatner talks Invasion Iowa docu-series
A fan at Big Apple Comic Con 2019 asked William Shatner about Riverside, Iowa, where Captain Kirk originates from in the original Star Trek series. This led Shatner to reminisce about his time working on the Invasion Iowa docu-series, where he and a film crew invaded this town to film a fictional sci-fi movie while the town had no idea they were the ones actually being filmed.

Riverside residents at Star Trek movie premiere
An estimated 300 Riverside, Iowa residents gathered at the Marcus Sycamore Cinema 12 in Iowa City Wednesday night, May 6, 2009, for a sneak peek at the new Star Trek movie. This latest chapter in the Star Trek franchise is actually its earliest chapter, explaining how wayward Iowa farm boy James T. Kirk, born March 22, 2228, met up with Spock, Scotty, Bones and the rest of the USS Enterprise crew. Video by Cliff Jette.
Where in Iowa is Jeff?
Finally, after 5,000 miles on the road and 157 dance clips, the video of my tour of Iowa is complete. Filmed between May and November of 2007, it is my spoof of Matt Harding of wherethehellismatt.com. This video was shot entirely on my Canon PowerShot A540 and started as a goofy way to highlight the places I finally took the opportunity to see in my home state, places I have wanted to see since I was a kid. Trust me, there's a lot to see in the Hawkeye State besides corn and pigs and beans and cows and tractors and barns and silos. Don't believe it? Watch the video. Better yet, visit Iowa and see for yourself.

Yes, that really is Matt Harding dancing with me in the Inspiration by... clip. This summer, I was fortunate enough to dance with Matt with a group in Chicago for Matt's next around-the-world video. It's due out in June 2008. In the meantime:
Lastly, my apologies to Iowa City, Pella, Davenport, Marion, Waterloo, Mason City, Fairfield, Brooklyn, Forest City, Van Wert, and the other hundreds of cities, towns, parks, golf courses, and cool places that I did not have time to visit or shot crappy clips that didn't make the final cut. There is WAY too much in Iowa to see in one summer, but I made a good run at it.
Iowans, get away from your TV's and computers and go see your state!!! You really don't know what you're missing.
Invasion Iowa: Kick Their Asses
Scotland Thompson was in Riverside, IA in 2004 when William Shatner came to shoot Invasion Iowa. Little did Scott know, as well as the state of Iowa, that Shatner wasn't filming a movie at all and was instead pranking the community with a reality show.
Upon hearing this news, Scotland turned his documentary into a mockumentary of the events that occurred.

Shive-Hattery: Westercamp - An Iowa Abandoned Mine Land Reclamation Project
Westercamp is an 80-acre site located just outside the city limits of Oskaloosa, Iowa. It was surface mined during the 1960s and had also been underground mined many years earlier. The aftermath was environmentally devastating:
• 55 acres of eroding and clogged stream land
• 0.70 miles of clogged stream
• 13 acidic polluted pit ponds
• 26,000 feet of dangerous highwalls
• 10 acres of industrial/residential waste
The Reclamation of Westercamp
Westercamp was successfully reclaimed and began the process of restoring the land back to its environmentally stable state by:
• Treating and filling acidic pit ponds
• Clearing dumpsites
• Leveling of mine spoil piles
• Clearing trees
• Creating wetlands and two primary ponds
• Filling and sealing sinkholes
• Filtering and removing polluted water sources
• Planning construction to protect the endangered Indian Bats and their habitat trees
Awards
• 2011 US Department of Interior—Office of Surface Mining award for Best Coal Mine Reclamation Project in the Mid-Continent Region
• 2012 Honor Award for Engineering Excellence from the American Council of Engineering Companies.

MIDWEST AMERICAN GOTHIC | American Gothic House Tour! Roadtrip to Iowa, Illinois and Nashville
This is part two of our journey through the Midwest, and we started off this vlog with a visit to Eldon, Iowa. Eldon is the home of the American Gothic house, where you can view the actual house where artist Grant Wood used for his American Gothic painting. The American Gothic House Tour only includes a visit to the visitor's center, and the highly seek picture opportunity.
We dressed up for the occasion, too! Unfortunately since it is a private residence, nobody is allowed to be inside the American Gothic House.
We finally reached Ames, Iowa for Halef's fraternity National Convention, where he was invited to become one of the speakers at the Grand Banquet. Ames, Iowa is the home of Iowa State University.
