It was a scorching summer in California, 1947. LAPD Detective Cole Phelps and his colleague Roy Earle were investigating a robbery case that happened in Los Angeles Union Station, the largest railroad passenger terminal in the Western United States. The 33.1-carat diamond ring of the mayor's wife Liz Fraser went missing after she arrived at LA Union Station in the morning.
After a busy day of investigation, Cole and Roy were taking a rest in the lobby of a litigant's apartment in Hollywood Boulevard. Before they decided to go back to the police station empty-handed, they were ordered by the lieutenant to go to San Francisco as fast as they can. This is a direct order from the Chief of police, you guys are hand-picked by him to follow the case, don't mess it up, boys! DO IT NOW, the lieutenant told them on the phone. Cole and Roy were surprised; they understand that both of them can't drive to SF after a day of work; they were exhausted, their clothes were still jammed with sweat, let alone Cole's fancy car was severely beaten up.
After a brief discussion, the lieutenant agreed to their idea of taking the Southern Pacific overnight all Pullman trains The Lark, which departs LA every night at 8pm. It was also the train that the mayor's wife taken yesterday night. On The Lark train, there was a barbershop, a bath, a fancy dining car, and one of the most famous clubs on the rail, The Lark Club.
Cole and Roy enjoyed a good meal in the dining car. The Pullman Porter was so helpful that he offered them some new and clean underwear for change after they took a shower in the barbershop. The train was leading by a beautiful SP GS-3 4-8-4, carrying a special two-tone gray livery exclusively designed for The Lark train. She is capable of reaching 106mph, staying on schedule was never a difficult task for her!
After 12 hours of journey, Cole and Roy arrived in San Francisco after a good sleep on the new Pullman sleeper. They are ready for a more significant challenge!

FLYING TO LOS ANGELES, PICKING UP OUR RENTAL CAR (USA ROAD TRIP BEGINS!) | EP01
Hey everyone :-) This is the first VLOG of our 1 month USA road trip adventure, starting with the highway 1 road trip along the Pacific Coast highway to San Francisco.
On the 13th of August, I flew into Los Angeles (from Melbourne) to meet up with Robyn. The night I landed, we collected our rental car (the 2018 Cascada convertible) and drove to Santa Monica where we would spend the night.
We've hired this car for 6 days and so we had no plans on where to stay along the Pacific Coast except that we had to have the car at San Francisco Airport on the 18th of August.
This is the very beginning of our MASSIVE adventure across 4 states in the amazing USA!

Los Angeles Metro Light Rail, East Century Boulevard Railroad Crossing, Watts CA
A LA Metro Blue Line light rail train passing the E Century Blvd railroad crossing next to the UP Wilmington Subdivision. I got this crossing to see if the Safetran Type 1 worked or not and it doesn't. I wasn't surprised since I already know another Bell was at the bottom. Its interesting they left it on the Cantilever. This crossing on LA Metro side have an interesting start up. The median and the gateless signal lights don't start up until the gate on the cantilever Signal starts lowering. Theirs an new signal on LA Metro side also coming because they are building pedestrian gates all down the LA Metro Blue Line/UP Wilmington Subdivision for better crossing safety. You can see one of the new pedestrian gates are set up by Metro's cantilever and their are more to come next to UPs cantilever, on the left, and replace Metro's gateless mast signal. trams numbers are LA Metro MTA 121 and 103.

Signals on this side of tracks are owned and maintained by Union Pacific Railroad and bells ring through whole activation. Signals on other side are owned and maintained by LA Metro MTA and Lights on Median and Gateless Signal Start up when Gate lowers and bells ring till gates rise. Crossing also has five no left or right turn signals.
