गगनगड हा उंच घाटमाथ्यावरील किल्ला, सह्याद्रीच्या पसरलेल्या खोल दऱ्या आणि त्यांच्या उंचवट्यावर उभा राहिलेला गगनगड आजही आपला दरारा राखून आहे. समुद्रसपाटीपासून ६९१ मीटर उंचीवर असणाऱ्या या किल्ल्याची रचना घाटवाट्यांवर लक्ष्य ठेवण्यासाठी करण्यात आली. दक्षिण कोंकणात असणाऱ्या बंदरांमध्ये उतरवलेला माल कुडाळ, कणकवली, गगनबावडा घाटामार्गे देशावर जात असे. त्यांच्यावर लक्ष्य ठेवण्यासाठी व गरजेच्यावेळी तो घाटमार्ग रोखून धरण्यासाठी घाटमाथ्यावर किल्ले बांधले जात, गगनगड त्यापैकीच एक. ह्या किल्ल्याचा इतिहास आणि ड्रोनच्या माध्यमातून ह्याची भौगोलिक समृद्धी पहा दुर्गवारीच्या पाचव्या भागात.

महाराष्ट्राचं वैभव असणारे गड किल्ले, आणि या गड किल्ल्यांवर घडलेला शौर्य आणि बलिदानाचा इतिहास दुर्गवारीच्या माध्यमातून अनुभवा आणि इतर लोकांपर्यंत ही तो पोहोचवा...

Gagangad Fort situated on the high mountain-scapes. The deep valleys of the Sahyadri, and the Gagangad which stands on their heights, still today retain its glory. At a height of 691 meters above sea level, the fort was built to keep an eye on ghat roads. Goods shipped into the ports in South Konkan used to travel to the country through Kudal, Kankavali, Gaganbawada ghat. Fortresses were built on the ghats to watch over and block this route when needed. Gagangad is one of them

करवीर प्रांतातून दळण वळणाच्या सोयीसाठी कोकणात जे घाट उतरतात, त्यात करूळ घाट आणि भुईबावडा घाट हे महत्वाचे घाटमार्ग. पैकी करूळ घाट तुलेनेने सोपा आहे. या घाटावर देखरेख करण्यासाठी गगनगडाची उभारणी विक्रमादित्य भोज शिलाहारानी (दुसरा ) सन ११७८ ते १२०९ दरम्यान बांधला.गगनगडावर असणार्‍या दळणवळणाच्या सोयी , गडावर असलेली रहायची व्यवस्था आणि वर्दळ यामुळे वर्षभरात केव्हाही आणि कोणत्याही ॠतुत जाता येईल.

Gaganbawada is a beautiful hill station in Kolhapur district of Maharashtra state in western India. It is located in Sahyadri ranges (western ghats) at an altitude of 2070 ft. Gaganbawada is probably the only place where two ghats (karul ghat & Bhuibawada ghat) originate at one place and move into different directions. The entire Gaganbawda is picturesque with tranquil landscapes, lush green mountains, forests & Beautiful ghat roads. The forests around Gaganbawada are extremely rich in biodiversity. More than 120 species of birds, 50 species of butterflies, 21 species of mammals inhabit the forests of Gaganbawada. Home to many medicinal plants and herbs. Gaganbawada offers the most scenic views of mighty mountain ranges of Sahyadri (Western Ghats). Gaganbawada a very less explored but an extremely beautiful hill station.

Gagangiri Maharaj Ashram - Fort Gagangad

Gagangad Fort lies in the Kankavli Town, located around 14 km away from the destination. Believed to have been constructed in the 12th century by King Bhoj, this fort stands on a steep rock. It is situated at an average altitude of 3000 ft above sea level, on the highest peak of the Gaganbavada Ghat. Late Pujya Shri Gagangiri Maharaj spent most of his life meditating on the hill of Gagangad. An ashram is situated on the hill well known for its spirituality. Every year many devotees visit this ashram for meditation, and yoga.

Gaganbawada

Gaganbawda is situated on the sahyadri range or the western ghats also has a very famous fort Gagangad near it. Gaganbawada, though only 55 km from Kolhapur, is non developed and hilly area of the district. Gaganbawada gets the maximum rainfall during rainy season. Gaganbawada is on threshold of famous Karul Ghat & Bhuibawada Ghat. Perhaps the only place having two ghats originating at a single place but going towards different directions,one towards Talere-Kankavali (Karul Ghat) and another towards Kharepatan-Rajapur (Bhuibawada Ghat). The Kolhapur district boundary ends immediately after Gaganbawada and Sindhudurg District starts just at the beginning of Karul Ghat and Bhuibawada Ghat.
