The Umberto Gallery (Galleria Umberto) is an impressive looking building featuring a glass roof. Galleria Umberto is located in the heart of Naples Italy.
Galleria Umberto I is a public shopping gallery in Naples, southern Italy. It is located directly across from the San Carlo opera house. It was built between 1887–1891, and was the cornerstone in the decades-long rebuilding of Naples — called the risanamento (lit. making healthy again) — that lasted until World War I. It was designed by Emanuele Rocco, who employed modern architectural elements reminiscent of the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II in Milan. The Galleria was named for Umberto I, King of Italy at the time of construction. It was meant to combine businesses, shops, cafes and social life — public space — with private space in the apartments on the third floor.
The Galleria is a high and spacious cross-shaped affair surmounted by a glass dome braced by 16 metal ribs. Of the four glass-vaulted wings, one fronts on via Toledo (via Roma), still the main downtown thoroughfare, and another opens onto the San Carlo Theater. It has returned to being an active center of Neapolitan civic life after years of decay.
The Galleria Umberto is the setting for The Gallery (1947) by the American writer John Horne Burns (1916–1953) based on his experiences as an American soldier in Naples shortly after the liberation of the city.

Restauro quasi completato nella Galleria Umberto di Napoli. Dopo 4 anni di restauro più della metà della Galleria è stata scoperta dalle transenne e restituita ai napoletani e turisti. Il progetto di restauro avviato dalla Sidief è stato condotto con le tecniche più avanzate di diagnostica finalizzate a orientare in modo inequivocabile le successive attività di restauro. Purtroppo la Galleria è a 2 colori per un contenzioso creatosi tra i condomini e non ci sono ancora date certe per la partenza della fine del restauro.

August 1, 2019 - Near the waterfront, at the foot of Via Toledo, is the open-air (yet, indoor) and very oppulent mall, Galleria Umberto I, which was inspired by a similar mall in Milan that I visted back in 2010.
There isn't much here but a few coffee shops and touristic places, but the decor is lovely. It even makes McDonald's look classy!

Napoli - La Galleria Umberto I è una galleria commerciale costruita tra il 1887 e il 1890, negli stessi anni a Parigi Gustave Eiffel realizzava la sua famosa Torre Eiffel. La Galleria Umberto I di Napoli non aveva nulla da invidiare al monumento no con cui rivaleggiava per bellezza e complessità della struttura, Qui si può gustare un buon caffè nei bar, godere delle vetrine dei negozi, oppure visitare le bellezze pittoriche dei dipinti del settecento della Chiesa di Santa Brigida. La Galleria presenta all'esterno degli archi imponenti d'entrata e all'interno due strade di elegantissimo pavimento a intarsi marmorei che si incrociano ortogonalmente al di sotto della Cupola.

La Galleria di Napoli è uno degli edifici del genere più imponenti d'Italia. La Galleria è caratterizzata da una splendida copertura trasparente a struttura di ferro, con una cupola alta 57 metri e mezzo, impostata su un ottagono di 36 metri. Da notare anche il bel pavimento, a marmi policromi. Dalla Galleria si accede al celebre Teatro Margherita, sala circolare coperta da una volta a ombrello i cui originari decori, in stile 'belle époque' sono purtroppo mal conservati.

We had just got off our coach in the centre of Naples, near the Royal Palace (Palazzo Reale) and the Theatre (Teatro di San Carlo), so I made a short clip looking around the area. The main attraction is the Galleria Umberto I opposite.
