Kandam Kadinagar - Devprayag where confluence of Alaknanda and Bhagirathi happens
The Raghunath temple is one of the 108 Divya desams and listed in the books as Kandam Kadinagar with mangalasanam by Tirumangai Azhwar. Here Lord Rama is said ot have committed Penance for Killing Ravana. Teh Devprayag or Deo Prayag sangam is right below this temple. If you want to do pithru karyam here you must park your vehicle on the other side, cross the bridge, take bath and do the offerings and then climb up to the temple. The easier method is to climb down to the temple from Vijayalakshmi guest house and worship Raghunath Ji. The sangam can be seen from the local deity temple on top
This temple of Raghunathji is located in the Devprayag where confluence of Alaknanda and Bhagirathi happens. The temple is one among the 108 Divyadesham of Vaishnava Sampradaya. This temple is so old that it is believed that it was established by Adi Shankaracharya.
This temple is located just above the holy confluence of Devprayag where the two rivers Alaknanda and Bhagirathi meet and take on the name of Ganges, most sacred river in India.
The temple has a long flight of steps leading up and is believed to be thousands of years old. The priest there pointed out rocks with inscriptions which he claimed was Brahmi script.
Lord Rama is the main deity and there is an idol of the saint Ramanujar who is said to have prayed here.
The wall of the inner sanctum sanctorum of this temple is inscribed with words of Andal Thirupavai, which are hymns sung in praise of the Lord Krishna an avatar of Lord Vishnu by the Tamil saint Andal.

Devprayag This place is famous for the confluence of Alaknanda and Bhagirathi.
After this join of two rivers the combined river is officially known as the river Ganga.
Alaknanda river starts from Alakpuri glacier ahead of Badrinath Dham meets Bhagirathi here. Bhagirathi river starts from Gomukh glacier which is 18 KM from Gangotri temple. This place at a height of 813 meter has high religious significance. Lord Rama meditated here after killing Ravan of Lanka.
There are temples and many steps are there to descend upto the water level. Because of Tehri dam at up stream of river Bhagirathi water level in this river is less and water fluctuates based on the discharge of water from dam. There are warning boards cautioning visitors going down to the water level about the chance of rising water level.
Tourists usually come to this place while returning from Badrinath Dham on their way to Rishikesh. Devprayag ( Deoprayag ) is 68 KM from Rishikesh. Pandas or Pujaris of Badrinath Dham hails from this town.
This place is also famous for astronomical studies. From here one road goes by the side of river Bhagirathi to Yomunotri ( via Tehri ) and other road along the side of river Alaknanda goes to Kirtinagarg, Srinagar and Kedarnath.

The Alaknanda is considered to rise at the confluence and foot of the Satopanth and Bhagirath Kharak glaciers in Uttarakhand, though the Saraswati River tributary flowing from Mana Pass is longer; the two meet at Mana, India, 21 km from Tibet. Three km below Mana the Alaknanda flows past the Hindu pilgrimage centre of Badrinath. It meets the Bhagirathi River at Devprayag after flowing for approximately 190 km (118.1 mi) through the Alaknanda valley. Its main tributaries are the Mandakini, Nandakini, and Pindar rivers. The Alaknanda system drains parts of Chamoli, Tehri, and Pauri districts.
Following the merging at Devprayag, the river is known as the Ganges. The Alaknanda contributes a significantly larger portion to the flow of the Ganges than the Bhagirathi. The Alaknanda is also known for adventure sports such as rafting.
According to Scriptures, the Goddess Ganga descended to earth at Gangotri, the original source of the Bhagirathi before the Gangotri Glacier receded to its current location at Gomukh. The Alaknanda is believed to have split off from the celestial Ganges when it descended from heaven.
The origin of Alaknanda River is of special interest to the tourists who visit the important pilgrimages in Uttarakhand. The Ganges rises in the southern Himalayas on the Indian side of the Tibet border. The five headstreams of the Ganges including the Bhagirathi, Mandakini, Alaknanda, Dhauliganga and Pindar, all rising in the northern mountainous regions of Uttarakhand.
On the Satopanth Glacier six km up from Alaknanda's origin at its snout, the triangular Lake Satopanth is found at a height of 4350 m. It and the glacier are named after the Hindu trinity Lord Brahma, Lord Vishnu, Lord Shiva.
Nanda Devi is the highest point in the Alaknanda basin.
Badrinath:

Badrinath, one of the holy destinations for Hindus in India is located near to the bank of the Alaknanda River. This place is surrounded by two mountain ranges of Nar and Narayan and Neelkanth peak is located at the back side.
