Gardoš - Zemun - See Belgrade inside
Hello, this is See Belgrade inside, story about Gardoš.
During the last few years Gardosh became one of the major touristic attraction in Zemun, Belgrade quart across Sava.
Gardoš is a name of a tower but also a name of an area around the tower. People from Zemun like to call it the tower of Sibinjanin Janko, a Hungarian hero from 1456 who defended Belgrade from Turkish attacks. Interesting, but not true. The tower was built in 1896. and its name is a Millennium tower. It was built by the Hungarian people and it’s a part of a group of seven monuments which celebrates 1000 years of Hungarian rule.
There are more mysterious stories about Gardoš. One myth was that there is a tunnel which goes under Danube and connects Gardoš with Kalemegdan, Belgrade fortress. Well, interesting, but I think that Zemun itself is more than a mystery, the atmosphere which can be felt on Danube bank is magic. Streets with cobblestone, one of which leads to Gardoš, typical houses, lots of restaurants and small taverns are landmarks of Zemun, especially on Danube shore. In the evening everything changes, streets become alive, you can hear live acoustic music from restaurants, regardless to your taste in fun and music, where ever you enter, you will have a great time.
Gardoš tower was a ruin before Mr. Đorđe Čubrilo, art photographer, restored it. After restauration it was opened for tourists. One of Gardoš attractions is a magnificent view from the tower terrace, on Zemun, on the confluence of Sava and Danube and on New Belgrade.
Ok, now you know a little bit about Gardoš, I hope enough to make you come here, becouse words and pictures without live people and smell of a Danube can be just a good invitation, nothing more.
I hope you liked my story about Gardoš and Zemun, and when you come in Belgrade next time or first time dont miss Gardoš, it will be like eating good fish without some good wine.....
Till next story in see Belgrade inside, goodby!

Belgrade, Serbia Interrail Vlog
Belgrade is the capital and largest city of Serbia. It is located at the confluence of the Sava and Danube rivers, where the Pannonian Plain meets the Balkans. Its name translates to White city. The urban area of the City of Belgrade has a population of 1.23 million, while over 1.65 million people live within its administrative limits.
One of the most important prehistoric cultures of Europe, the Vinča culture, evolved within the Belgrade area in the 6th millennium BC. In antiquity, Thraco-Dacians inhabited the region, and after 279 BC Celts conquered the city, naming it Singidūn. It was conquered by the Romans during the reign of Augustus, and awarded city rights in the mid-2nd century.[7] It was settled by the Slavs in the 520s, and changed hands several times between the Byzantine Empire, Frankish Empire, Bulgarian Empire and Kingdom of Hungary before it became the capital of Serbian king Stephen Dragutin (1282–1316). In 1521, Belgrade was conquered by the Ottoman Empire and became the seat of the Sanjak of Smederevo. It frequently passed from Ottoman to Habsburg rule, which saw the destruction of most of the city during the Austro-Ottoman wars. Belgrade was again named the capital of Serbia in 1841. Northern Belgrade remained the southernmost Habsburg post until 1918, when the city was reunited. As a strategic location, the city was battled over in 115 wars and razed 44 times. Belgrade was the capital of Yugoslavia from its creation in 1918.
