Gare de l'Est (Gare de Paris-Est) | Explore France
Paris Est (or Gare de l'Est, East station in English) is one of the six large SNCF termini in Paris. It is in the 10th arrondissement, not far from the Gare du Nord, facing the Boulevard de Strasbourg, part of the north-south axis of Paris created by Baron Haussmann. It is one of the largest and the oldest railway stations in Paris, the western terminus of the Paris–Strasbourg railway and the Paris–Mulhouse railway.
The Gare de l'Est was opened in 1849 by the Compagnie du Chemin de Fer de Paris à Strasbourg (the Paris-Strasbourg Railway Company) under the name Strasbourg platform. This platform corresponds today with the hall for main-line trains, and was designed by the architect François Duquesnay. It was renamed the Gare de l'Est in 1854, after the expansion of service to Mulhouse.

A Walk Around Gare de l' Est (Train Station), Paris
Gare de l'Est (East station in English), officially Paris-Est, is one of the six large SNCF termini in Paris.
Renovations to the station followed in 1885 and 1900. In 1931 it was doubled in size, with the new part of the station built symmetrically with the old part. This transformation changed the surrounding neighborhood significantly.
At the top of the west façade of the Gare de l'Est is a statue by the sculptor Philippe Joseph Henri Lemaire, representing the city of Strasbourg, while the east end of the station is crowned by a statue personifying Verdun, by Varenne. These two cities are important destinations serviced by Gare de l'Est.
On 4 October 1883, the Gare de l'Est saw the first departure of the Orient Express for Istanbul.
The Gare de l'Est is the terminus of a strategic railway network extending towards the eastern part of France, and it saw large mobilizations of French troops, most notably in 1914, at the beginning of World War I. In the main-line train hall, a monumental painting by Albert Herter, Le Départ des poilus, août 1914 dating from 1926, illustrates the departure of these soldiers for the Western front.
SNCF started LGV Est Européenne services from the Gare de l'Est on 10 June 2007, with TGV and ICE services to north-eastern France, Luxembourg, southern Germany and Switzerland. Trains are initially planned to run at 320 km/h (198 mph), with the potential to run at 350 km/h (217 mph), cutting travel times by up to 2 hours.

Paris, France - Paris Métro - Gare de l'Est (2018)
The Gare de l'Est (Station of the East in English), officially Paris-Est, is one of the six large SNCF termini in Paris.
The Paris Métro, short for Métropolitain (French: Métro de Paris), is a rapid transit system in the Paris metropolitan area. A symbol of the city, it is known for its density within the city limits and its uniform architecture, influenced by Art Nouveau. It is mostly underground and 214 kilometres (133 mi) long. It has 303 stations, of which 62 have transfers between lines. There are 16 lines, numbered 1 to 14 with two lines, 3bis and 7bis, which are named because they started out as branches of lines 3 and 7; later they officially became separate lines; the Metro is still numbered as if these lines were absent. Lines are identified on maps by number and colour, and direction of travel is indicated by the terminus.
It is the second busiest subway system in Europe, after the Moscow Metro, and the tenth-busiest in the world. It carried 1.520 billion passengers in 2015, 4.16 million passengers a day, which amounts to 20% of the overall traffic in Paris. It is one of the densest metro systems in the world, with 245 stations within the 86.9 km2 (34 sq mi) of the city of Paris. Châtelet – Les Halles, with 5 Métro lines and three RER commuter rail lines, is the world's largest metro (subway) station. In 2016, it has been ranked as the best public transport system in the world by the ITDP with all Parisians having an easy access to rapid transportation, ahead of 26 other international cities (including London and New York City). However, the system has generally poor handicapped-accessibility, because most stations were built well before this became a consideration.
The first line opened without ceremony on 19 July 1900, during the World's Fair (Exposition Universelle). The system expanded quickly until the First World War and the core was complete by the 1920s. Extensions into suburbs and Line 11 were built in the 1930s. The network reached saturation after World War II with new trains to allow higher traffic, but further improvements have been limited by the design of the network and in particular the short distances between stations. Besides the Métro, downtown Paris and its urban area are served by the RER developed from the 1960s, several tramway lines, Transilien suburban trains and two VAL lines, serving Charles De Gaulle and Orly airports. In the late 1990s, the automated line 14 was built to relieve RER line A.

1080p HD!
An hour filming at Paris Gare De L'est station on Wednesday 24th July 2013.
Never filmed trains in France before so unfortunately I can't give you much info about what trains are featured in the video, cuz quite frankly I don't really know! Apart from a TGV I know what they look like! ;) haha
Footage may be a bit shaky, because I didn't have my tripod with me in Paris.
Check out the other video taken this day at Gare Du Nord.
THANKS FOR WATCHING!
