2019 Louisiana Gator Classic
First, I want to say thanks to all the staff and ROs that put on the 2019 Gator Classic. It was my first time shooting the match and definitely will not be the last!
Placed 2nd overall in production!
Had an NS on stage 5 . Coming from an open target up to an NS partial I relaxed my wrist - first shot A second shot NS, stepped and loaded and put another A on paper to get the points. Stage 7 on the quad stack in the middle, was dinged an M on the open lower right target which was the first target I engaged in the position. Was shooting confirmation two and saw good picture, and the hole looked oblong to me; didn't get the call. Got another one on stage 8 but earned that one putting one left in the hardcover of the tux on the left array.
Stage 2 was the biggest mistake of the match. Reloaded going into the front array which threw off my next two position's round counts and I failed to correct leading to standing reloads, twice. Those are the mental errors I need to purge from my game most.
Otherwise, I feel good about the match as a warm-up for Lo Cap Nats this coming week. I'll get some sessions in focusing on partial arrays and confirmation three type shots requirements. This was the muddiest match by far that I have ever shot and I was glad that I went out and purchased and now have cleats to bring with me should situations require them. This would have been unmanageable without them.
Oh and apologies on stage 10 missing. The camera stopped mid walk-through apparently.

City lifts long-time ban on stun guns in New Orleans
City officials lifted the ban after a man sued the city on grounds that the ban was unfair to begin with. The federal government treats stun guns like other firearms, one of the arguments people had about why the ban was unfair.

Switchblades / auto-knives now legal in Louisiana, but...
While HB 892 does repeal the senseless prohibition on switchblades / auto-knives in Louisiana as of August 1, 2018, there is an interesting provision about intentionally concealing the knife that could make it illegal. I know, stupid, but it's written in the law.
Thanks to Gator Guns in Sulphur, LA for providing the Benchmade Infidel knife.

BATTLE OF NEW ORLEANS
(Written by Jimmy Driftwood)
Johnny Horton
In 1814, we took a little trip
Along with Colonel Jackson down the mighty Mississip'.
We took a little bacon and we took a little beans
And we caught the bloody British in a town in New Orleans.
We fired our guns and the British kept a-coming
There wasn't nigh as many as there was a while ago.
We fired once more, and they began to running,
On down the Mississippi to the Gulf of Mexico.
We looked down the river and we see'd the British come
and there musta' been a hundred of 'em beating on the drum.
They stepped so high and they made their bugles ring
We stood beside our cotton bales and didn't say a thing.
We fired our guns, and the British kept a-coming
There wasn't nigh as many as there was a while ago.
We fired once more and they began to running,
On down the Mississippi to the Gulf of Mexico.
Ole Hickory said we could take 'em by surprise
If we didn't fire our muskets 'till we look 'em in the eyes.
We held our fire 'til we seen their faces swell
Then we opened up our squirrel guns and really gave 'em... Well..
We fired our guns, and the British kept a-coming
There wasn't nigh as many as there was a while ago.
We fired once more and they began to running,
On down the Mississippi to the Gulf of Mexico.
Well they ran through the briars, and they ran through the brambles
And they ran through the bushes where a rabbit wouldn't go.
They ran so fast that the hounds couldn't catch 'em
On down the Mississippi to the Gulf of Mexico.
We fired our cannon 'til the barrel melted down
So we grabbed an alligator and we fought another round.
We filled his head with cannon balls and powdered his behind,
And when we touched the powder off, the gator lost his mind.
We fired our guns and the British kept a-coming
There wasn't nigh as many as there was a while ago.
We fired once more and they began to running,
On down the Mississippi to the Gulf of Mexico.
Well they ran through the briars and they ran through the brambles
And they ran through the bushes where a rabbit wouldn't go.
They ran so fast that the hounds couldn't catch 'em
On down the Mississippi to the Gulf of Mexico.

8th of January - aka Battle of New Orleans
Another little toe tapper from last Monday night's jam. This little ditty is the 8th of January. The Battle of New Orleans took place on January 8, 1815 and was the final major battle of the War of 1812. American forces, commanded by Major General Andrew Jackson (Old Hickory), defeated an invading British Army intent on seizing New Orleans and the territory that the United States had acquired from France with the Louisiana Purchase in 1803. The Treaty of Ghent, ending the war of 1812, had already been signed on December 24, 1814, but news of the peace would not reach the combatants until February. Unfortunately, since the war was really already over, if only one person had brought their cell phone with, it might not have happened. It is an awful expensive way to get a good tune.
Another lesson was learned that organized troops should not march against an entrenched position. This was lost on the British (and almost everyone else) until the western front disasters in 1914-1918 and the invention of the tank.
Jimmy Driftwood wrote the lyrics to the song we know as Battle of New Orleans to the tune of 8th of January. It was very popular but received no airtime on the radio because it had the words Hell and Damn in it. The lyrics were altered and Johnny Horton requested to record it. Many others have also recorded it including the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, which also had a popular version. Also -- as an interesting note, this song reached #2 on the British charts (although the words were altered again and there was a different outcome -- but its all good as we be friends now). The Artist? Lonnie Donegan.
Musicians include Perrie VanPembrook and Mitch Miller on fiddles, Doug Bacon on banjo, Tyler Wilson on Bass, Melissa Lewis on Cello , Mike Madigan on Bodhran, and John Bennett on guitar.
Jimmy Driftwood's original Lyrics are below -- not the popularized version that was rewritten and used by Johnny Horton and others.
BATTLE OF NEW ORLEANS(Jimmy Driftwood; tune: Eighth of January, trad.)
Well, in 18 and 14, we took a little trip
Along with Colonel Jackson down the mighty Missisip
We took a little bacon and we took a little beans
And we met the bloody British in the town of New Orleans
We fired our guns and the British kept a comin'
There wasn't nigh as many as there was a while ago
We fired once more and they began a running
Down the Mississippi to the Gulf of Mexico Well,
I seed Marse Jackson come a-walkin' down the street
And a-talkin' to a pirate by the name of Jean Lafitte;
He gave Jean a drink that he brung from Tennessee,
And the pirate said he'd help us drive the British to the sea.
Well the French told Andrew, You had better run
For Packenham's a=comin' with a bullet in his gun.
Old Hickory said he didn't give a damn
He's a-gonna whup the britches off of Colonel Packenham.
Well, we looked down the river and we seed the British come
And there must have been a hundred of them beating on the drum
They stepped so high and they made their bugles ring
While we stood behind our cotton bales and didn't say a thing
Old Hickory said we could take em by surprise
If we didn't fire a musket till we looked em in the eyes
We held our fire till we seed their faces well
Then we opened up our squirrel guns and really gave em Hell..
Well they ran through the briars and they ran through the brambles
And they ran through the bushes where a rabbit couldn't go
They ran so fast the hounds couldn't catch em
Down the Mississippi to the Gulf of Mexico
Well we fired our cannons till the barrels melted down
So we grabbed an alligator and we fought another round
We filled his head with minie balls and powdered his behind
And when we touched the powder off, the 'gator lost his mind
They lost their pants and their pretty shiny coats
And their tails was all a-showin' like a bunch of billy goats.
They ran down the river with their tongues a-hanging out
And they said they got a lickin', which there wasn't any doubt.
Well we marched back to town in our dirty ragged pants
And we danced all night with the pretty girls from France;
We couldn't understand 'em, but they had the sweetest charms
And we understood 'em better when we got 'em in our arms.
Well, the guide who brung the British from the sea
Come a-limping into camp just as sick as he could be,
He said the dying words of Colonel Packenham was,
You better quit your foolin' with your cousin Uncle Sam.
Well, we'll march back home, but we'll never be content
Till we make Old Hick'ry the people's president.
And every time we think about the bacon and the beans
We'll think about the fun we had way down in New Orleans.

GRAPHIC PIX Recovery of bodies after hurricane Katrina
(16 Sep 2005) US President George W. Bush on Thursday proposed a sweeping plan for the federal government to pick up most of the costs of rebuilding New Orleans and the rest of the hurricane-ravaged US Gulf Coast, in one of the largest reconstruction projects the world has ever seen.
It has been 19 days since Hurricane Katrina struck the US Gulf coast region and still waters flood the lower parts of Orleans parish, near the University of New Orleans.
As an APTN crew used a boat to travel around the parish, search and recovery crews were seen going building to building.
US Army Search and Rescue's Lieutenant Bill Pursinger described scenes witnessed by his teams as they worked around the neighbourhood.
He said that although the locations of many of the bodies had been recorded and sent to FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency), the group responsible for picking them up had not yet done so.
Across five Gulf Coast states, the death toll from Katrina stood at 710, led by 474 in Louisiana.
Meanwhile, electricity has been restored to large sections of the New Orleans' Central Business District and there are signs that that part of the city is starting to come alive.
The city's Mayor C. Ray Nagin announced plans on Thursday to reopen some of New Orleans' most vibrant and least flood-ravaged neighbourhoods over the next week and a half, including the French Quarter.
The move could bring back more than 180,000 of the city's original half-million residents.
