Costa Rica - a year in 2 minutes and 40 seconds
Costa Rica - a year in 2 minutes and 40 seconds
Filled with short videos that me or my friends captured of moments. Because, initially, that was what this year was - a collection of moments, of memories, of adventures.
Flying off into an unknown country, with an unknown language and an unknown culture like that, is one of the hardest things I’ve ever done. But I don’t regret even a second of it. Because every moment, good and bad, was an experience I would not have had otherwise.
I highly recommend doing something like this. Leaving home and flying off to another country, far away from everything that you know. Stepping out of your comfort zone. I promise you, the lessons you learn when you’re on your own in a strange place will change you and you’re view on the world significantly.
Places I visited this year:
~ Central Valley/ San José
~ Sàmara/ Nosara, Guanacaste
~ La Fortuna/ Monteverde, Alajuela
~ Bocas del Toro, Panama
~ Costa Rica Animal Rescue Center, Turrucares, Alajuela
~ Santa Theresa, Puntarenas
~ Quepos, Puntarenas
~ Boquete, Panama
~ Rancho Tinamu, Puntarenas
~ Puerto Viejo/Cahuita, Límon
Special thanks to
~ Yorlene, Sandro, Sofia, Fabi, Mili, Macho, Marcelo and Sebastian (my host family)
~ Meli, Jose and Yui (and the rest of my friends from the Saint Nicholas of Flüe School)
~ Lilli, Nina, Veza, Flo, Diego, Konsti, Oskar, Sophia, Eli, Merle, Nele, Jonas, Zoe, Antoine, Maddy, Mia, Sarah (and everyone from CAS)
~ Ian, Flora, Bo, Sam, David, Andy, Paloma, Andres (and everyone I met at the Costa Rica Animal Rescue Center)
~ The Wak from scout group 12
~ Emilio, Ashley, Gabriel, Chen, Yarigny, Genesis, Lucia, Atenea, Natalia, the Generación 2019, and everyone I met at the Conservatorio de Castella
~ Mami, Papi and Nina and the support I got from my family at home
~ All the friends who‘s phone calls and texts and supportive words from home built me up and kept me going throughout the year
You guys made this year one of the best I’ve ever lived through and I will never forget how this year, but especially you guys, have shaped me.
Gracias para todos! Los amo muchísimo

Celebration of Hope: GROW | Steve Gillen & Global Ministry Partners
Each year we’ve heard stories of the work God is doing through our partners around the world. These stories have consistently helped to GROW our understanding of the deep needs of those around the world and GROW our faith in a God who is big enough to supply the very deepest of those needs. This year, we’ll be hearing from many of our partners in person as they share the places where they’ve seen God at work, where they’re still waiting, and what God may be calling them to next. Pastor Steve Gillen hosts a panel with Khalil & Randa Halaseh, Kabwe Kabwe, and Miguel Rojas.
Recorded live at Willow Creek Community Church in South Barrington, IL.

Chapter 8 3:29:24 - Workshops 2A
Chapter 9 3:56:21 - Closing Remarks
To fully explore and understand the ocean, we can no longer rely on a handful of large, expensive research vessels and vehicles. We truly need all hands on deck to do it.
On November 8-9, 2018, we brought together leaders and changemakers in ocean exploration, entertainment, recreation, and art to imagine new ways to empower an open, inclusive global community of ocean explorers. Our goal is to imagine creative ways to make the ocean so pervasive in modern culture that everyone has a positive association with and understanding of the sea.

Fourteen Years of Clinical Research with Ayahuasca - Jordi Riba
Fourteen Years of Clinical Research with Ayahuasca
Jordi Riba
Abstract: This presentation will review completed and ongoing ayahuasca research conducted at Sant Pau Hospital in Barcelona, Spain. The presentation will highlight the results of a series of studies addressing the impact of ayahuasca use on neuropsychological performance and emotional processing. The results from a recent neuroimaging study will also be discussed, in which cortical changes were found in the brains of long-term ayahuasca users.
Jordi Riba, PhD, started his research career in the field of organic chemistry studying new pathways for the synthesis of indole alkaloids. In 1996, he became interested in the pharmacology of psychoactive drugs and started working on his doctoral thesis under the supervision of Prof. Manel Barbanoj. In 1999, he obtained approval for the first controlled clinical trial conducted with ayahuasca, and in 2003 his PhD with a thesis on the human pharmacology of this Amazonian entheogen. He is currently Associate Professor of Pharmacology at the Autonomous University of Barcelona and Associate Researcher at the Biomedical Research Institute of Sant Pau Hospital in Barcelona, where he has conducted a series of clinical studies involving the administration of ayahuasca to experienced psychedelic/entheogen users. He also conducted the first neuroimaging study of acute ayahuasca administration. His research interests also include cannabinoids, psychostimulants, and the salvinorins. His research has been published in leading scientific journals including the Journal of Clinical Psychopharmacology, Journal of Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics, Psychopharmacology, British Journal of Clinical Pharmacology, and Journal of Psychoactive Drugs.

2018 Global Mormon Studies Conference - Challenges and Opportunities for Studying Global Mormonism
Panel Discussion with Henri Gooren, Caroline Kline, and Matt Martinich. Moderated by Fred Axelgard.
As Mormonism has become an increasingly globalized religion, the scholarly study of the religion has failed to keep pace. Toward Global Mormon Studies, a two-day conference sponsored by the Howard W. Hunter Foundation and the Mormon Studies program at Claremont Graduate University, featured leading experts on Mormonism around the world who reflected on the challenges and opportunities of adopting a global perspective in better understanding the religion and its people.
For more than 90 years, Claremont Graduate University has been a leader in graduate education. 40 master’s and 19 doctoral degree fields. Limited enrollment, renowned faculty, and small class sizes devoted entirely to graduate study. At CGU we put students first.

Ecuador ( (listen) EK-wə-dor, Spanish: [ekwaˈðoɾ]) (Quechua: Ikwayur), officially the Republic of Ecuador (Spanish: República del Ecuador, which literally translates as Republic of the Equator; Quechua: Ikwadur Ripuwlika), is a country in northwestern South America, bordered by Colombia on the north, Peru on the east and south, and the Pacific Ocean to the west. Ecuador also includes the Galápagos Islands in the Pacific, about 1,000 kilometres (620 mi) west of the mainland. The capital city is Quito, while the largest city is Guayaquil.
What is now Ecuador was home to a variety of Amerindian groups that were gradually incorporated into the Inca Empire during the 15th century. The territory was colonized by Spain during the 16th century, achieving independence in 1820 as part of Gran Colombia, from which it emerged as its own sovereign state in 1830. The legacy of both empires is reflected in Ecuador's ethnically diverse population, with most of its 16.4 million people being mestizos, followed by large minorities of European, Amerindian, and African descendants. Spanish is the official language and is spoken by a majority of the population, though 13 Amerindian languages are also recognized, including Quichua and Shuar.
The sovereign state of Ecuador is a middle-income representative democratic republic with a developing economy that is highly dependent on commodities, namely petroleum and agricultural products. It is governed as a democratic presidential republic. One of 17 megadiverse countries in the world, Ecuador hosts many endemic plants and animals, such as those of the Galápagos Islands. In recognition of its unique ecological heritage, the new constitution of 2008 is the first in the world to recognize legally enforceable Rights of Nature, or ecosystem rights.
