This video covers my Sunday morning visit to Plains, Georgia which is the birthplace and home of the 39th President of the United States, Jimmy Carter. I visit the historic downtown, the railroad depot that served as Carter's Presidential Campaign Headquarters, Billy Carter's Gas Station which is now a museum, Jimmy's High School which is now a museum and visitor center, Jimmy Carter Peanut of Plains Statue, Maranatha Baptist Church, Jimmy Carter Boyhood Farm and I drive past Jimmy & Rosalynn's current home.

Jimmy Carter National Historic Site, Plains GA
The hometown of our 39th President, Plains, Georgia is now a unit of the National Park Service as a National Historic Site. What better gift could the Carters, born and raised and still residents here, give their rural Georgia home? We visited on a busy Saturday and explored the park on our way to Columbus.

PLAINS, GA (WALB) A doll found hanging off a Main Street building in Plains is causing controversy.
Controversial enough to get the United States Secret Service involved.
Witnesses say it was an image of President Barack Obama with a rope around his neck, and the display was found hanging in one of the city's most recognizable sites dedicated to former President Jimmy Carter.
A few people were able to snap pictures of the black doll before it was taken down.
I saw this stuffed thing hanging up, said Alonzo Davis, Plains Resident.
Davis is one of the people who saw the doll hanging off the brick building, he said a sign on the front had President Obama's name on it.
People have seen it and have the pictures but no body is talking about it, said Davis. I don't think it's right I don't know if it's someone horse playing or what.
Plains is proud of Jimmy Carter, with patriotism on display almost everywhere. Tourists walked around with no idea of what happened Saturday morning, but some who live here are speaking out.
It's wrong what they did, but I'm not shocked to hear about it, said Plains resident Trevor Sims. It's a nice place to live and visit but some people out there don't like it.
Both the Plains Police Department and the Sumter County Sheriff's Office were notified.
The Secret Service is handling the situation, we called and they said they won't have a comment until next week.

As a result of the deception, Richard Matt and David Sweat were accounted for during a morning bed check at the Clinton Correctional Facility in Dannemora, about 20 miles south of the Canadian border, said New York State police.

My wife and I were returning to our home in Elizabethtown, KY this past April, we had been to Arcadia, FL to check on our 90 year old aunt. On the return trip, we stopped at Plains, GA and having met Ms. Jann Williams and her husband, George, they assisted us in getting to meet President Jimmy Carter. This was the first Commander In Chief we had ever met in person and President Carter is a very humble man and it was an honor to meet him and later, Ms. Rosalynn Carter. We later were invited by Ms. Carter to attend their church and it was a wonderful experience meeting them both, as well as Mr. and Mrs. Williams. Plains, GA is a small town, a lot like Mayberry, and my wife and I plan on a return visit again. We admire the President for his many humanitarian missions for peace around the world and for his work in Habit for Humanity, he is quite the master carpenter. Ms. Carter has been a mental health advocate for years and we have the utmost respect for her too.
