STORYLINE:
Musicians from the best known orchestra in the United States left China for North Korea on Monday, where their next performance will make history.
The New York Philharmonic Orchestra will perform in Pyongyang on Tuesday, becoming the first major US cultural group to travel to the isolated country since the Korean peninsula's division six decades ago.
The US and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) remain technically at war since the 1953 cease-fire halted the Korean War and have no normal diplomatic relations.
However, if all goes as planned, the anthems and flags of both nations will be together in Pyongyang on Tuesday night.
The oldest US orchestra intends to use the power of music to pierce North Korea's isolation, playing a historic concert in the communist nation as the two countries struggle to resolve a protracted standoff over Pyongyang's nuclear weapons.
The orchestra left Beijing on Monday for the North following a tour of Asia.
They will perform on Tuesday evening at the East Pyongyang Grand Theatre in a concert to be televised internationally and live inside the country.
The performance comes amid a US diplomatic push to engage North Korea in the wake of Pyongyang's October 2006 nuclear test that cemented its status as a nuclear-armed state.

CAST OF 'GLEE' GETS NYC WELCOME FROM MAYOR
The cast of Glee is in New York City this week to film its second season finale.
Mayor Michael Bloomberg welcomed the stars of the Fox television show Monday with a press conference outside the Gershwin Theater, one of the filming locations.
Mayors don't get a lot of time to watch television so I don't know much about this season's plot but actually it would be great to see what happens with Finn and Rachel, to find out if Will gets back with Emma and how Brittany feels about Santana, said Bloomberg.
In the final episode, the students in the New Directions glee club will compete at nationals in New York City. The actors will be filming all week long at Central Park, Lincoln Center and other famous city landmarks. Dozens of fans lined up Monday to get a glimpse of them.

The Sidewalks of New York: The Documentary (CC)
This film is a documentary that begins with the tale of the famous tune and builds every moment toward the fascinating story behind Governor Al Smith, the most forgotten historical figure in American history. The elections of 1924 and 1928 are featured prominently in the story's second half, and along the way a handful of songs from the same time period are played to portray that, while this film is somewhat about the tune 'The Sidewalks of New York', the other songs do their part to lift up and bring the story home, all joining together to complete one of the most inspiring tales in New York history.

Corrections and updates:
- Joshua Beal (not Joseph) is the proper credit for the panoramic photograph
- Angel Guastaferro performed Pretty Jennie Slattery on piano
- Al Smith's wife Catherine, known as Katie, died several months before Al did, not just one week
- William Wordsworth originally coined the Happy Warrior words
