AO NANG to RAILAY BEACH, THAILAND | Long Tail Boat and Railay Beach Viewpoint hike
SUBSCRIBE TO JACK AND GAB
We decided to take a long tail boat ride from Ao Nang to the famous Railay Beach, Thailand.
We were joined by some very special guests, Jack and Gab from Jack and Gab Explore.
This is a 2 part series, so don't forget to head over to their channel for part 2 of this episode! :)
On the day, we easily bought the boat tickets to Railay Beach from the kiosk on Ao Nang Beach which was 200 BHT per person, including return. We jumped in the Long Tail Boat and the ride from Ao Nang to Railay Beach was fun and surprisingly smooth. Railay Beach was packed even though it was only 10.30am. The water was right up leaving little room to get our tan on, so we decided to hike to Railay Viewpoint. Little did we know the huge task that was about to unravel infront of us!

KRABI ― Ao Nang Islands Montage | Glidecam Cinematics
Next, I headed up to the Ao Nang Islands in Krabi, Thailand - still using my old HD camera (Sony HDR-PJ10) on a stabilizer (Glidecam HD-2000: And as always, I color corrected it in Adobe After Effects and edited it in Adobe Premiere to make it look as close as how I experienced it in reality.
Ao Nang, short form for Ao Phra Nang means Princess Bay, and it is the most 'Westernized' beach in Krabi, Thailand. It’s also one of the mountain cave stalagmite stalactites, and they are completely surrounded by beautiful limestone hills and clear water beaches.
This one video is definitely not going to do justice for the complete beauty of Krabi, so am definitely gonna’ go back there again soon to experience and capture the other beautiful islands and beaches surrounding it both from the ground and from mid-air. And this time, it's all going to be in 4K!
Krabi Night Market
Krabi Night Market (Krabi Town Walking Street or Thanon Khon Dern in Thai) is certainly the most important shopping event in Krabi Town. It is held every Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 17:00 to 22:00 in Soi Maharaj 8 and on the 2,000sqm plaza situated right behind Vogue Department Store in downtown Krabi. With something like 50 stalls selling a wide range of products and street food, Krabi Town Night market gathers every weekend an incredibly large crowd for such a small area. Started in 2013, this weekly event allows visitors to get a glimpse into southern Thailand life and discover local artisans and artists who come here to present their products. A night market would not be a night market in Thailand without tasty snacks to grab, so there is a multitude of Thai street food favourites to sample here while wandering around this lively market.
The variety of items for sale from one stall to the other is quite interesting: standard fashionable T-shirts and fisherman’s pants are next to “handmade with real cow leather” handbags; while a few metres away you could find a gardening tools stall, then an “I Love Krabi” fabric bags stand, before reaching a booth selling oyster pearls jewellery, which itself faces a local artist selling revisited pop-art paintings. It seems that almost anything (plus the rest) can be found at Krabi Town Walking Street and all of it at lower prices than in the most renowned resort towns – Ao Nang for instance – of the province. As in most markets in Thailand, bargaining is expected; with a smile you could get these low prices even lower. As stated above: there is no market without food in Thailand. On that matter, Krabi Town Walking Street is pretty well-stocked. The rather large central plaza is covered with plastic tables and chairs surrounded by an impressive choice of stands selling prepared food from grilled satay (chicken, pork or beef brochettes dipped in coconut cream, chili and peanut butter sauce) to barbecued fish to fried squid egg to steamed crab, to cakes and sweets (kanom in Thai) and more! A large choice of drinks is also available – fresh orange juice, fruit shakes and beers – and there even is an original stall that sells cocktails such as long island ice tea, B52, Cuba libre and kamikaze, served in bamboo glasses, with prices ranging from 120 to 180 baht. There are also musical performances throughout the evening with children from Krabi Music School playing Thai tunes with traditional instruments, a Thai guitarist playing Thai Folk classics, and Thai dancing demonstrations on the large stage located on the central plaza.

Opening Hours: Fri, Sat & Sun from 17:00-22:00 Location: Soi Maharaj 8, behind Vogue Department Store.
Horseshoe Crab at Paknam Krabi Seafood (ปากน้ำกระบี่ซีฟู๊ด)
Paknam Krabi Seafood (ปากน้ำกระบี่ซีฟู๊ด) is a Halal Thai seafood restaurant in Krabi, Thailand. Read all the details about this restaurant here:
Located in the quiet area of southern Krabi town, Paknam Krabi Seafood (ปากน้ำกระบี่ซีฟู๊ด) is a Halal seafood restaurant that serves a delicious selection of fresh seafood dishes - most of the menu is made up of southern Thai dishes. When Ying and I went, it was a special occasion, and we were both really hungry.
We started off with one of my ultimate favorite southern Thai dishes, goong pad phet sataw (กุ้งผัดเผ็ดสะตอ), shrimp stir fried with curry paste and stink beans. What I loved about the version here was that it was nice and flavorful from the curry paste, and they also added in some coconut cream to make it even more rich and creamy. The shrimp were big and meaty and fresh, and the stink beans were just slightly stir fried so they were crisp, and retained all their flavor.
Another dish I can’t get enough of in the south of Thailand is gaeng som aw dip (แกงส้มออดิบ), one of my favorite dishes. This gaeng som, a sour spicy curry soup, included fish and aw dip, which in Thai are taro stems. It was very good, nice and spicy, and flavorful from the fish and turmeric. Pad pak liang pad kai (ผัดผักเหลียงไข่) is in English melinjo leaves, and in this dish they are stir fried with egg. It’s one of my favorite vegetable dishes. This version was alright, but not incredible. I think it could have been stir fried on a bit of a higher heat so it would have more of a smoky and dry flavor.
Finally, for our final mega dish, Ying and I ordered the Yam kai meng da (ยำไข่แมงดา), a fresh horseshoe crab, mixed with strands of green mango, shallots, chilies, and herbs, and dressed in lime juice and fish sauce. It was delicious, very refreshing. The little eggs were like little yolks.
Paknam Krabi Seafood (ปากน้ำกระบี่ซีฟู๊ด) is a good restaurant in Krabi town, Thailand, and they serve strictly Halal Thai food. It’s also a nice location, a good place to sit and enjoy the evening.

Boat trip from Ao Nang, Thailand. Sunset
No Sleep Sleeper Train | Chiang Mai to Bangkok, Thailand
It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the time when Marisa and Madelyn got first class tickets in the sleeper train while the rest of the family was banished in 2nd class.
We decided to take the sleeper train from Chiang Mai to Bangkok. It was a new experience for all of us. It was a 13 hour train ride so we decided to sleep through it. Easier said than done. There weren't 6 first class tickets available so our family was split down the middle between classes. The rich in first class, the not so rich in second.
Join as and see the class division that occurs. Those in first class suddenly felt like the second classers weren't worthy of their presence. The second classers suffered through the smells of curry and chimpanzee while the first class quenched their thirst with orange juice. The chasm between the classes only got bigger throughout the trip.
If you are considering the sleeper train from Chiang Mai to Bangkok check out the difference between classes.

Thai Fish Salad (ลาบปลา) in Udon Thani, Thailand
Taw Baw Pla Pao (ท่อบ่อปลาเผา) is one of the best restaurants in Udon Thani. Get more details here:
Udon Thani has quite a food good local restaurants, including an amazing restaurant that serves beef, and when it comes to fish, Taw Baw Pla Pao (ท่อบ่อปลาเผา) is one of the absolute best options. They specialize and are known throughout Udon Thani for serving some of the freshest fish available in the city. The restaurant is located near the Udon Thani airport, so every now and then a plane will fly overhead. You can either choose to sit at one of the tables, or you can sit in a private relaxing bungalow - that’s what we decided to do - how could you give up the chance to recline while eating a meal?
The menu at Taw Baw Pla Pao (ท่อบ่อปลาเผา) includes all Isaan northeastern Thai dishes, and also some local specialties as well, but everything is focused on tilapia, which in Thai is known as pla nin (ปลานิล). Something many people order at the restaurant is a whole salt crusted and roasted fish, known as pla pao, but since I had been eating pla pao frequently while in Udon Thani, I decided to try some of the dishes on their menu that are harder to find.
We started with a dish called pla luak jim (ปลาลวกจิ้ม), slices of fish, boiled with a trio of herbs including lemongrass, galangal, and kaffir lime leaves. The fish was dished out onto a plate, garnished with cabbage, and topped with a handful of toasted fried garlic. The pla luak jim (ปลาลวกจิ้ม) was served with a side dipping sauce, similar to an Isaan style seafood sauce, that included lots of fresh garlic, chilies, and a perfect blend of fish sauce and lime juice. It was an excellent way to start our meal. The next dish that came was a plate of som tam Laos (ส้มตำลาว), green papaya salad doused in fermented fish sauce, chilies, and with a Laos olive inside. It was fantastic, always one of my favorite dishes at any Isaan restaurant in Thailand, and in Udon Thani, they make no mistakes when it comes to som tam.
But the dish that was the most outstanding was the laab pla (ลาบปลา), a minced fish salad, that was stashed full of all the delicious laab ingredients like fish sauce, lime juice, toasted sticky rice powder, chili flakes, and herbs like cilantro and mint. The fish was oily and moist, and absolutely beautiful. I loved it so much that I ended up buying two extra bags for takeaway after we finished out meal, to eat for dinner that same day.
Finally, the last dish we had at Taw Baw Pla Pao (ท่อบ่อปลาเผา) was bon pla (ป่นปล), a recommendation we got from the waitress. It was my first time to see bon pla (ป่นปล) on a menu, so I wasn’t sure what to expect. It turned out to be similar to a fish nam prik, a type of chili sauce. The bowl included minced fish, with shallots, diced chilies, cilantro, and a broth that tasted to me like fish stock mixed with a bit of pla ra - fermented fish sauce. The bon pla (ป่นปล) was served with a plate of boiled vegetables to dip. It was excellent.
Taw Baw Pla Pao (ท่อบ่อปลาเผา) is one of the best restaurants in Udon Thani that I ate at during my stay. Everything we ordered was delicious, and the freshness of their fish is what really stood out. If you are in Udon Thani, Taw Baw Pla Pao (ท่อบ่อปลาเผา) is one of the top restaurants to eat at for fish.

Thai Street Food - Pla Pao (Roasted Fish) at Central World Street Food Stalls in Bangkok!
Check out my Thai street food guide: and also my travel and street food website here
One of the best things about visiting Bangkok is taking advantage of the incredible array of Thai street food available. It's nearly everywhere you look and it's mostly quite sanitary, affordable, and most importantly, it's incredible delicious. There's Thai street food all over Bangkok and throughout the entire country. One of the most popular shopping areas in the city is known as Pratunam, an area that's just a short distance from Siam shopping area and just a short walk from Central World mall. Everyday, thousands of pedestrians pass this little stretch next to Central World and for that reason, there's an abundance of wonderful street food available. Starting at about 5 pm each day, there are a series of full Thai street food restaurants that set up just outside of Central World shopping mall in Bangkok. The place that I ate at in the video goes by Ratchaprasong Thai Food (ราชประสงค์ ไทยฟู้ด). They specialize in mostly Isaan cuisine from the northeaster part of the country, but they also have some other stir fried Chinese style dishes as well. But when I go, I mostly go with an intent to eat a few of the items off the grill!
Plan chon pao (ปลาช่อนเผา), or roasted snake head fish, is the top reason to visit these street stalls. The grills are absolutely packed with this ugly, yet tasty creatures. To prepare them Thai style, the fish is first stuffed in the mouth with lemongrass and herbs and then rolled in a thick layer of salt. The fish is then slow roasted on open charcoal as it slow cooks. The result is a flaky fish that's a gem of Thai street food. Served with a seafood sauce, called nam jim seafood, it's amazing. The fish is flaky and remains moist and flavorful from the cooking process. I also tried their grilled chicken, known as gai yang in Thai. It was indeed flavorful, but my only complaint is that it was slightly dry. However, that's just sort of the way street food may be, some pieces of chicken might be dry and others nice and moist. Lastly, now Thai meal on the street like this would be complete without a helping of green papaya salad. I asked for it spicy, and they didn't fail to load it with spicy chillies. Made with fresh ingredients, the green papaya was crisp and mixed with a tomatoes, dry shrimp, chillies, garlic, palm sugar, fish sauce, and lime juice. It was excellent. Along with the other dishes, I also enjoyed a few plates of Thai sticky rice to bring the meal together!
Sitting on the side of the busy road and with countless pedestrians that walk past every minute, Ratchaprasong Thai Food (ราชประสงค์ ไทยฟู้ด) doesn't have the greatest ambiance. But it sure is convenient and the Thai street food there is quite appetizing!
