Ghurni (Bengali: ঘূর্ণি) is a neighbourhood of Krishnanagar in Nadia district in the Indian state of West Bengal. It is the centre for the production of clay dolls, often referred to as Krishnanagar clay dolls.
Ghurni is located at 23.25°N 88.34°E[1] on the banks of the Jalangi River.
It can be reached from Kolkata by either train (100 km (62 mi)) or bus (118 km (73 mi)).[2] Krishnanagar City is part of Kolkata Suburban Railway on the Sealdah -- Naihati -- Ranaghat -- Krishnanagar line. Journey time is 2½ hours and one can return the same day. Cycle rickshaws,buses(town service) are available for travel within the city.
Some of the Ghurni artists have studied in art colleges in France and Italy, but theirs is a talent passed down through generations. Kartik Chandra Pal prepared clay models of statues of Mahatma Gandhi and Rabindranath Tagore. Based on his clay models bronze castings were made and have found pride of place in Washington DC and Moscow and were inaugurated by Bill Clinton and Mikhail Gorbachev, respectively.

Ghurni ( ঘূর্ণি) is a neighbourhood of Krishnanagar in Nadia district in the Indian state of West Bengal. It is the centre for the production of clay dolls, often referred to as Krishnanagar clay dolls.
The old name of Krishnanagar was Rewe. In the early 17th century Bhabananda Majumdar founded the royal family of Nadia. Later, Maharaja Rudra changed the name to Krishnagar. In 1757, Maharaja Krishnachandra (1710–1783) helped the British East India Company against Siraj ud-Daulah in the Battle of Plassey. He was a patron of the arts, including literature and music, and supported the production of clay dolls.In 1728 he brought families of potters from Dhaka and Natore and settled them in Ghurni, then a village.

Krishnanagar in Nadia district has historic value.
Krishnagar, the district headquarter of Nadia in West Bengal, is famous for Jagaddhatri Puja festival, apart from Sarpuria and Sarbhaja, famous sweets, and world honoured clay modelling. It is said that in the year 1763 Raja (King) Krishna Chandra Ray started worshipping goddess Jagaddhatri in Krishnanagar for the first time in his own Royal Palace (Rajbari).

Ghurni is a neighbourhood of Krishnanagar in Nadia district in the Indian state of West Bengal. It is the centre for the production of clay dolls, often referred to as Krishnanagar clay dolls. Maharaja Krishnachandra (1710–1783), King of Krishnanagar was a great patron of the fine arts, including literature and music and supported the production of clay dolls. In 1728 he brought families of potters from Dhaka and Natore and settled them in Ghurni, then a village. In an article, the Bangalore-based newspaper Deccan Herald writes, “We have clay dolls, toys and even clay sculptures in different parts of India. But there has been nothing to match the clay doll artisans of Krishnanagar in the Nadia district of West Bengal. The creations of these artists are displayed in most of the handicraft museums of the world. In India, we have a large display of these dolls in the Shankar’s Doll Museum in New Delhi. One look at the clay dolls and we are amazed at the reality with which the artist has displayed the character of the model. A horse rearing to gallop to a placid dog licking its lips after a hearty feed. Krishnanagar clay dolls are unique in their realism and the quality of their finish. They truly represent a breakaway from the traditional form. Fruits, fish, insects, animals, birds, and of course the entire pantheon of Hindu gods and goddesses, and even the ubiquitous Donald Duck and other popular comic strip characters, faithful copies of real-life, down to the minutest detail. Realistic recreations of everyday life, work, mood and character- farmers, weavers, rag pickers, basket makers, umbrella makers - are all specialties of Krishnanagar clay doll artisans.

The Rajbari or the Krishnanagar Palace is a popular destination of the city and large number of people visit here to celebrate different festivals. The popular festivals of the Rajbari include the Jhulan Mela in the months of July and August and Holi or Dol during the month of March or April. The palace also has a temple devoted to Goddess Durga, located in the central courtyard, where Durga Puja is performed every year.

3. #Roman_Catholic_Church
There is a Roman Catholic Church located in Krishnanagar which is very popular for its grand architecture. The church has the display of scenes of Jesus Christ's life that are painted in canvas as well as many other wooden frescos made by Italian artists. There is also a Protestant Church, College Bhavan, the Public Library and Krishna Nagar Academy.
4. #Adhar_Chandra_Sweet_Shop
This place is famous for its sweets, specifically for sorvaja and sorpuria. These two sweets are must try in Krishnanagar.
5. #Shibnibash
According to legend, Sibnibas owes its origin to a dream. One in which Lord Shiva appeared before Maharaja Krishnachandra and told him that he was shifting base from Varanasi to his capital. To please the god, the Maharaja set up a new capital at Sibnibas and constructed 108 Shiva temples there.
The Maharaja christened the new capital Sibnibas, probably after the god. Some historians though claim that it was named after Krishnachandra’s son Shivachandra.
Only two of the 108 temples exist now. One of them houses the largest 'shivling' in eastern India. The two temples, along with a Ram-Sita temple, and the ruins of Krishnachandra’s palace are all that remain of Sibnibas’s glorious past.

This place is just opposite the railway station. The house is in very bad condition.
7. #Bathuadahari
Bethuadahari Wildlife Sanctuary is situated in the Bethuadahari town (Nakashipara area) of Nadia District, West Bengal, India. The sanctuary is located beside National Highway 34. The sanctuary covers 67 hectares, and was established in 1980 to preserve a portion of the central Gangetic alluvial ecozone.

8. #Mayapur
Mayapur is the headquarters of ISKCON and is very close to Nabadwip. It can be reached by crossing the Bhagirathi River by a ferry ride. The ISKCON temple is worth a visit and attracts a huge number of visitors every day. The place is located at the meeting point of Ganga and Jalangi.
Mayapur is a part of the nine islands of Nabadwip. It is a very popular pilgrim center for the Vishnavite which was founded by Bakti Vinod Thakur. Most of the temples of Mayapur are dedicated to Radha and Krishna.

এক সময় নদিয়া রাজা ছিলেন রাজা কৃষ্ণচন্দ্র। বিদ্যোৎসাহী, সংস্কৃতিবান হিসেবে তার খ্যাতি ছিল। তাঁর সময় মাটির মূর্তি নির্মাণের জন্য নাটোর (অধুনা বাংলাদেশ) থেকে শিল্পীরা আসতেন। এরপর রাজপৃষ্ঠপোষকতায় এই শিল্পীরা ঘুর্নী এলাকায় বসতি গড়ে তোলে। ক্রমশ কৃষ্ণনগরের পুতুল প্রসিদ্ধি পেতে থাকে বিশ্বের বিভিন্ন প্রান্তে। বর্তমানে কৃষ্ণনগরে প্রায় ৪০০ মৃৎ শিল্পী পরিবার আছে এর মধ্যে শুধু ঘূর্নীতে আছে ২০০ পরিবার।কৃষ্ণনগরের পুতুল প্রধানত মাটির দ্বারা তৈরি করা হয়। জলঙ্গী নদীর পাড় থেকে মূর্তি বা পুতুল নির্মাণের বিশেষ মাটি সংগ্রহ করা হয়। এরপর এই মাটি পুতুল নির্মাণের উপযোগী করে তোলা হয়। এই মাটি থেকে শিল্পী তার নিজের হাতের কারুকার্যে পুতুল নির্মাণ করে। প্রথমে পুতুলটি রৌদে শুকিয়ে নেওয়া হয় তারপর রং করে বিভিন্ন দোকানে বিক্রয় করা হয়[২]কৃষ্ণনগরের পুতুলের চাহিদা বিশ্বজোড়া। ভারতের বিভিন্ন প্রান্তে এই পুতুল রপ্তানি করা হয়। দেশের বাইরে প্রধানত ইউরোপ ও উত্তর আমেরিকাতে পুতুল রপ্তানি করা হয়।[২] তবে সরকারি তরফ থেকে এর প্রচার কম। ফলে এর বিপনন কম হচ্ছে। শিল্পীরা আর্থিক সহযোগীতা না পেয়ে বা উপযুক্ত প্রচারের অভাবে মার খাচ্ছেন[৩]। এছাড়া অনেক সময় নিম্নমানের মাটির পুতুল কৃষ্ণনগরের পুতুল বলে চালিয়ে দেয় অসৎ ব্যবসায়ীরা।তারাপদ সাঁতারা (২০০০)। পশ্চিমবঙ্গের লোকশিল্প ও শিল্পী সমাজ। কলকাতা: লোকসংস্কৃতি ও আদিবাসী সংস্কৃতি কেন্দ্র।
