Road Trip to Boston
From Connecticut, we traveled to Boston, one of the oldest cities in the United States, and the largest city in New England, as Boston is sometimes regarded as the unofficial Capital of New England. The city was the site of several firsts, including America's first public school, Boston Latin School (1635), the first subway system in the United States, and the first public library (Boston Public Library), publicly supported. BPL is the first large library open to the public in the United States, and the first public library to allow people to borrow books and other materials and take them home to read and use.
Our first stop in Boston was a visit to Henry W. Longfellow Historic Site in Cambridge. His home served as headquarters for General George Washington during the Siege of Boston, July 1775 - April 1776. However, at the time of our visit, the place was closed for spring break. Only the gardens were open.
From Longfellow's home, we went on a walking tour of Harvard University campus. Established in 1636 by the colonial Massachusetts legislature, Harvard is the oldest institution of higher learning in the United States, named after its benefactor, British-born John Harvard of Charlestown, a young minister who, upon his death in 1638, left his library and half his estate to the new institution.
A special point of interest to us was the Harry Elkins Widener Memorial Library, commonly known as Widener Library, the primary building of the library system of Harvard University. Located on the south side of Harvard Yard directly across from Memorial Church, Widener serves as the centerpiece of the 15.6 million-volume Harvard University Library system, the largest university library system in the world. Widener Library, commemorates Harry Elkins Widener, a 1907 Harvard graduate, who was a book collector and a victim of the Titanic disaster. His mother, Eleanor Elkins, made a $3.5 million donation to Harvard University to build a library named after him.
From Harvard Square, we proceeded to Back Bay, an upscale residential and commercial district distinct for its many landmarks---the must-see Trinity Church (for its Richardson architectural style imitated in Europe and Canada), the Boston Public Library, Copley Square, Gibson House Museum, Commonwealth Avenue and its tree-lined apartment buildings consisting mostly of dignified three- and four-story brownstone bricks, and the tallest buildings, such as the John Hancock and Prudential towers.
The day ended with a 20-minute trip outside Boston proper to Lord Wakefield Hotel Resort for our overnight stay.

African Meeting House Rededication Ceremony, Boston Part 2 Source
The African Meeting House, located in Beacon Hill, Boston, was built in 1806 by skilled African-American craftsmen, and was the center of Boston's African-American community for nearly one hundred years.
The building has been referred to as the Abolition Church, the Black Faneuil Hall, and a beacon on the hill. It has been utilized as a center for civil disobedience, a school, a rallying point for African-Americans serving in the Civil War, a sanctuary, a synagogue, and now a museum.
This National Historic Landmark opens to the public on December 9, 2011, after having been closed for restoration for six years. During the rededication celebration, held on December 6, 2011, numerous special guests told the stories of Frederick Douglass, Maria Stewart, William Lloyd Garrison, and many other voices that contributed to the abolition of slavery in the United States. Followed by a musical performance by Sweet Honey in the Rock. Presented by the Museum of African American History, Boston and Nantucket.
Part two of the ceremony includes (in order of appearance): MA Representative Byron Rushing; Marita Rivero, WGBH Educational Foundation; Muhammad Ali-Salamm, USDOJ; Stephanie Meeks, National Trust for Historic Preservation; Jerry Sargent, Citizens Bank; Richard Soden, Goodwin Proctor; Chelinde Edouard, insurance professional; David Garrison; June Hill; Jim Sumner; Regie Gibson, literary performer and educator; Cassius Cash, Boston African National Historic Site; Colonel Sterling MacLeod, 54th Massachusetts National Guard; Sweet Honey in the Rock; and Beverly Morgan-Welch.

USS Constitution Museum in Boston (April/Duben 2012)

A template for the control of heroin has been in place for a long, long time. Afghanistan supplies 90% of the world's poppy. The poppy trade seems to parallel US involvement intelligence operational starting in Vietnam, The Corsican Mob's involvement in the JFK assassination, South East Asia, Central America, Iran -Contra, South America & now Afghanistan. Jeffrey Gibson: Distinguished Alumni Lecture Series, 10/28/19
Jeffrey Gibson (BFA 1995) is a 2019 MacArthur Fellow. His artwork references various aesthetic and material histories rooted in Indigenous cultures of the Americas, and in modern and contemporary subcultures. Working in media ranging from painting to performance, Gibson’s use of both traditional Indigenous and contemporary materials translates into a unique visual language, such as a beaded punching bag and painted animal hide. Gibson explores the aesthetics of cultures in relation to his personal identity, cultural experiences, and meditations on history.
