Visit Gilgal Garden, Home of SLC's Sphinx - Uniquely Utah
Once the private sculpture garden of Salt Lake City resident Thomas Child Jr., Gilgal Garden became a city park in 2000.
Today, locals love and care for the park, and an increasing number of out-of-state visitors are drawn there as well.
The entrance to the park can be found at 749 East, 500 South in Salt Lake City. Summer hours are 8am to 8pm. Todd Tanner has more in the edition of Uniquely Utah.
Gilgal Sculpture Garden in Salt Lake City
In this episode, we visit one of the STRANGEST roadside attractions in the state of Utah. This place is FULL on strange sculptures created by Thomas Battersby Child, Jr.
Gilgal Rock Garden and Sculpture
Scriptural Rock Sculptures is a small public city park, located at 749 East 500 South in Salt Lake City, Utah. The park, which is filled with unusual symbolic statuary associated with Mormonism, notably to the Sphinx with Joseph Smith's head, was a labor of love designed and created by LDS businessman Thomas Battersby Child, Jr. (1888-1963) in his spare time. The park contains 12 original sculptures and over 70 stones engraved with scriptures, poems and literary texts. Gilgal Sculpture Garden is the only designated visionary art environment in the state of Utah. Uncle Craig is good with knowledge of the Bible and Book of Mormon.

Mylungpuppy is the channel of musician Ron Anderson.
I have been making avant-music for over forty years in a number of different projects; PAK, The Molecules, RonRuins, numerous collaborations and solo. I combine composition and improvisation exploring the regions where they intersect. Sometimes my music is brutal, but I’m not afraid of melody, in general my work is pretty much out there.
The main focus of my channel is music, but I also make vlogs on various subjects, cycling, touring and traveling, vegan food, rare vinyl LPs, audio field recordings, etc. Because not everyone is going to be interested in all the subjects covered on this channel, I have made playlists so you do not have to search through videos to find what you are looking for.
I try to answer questions and respond to as many comments as I can, any and all feedback from you is welcome.
I'm trying to make at least one or two new videos a week.
Strange Mormon Things at Gilgal Sculpture Garden | Wacky & Weird Places
We head back into Salt Lake City to check out a landmark for the history of Utah. This Is The Place Monument Park honors the people that helped settle in the Salt Lake valley and helped form the state of Utah. We follow that up with visiting the Gilgal Sculpture Garden. It's a really interesting place (and also very strange) hidden away in a neighborhood in downtown Salt Lake City. The brainchild of Thomas Battersby Child, Jr. Child used the garden to express his faith in the LDS church and teachings. It's a very interesting place to experience whether you know much about the LDS faith or not as we aren't totally versed in all the knowledge of the religion. Plus it has a Joseph Smith sphynx.

Mayor Becker discusses Cycle the City
Another exciting addition to Salt Lake City's ongoing Year of the Bike events, the new Cycle the City bike tour route includes wayfinding guides to Pioneer Park, Temple Square, Memory Grove, lower City Creek Canyon, the Utah State Capitol, Liberty Park, the Peace Gardens and the Jordan River Trail and goes past architectural gems such as the McCune Mansion, Salt Lake City & County Building and Salt Lake City Main Library.
In collaboration with Visit Salt Lake, the City has created a special route map and brochure, available at the Salt Lake Visitors' Center, local bike shops, and through downtown visitors' venues. The route is also highlighted on the City's new 2013/14 Salt Lake City Bikeways Map.

Places to see in ( Salt Lake City - USA )
Salt Lake City, Utah’s high-elevation capital, is bordered by the buoyant waters of the Great Salt Lake and the snow-capped peaks of the Wasatch Range. Downtown’s 10-acre Temple Square, headquarters of the Mormon Church, is home to the majestic, 19th-century Salt Lake Temple and the neo-Gothic Assembly Hall. The acclaimed Mormon Tabernacle Choir performs in the square’s domed Tabernacle.
Salt Lake City is the capital and largest city of Utah, with a population of approximately 190,000 (the Salt Lake Metro Area in its entirety has over a million people). It is one of the largest cities in the Southwest region of the United States, although its climate is more similar to the Rocky Mountain region. It lies in the Salt Lake Valley along the Wasatch Front urban corridor, located between the Wasatch Range to the east and the Oquirrh Mountains to the west; on the border between the Rocky Mountain and Great Basin geographic regions.
Salt Lake City is well-known as the center of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (also known as the Mormon church), although fewer than half of the city's residents are members. The city is also known as a base for outdoor recreation, including the many nearby ski resorts just east of the city which were thrust into the world spotlight by the 2002 Winter Olympics.
Significant neighborhoods in SLC include Downtown, the financial core that's home to Temple Square (the main headquarters of the Mormon church); Central City, the main residential area of the city, approximately 400 South to 900 South; Sugar House, a commercial/residential district with many local and national shops; Federal Heights, an affluent district to the northeast; The Avenues a historical neighborhood with many late 1800 and early 1900 buildings; University, the area surrounding the sprawling University of Utah campus and the adjacent VA Medical Center, Research Park, and Fort Douglas; East Bench or Foothill, a residential area bisected by the major arterial road Foothill Boulevard between 900 South and I-80; Capitol Hill, an affluent district just north of Downtown topped by the Utah State Capitol building; Rose Park a residential in the northwest section of the city; and Glendale a residential, primarily Hispanic district to the southwest, home to the International Peace Gardens. The benches are the mostly residential, upper-class communities constructed mostly along the slopes of the Wasatch Mountains on the east side of the valley, although they have recently been growing in the southern valley (the low Traverse Mountains) and the western valley (the Oquirrh Mountains). The east side is traditionally more affluent and conservative than the west side, leading to the expected cultural rivalries that you find in other cities with clear divides, although this divide is arguably less pronounced in Salt Lake City than in most major cities.

The Most Fun Train Shoppe in Salt Lake City (Wacky & Weird Places)
We continue our time in the Salt Lake City area by visiting The Train Shoppe. We had to come check this out and hear Justin Scarred's voice on their mine cart ride. They had another cute train ride and Cara's favorite an ooooooooold time shootin' gallery plus all the trains that you can try running. A very cool place to check out for the kids or just nerdy adults.
