RYA Scotland Annual Awards at the Glasgow Science Centre - Jan 2016
ailors from across Scotland received top honours on Saturday evening (23rd January 2016) at the Glasgow Science Centre as RYA Scotland recognised the achievements and outstanding commitment of Scotland’s volunteers, coaches, instructors, officials, clubs and performance sailors. Winners took to the stage in 10 categories to collect their well-deserved awards, from dedicated volunteers to International champions.
Glasgow Science Centre - Powering the Future
In December 2014, after working successfully together to equip Floor 1 (2001) and Floor 3 (2013), we were again awarded a design and build contract to now equip half of Floor 2:
Powering the Future focuses on the science and technology used to supply energy in the UK and highlights key issues that society is likely to face in the not too distant future. Through a series of over sixty interactive exhibits, arranged within five exhibition zones - The Big Picture & You, Manage & Control, Transmission & Storage, Harness & Transform and Use & Efficiency - visitors are asked how one can meet increasing energy demand reliably, at an acceptable economic and environmental cost.
It is the most ambitious exhibition of its kind in the UK. To develop the exhibition, scientists from Glasgow Science Centre gathered support from across the energy sector, united by a shared desire to engage the public in the energy debate. World Gymnastics Championships at Glasgow Science Centre
We are proud to be the official Science Engagement provider for the World Gymnastics Championships 2015.
From Friday 23rd until Sunday 1st of November, future Louis Smith and Beth Tweedles can test their skills on gymnastics apparatus including the balance beam and the parallel bars!
You can also explore you explore their balance, strength and skills with our BodyWorks on Tour exhibits!
Activities are free and will take place in the Atrium between 11am and 3pm.

At 127 metres high, the equivalent of over 30 double-decker buses, the Glasgow Tower is the tallest freestanding building in Scotland.
Take the 2.5 minute journey to the Tower cabin where you can enjoy unrivalled panoramic views of the city, the Clyde and the landscapes beyond.

Hello and welcome to Glasgow Science Centre, Scotland’s biggest Science Centre and 5 star VisitScotland accredited visitor attraction.
We aim to make science accessible to all and welcome visitors from all ages and stages of life. An adult must accompany children under the age of 16 at all times. Your safety and enjoyment is really important to us. Smoking is forbidden anywhere in Glasgow Science Centre, including e-cigarettes/vapourisers.
Scotland was once the shipbuilder to the world and the heart of its industry was sited on the south bank of the River Clyde in the Glasgow district of Govan. GSC is situated in this historic area of Glasgow and our ‘neighbours’ include BBC Scotland’s headquarters and several hotels including the Premier Inn, The Village hotel and the Crowne Plaza.
Glasgow Science Centre has 3 floors packed with nearly 400 interactive exhibits, a full dome digital planetarium which runs both presenter led shows and short films, science show theatre where the show is packed with live experiments, the live lab and IMAX cinema which shows 3D documentaries and feature length films.
The IMAX is managed and run by Cineworld – please check their website for subtitle information cineworld.co.uk/cinemas/glasgow-imax-at-gsc.
We have so much to do you’ll be here all day. There is also a café with lots of healthy choices, a café pod and an area to eat your own packed lunch, which are all located on the ground floor.
GSC is easily accessed via public transport. There are buses; trains and a subway stop all within a 20 minute walking distance of the centre, and a taxi rank at the BBC building. The car park has 462 parking bays in total with 28 for disabled visitors.
GSC is fully accessible for wheelchair users and we have 2 wheelchairs available for guest use. These are free of charge to hire, and are subject to availability. For further and more detailed information please see the ‘accessibility section on our website.
Hours of operation: from April to the end of October we are open every day from 10.00 – 17.00. During the months of November to March we operate on a different schedule, where the centre is Wednesday – Friday 10-3pm and 10-5pm Saturday and Sundays. Please check our website for the most up-to-date information.
