Glockenspiel House (German: Haus des Glockenspiels)
is a building in Böttcherstrasse street in Bremen Germany.
With its 30 bells of Meissen porcelain, the carillon
(Glockenspiel) chimes three times a day while wooden
panels depicting pioneering seafarers and aviators
appear on a rotating mechanism inside the tower.
The carillon in Böttcherstrasse consists of 30 Meissen
porcelain bells, which play a mixture of sea shanties
and traditional folk songs.The name Böttcherstrasse
derives from the coopers (böttcher) who used to live
and work there. Today, this narrow lane is home to arts
and craft shops and studios. At the start of the
20th century, Ludwig Roselius, a local coffee merchant,
began to buy up all the houses in the dilapidated
street. He then had it completely rebuilt, resulting
in a creation that is both homogenous and architecturally
remarkable. With the help of architects Bernhard Hoetger,
Eduard Scotland and Alfred Runge, Roselius – the inventor
of decaffeinated coffee – achieved his goal, turning this
pathway between the market square and the Weser river
into a street of houses designed specially to be of
architectural merit, in a mixture of art deco and
brick-built styles that has a special charm all of its own.
Roselius' principal aim was a return to traditional
Low German culture in language, art and crafts
The tower at the side of the building contains ten
wooden tablets depicting 'Atlantic conquerors' – explorers
who crossed the ocean by sea or air – which turn in
time with the music.
Every hour on the hour, from April to December, the
carillon delights visitors of all ages. It is an
important and charming component of the overall work
of art that is the Böttcherstrasse.

Today I'm in Bremen Germany visiting the Glockenspiel House. The word Glocken means bell and Spiel means to play. When you put the words together you get Glockenspiel, a group of bells played as an instrument.

The Glockenspiel House (German: Haus des Glockenspiels) is a building in Bremen in the north of Germany. With its 30 bells of Meissen porcelain, the carillon (Glockenspiel) chimes three times a day while wooden panels depicting pioneering seafarers and aviators appear on a rotating mechanism inside the tower.
The building which houses the carillon is located at No. 4 Böttcherstraße in Bremen's old town district. In 1922, the two old warehouses which once stood there were converted into a new office building for the Bremen America Bank, built by coffee merchant Ludwig Roselius and designed by Bremen architects Eduard Scotland and Alfred Runge. The gabled red-brick facades of No. 4-5 were built in Neo-Renaissance style.
Carillon of 30 Meissen porcelain bells. The revolving tower features 10 wooden carved panels depicting ocean crossings. 30 Meißen porcelain bells ring out in Böttcherstraße and play sailor and folk songs with their bright sound.
At the same time, ten panels rotate in the adjacent tower, dedicated to those explorers and adventurers who crossed the ocean, be it by ship or by air. The carillon delighted young and old and is an important and lovable part of the Gesamtkunstwerk Böttcherstraße.

In unique concert with these chiming bells was a rotating tower in the wall between the Glockenspiel and the Roselius Houses.
The thirty Meissen porcelain bells - blue on the outside and gold-plated on the inside - rang out for the first time in May 1934.

«Музыкальность» этому дому с 1934 года обеспечивают 30 колокольчиков из мейсенского фарфора, висящие между двумя его фронтонами. Первую половину года они звучат трижды в день (в полдень, 15.00 и 18.00), а вторую -- каждый час от полудня и до 18.00.
По соседству с колокольчиками находится вращающаяся башня. В определенные часы ее створки открываются и являют взору 10 деревянных резных панелей с изображениями планеты Земля и знаменитых первопроходцев и изобретателей, от скандинавов Лейфа Эрикссона Счастливого и Торфинна Карлсефни до немецкого графа Фердинанда фон Цеппелина.

Das Glockenspiel in der Böttcherstraße Bremen ist etwas ganz Besonderes: Auf 30 Meißener Porzellanglocken ertönen Seemanns- und Volkslieder. Dazu werden im drehbaren Turm 10 Tafeln mit Darstellungen von Ozeanüberquerern gezeigt.
Die Melodien des Glockenspiels wurden vom Bremer Kaffeehausorchester eingespielt.

Die Böttcherstraße ist eine etwa 100 m lange Straße in der Bremer Altstadt, die aufgrund ihrer Architektur zu den Kulturdenkmalen und Touristenattraktionen in Bremen zählt. Die meisten Gebäude sind in der Zeit von 1922 bis 1931 entstanden und hauptsächlich Ludwig Roselius, einem Bremer Kaffeekaufmann, zu verdanken, der Bernhard Hoetger damit beauftragte, die künstlerische Gestaltung zu übernehmen. Die Straße und ihre Gebäude sind ein seltenes Beispiel für die Architektur des Expressionismus. Von den Häusern können mehrere dem Stil des Backsteinexpressionismus zugeordnet werden. Die Böttcherstraße steht seit 1973 als Gesamtanlage unter Denkmalschutz.
