Bridal Veil Falls, Niagara Falls, New York State, United States, North America
The Bridal Veil Falls is the smallest of the three waterfalls that make up Niagara Falls. It is located on the U.S. side (in New York State); Luna Island separates it from the American Falls and Goat Island separates it from the Horseshoe Falls. The Bridal Veil Falls faces to the northwest and has a crest 56 feet (17 m) wide. Luna Island being very small, the Bridal Veil is similar in appearance to the American Falls, starting with a vertical fall of 78 feet (24 m), followed by the water violently descending the talus boulders to the Maid of the Mist Pool 103 feet (31 m) below. The total vertical drop is 181 feet (55 m). The crest elevation of the Falls is 508 feet (155 m). The Cave of the Winds attraction allows visitors to walk up to the base of Bridal Veil Falls. A pedestrian bridge crosses from Goat Island to Luna Island several yards (meters) upstream from the crest of the falls. The waterfall has also been known in the past as Luna Falls and Iris Falls.

Across the Niagara Gorge is the American side of Niagara Falls home the Bridal Falls and Goat Island. Many don't realize that not only can you drive across the border to the United States, but you can walk as well! This is quite an experience as you venture from one country to another. Upon crossing the United States border you will enter into the Niagara Falls State Park.
Niagara Falls State Park is home to over 400 acres of lush landscape and wildlife, the beautiful falls themselves, and many famous attractions. Niagara Falls is the collective name for three waterfalls that straddle the international border between Canada and the United States; more specifically, between the province of Ontario and New York state. They form the southern end of the Niagara Gorge.
From largest to smallest, the three waterfalls are the Horseshoe Falls, the American Falls and the Bridal Veil Falls. The Horseshoe Falls lies on the border of the United States and Canada with the American Falls entirely on the United States' side, separated by Goat Island. The smaller Bridal Veil Falls are also on the United States' side, separated from the other waterfalls by Luna Island.

Horseshoe Falls on Goat Island | Niagara Falls New York American Side
During our family road trip vacation, we stopped off at Goat Island in Niagara Falls, New York to see Niagara Falls. More specifically, Horseshoe Falls.
Views from Goat Island in Niagara Falls State Park
America's oldest state park, Niagara Falls State Park encompasses the whole of Goat Island, the piece of land that separates Horseshoe Falls from the American Falls.
Most visitors to the area will go to the Canadian side. However, as a Canadian, I believe that seeing the waterfalls from the New York side is a much better experience. The park is cleaner, less crowded and you can practically wash your hands in the waters at the crest of the main waterfall.
Included in this video are views from the often overlooked Three Sisters Islands. These are small chunks of land that sit off Goat Island in the rapid flow of the Niagara River, just above Niagara Falls.

Goat Island
Recorded June 24, 2012
Goat Island is a small island in the Niagara River, located in the middle of Niagara Falls between the Bridal Veil Falls and the Horseshoe Falls. The island is at the southwest corner of the City of Niagara Falls, New York. Goat Island has no residents, but is a popular destination for tourists visiting the falls on the U.S. side; it offers some of the most spectacular views available there, in particular at Terrapin Point. NIAGARA FALLS, NEW YORK | ADVENTURE (06-18-2018)
Niagara Falls is a group of three waterfalls at the southern end of Niagara Gorge, between the Canadian province of Ontario and the US state of New York. The largest is Horseshoe Falls, also known as Canadian Falls, which straddles the international border between Canada and the United States. The smaller American Falls and Bridal Veil Falls lie entirely within the United States. Bridal Veil Falls are separated from Horseshoe Falls by Goat Island and from American Falls by Luna Island.
Located on the Niagara River, which drains Lake Erie into Lake Ontario, the combined falls have the highest flow rate of any waterfall in North America that has a vertical drop of more than 50 metres (160 ft). During peak daytime tourist hours, more than 168,000 m3 (six million cubic feet) of water goes over the crest of the falls every minute. Horseshoe Falls is the most powerful waterfall in North America, as measured by flow rate.
The falls are 27 kilometres (17 mi) north-northwest of Buffalo, New York, and 121 kilometres (75 mi) south-southeast of Toronto, between the twin cities of Niagara Falls, Ontario, and Niagara Falls, New York. Niagara Falls was formed when glaciers receded at the end of the Wisconsin glaciation (the last ice age), and water from the newly formed Great Lakes carved a path through the Niagara Escarpment en route to the Atlantic Ocean.
Niagara Falls is famed both for its beauty and as a valuable source of hydroelectric power. Balancing recreational, commercial, and industrial uses has been a challenge for the stewards of the falls since the 19th century.

Niagara Falls, New York: Downtown Driving Tour (Including Niagara Falls State Park)
This driving tour video of Niagara Falls, New York starts at the intersection of Pine Avenue and Hyde Park Boulevard. After passing through Little Italy, we narrowly avoid getting on to the Rainbow Bridge to Canada before traveling through the tourist section and looping around Goat Island (Niagara Falls State Park).
Niagara Falls is, of course, a city across the Niagara River from the city of the same name in Ontario, Canada. The population now sits at 50,000, down sharply from over 100,000 in the 1960's. Evidence of this downslide can be seen at times in the video where blocks sit empty and overgrown where houses once stood.

Cave of the Winds - Niagara Falls / Goat Island - New York
This had to be one of most painful lines of the entire trip. Almost an hour in the direct sun. We almost left but I am glad we toughed it out. This was worth the wait and then some!
It is one thing to see the falls from above and a totally different thing to be right at the bottom and feel the power.
My tips -
- Buy your tickets ahead of time
- Go early - there are only two elevators which is a real bottleneck
- Sunblock, the lines to go down are in direct sun
- You will get wet so wear the poncho they give you (and don't put it on backwards like me)
- They give you sandles as well as a bag for your shoes - use them!
- Bring a waterproof camera

Description
At Observation Tower Prospect Point - Niagara Falls NY
The best location for a good view of Niagara Falls from New York side would be Prospect Point Observation Tower. The American Falls and Bridal Veil Falls are very close where as a portion of Horseshoe falls can be seen at a distance. The Maid of Mist Cruise starting point is below the tower and Hornblower Boat Cruise opposite on Canadian side. Bottom of Niagara Gorge is accessed by taking elevator down from tower. Tourists take a walk up towards Crow’s Nest to be closest to American falls. The Luna Island located between American Falls and Bridal Veil Falls can be seen clearly whereas Terrapin point on Goat island is a distant view. The Pay Binocular located near the edge of Tower is a plus.

Ships can bypass Niagara Falls by means of the Welland Canal, which was improved and incorporated into the Saint Lawrence Seaway in the mid-1950s. While the seaway diverted water traffic from nearby Buffalo and led to the demise of its steel and grain mills, other industries in the Niagara River valley flourished with the help of the electric power produced by the river. However, since the 1970s the region has declined economically.
The cities of Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada, and Niagara Falls, New York, United States, are connected by two international bridges. The Rainbow Bridge, just downriver from the falls, affords the closest view of the falls and is open to non-commercial vehicle traffic and pedestrians. The Whirlpool Rapids Bridge lies one mile (1.6 km) north of the Rainbow Bridge and is the oldest bridge over the Niagara River. Nearby Niagara Falls International Airport and Buffalo Niagara International Airport were named after the waterfall, as were Niagara University, countless local businesses, and even an asteroid.
