Goat Rock Beach - Russian River - Jenner, CA - 01/10/2016
The mouth of the Russian River after a few days of El Nino rains. Great to see a good quantity of water coming down again. Low tide is just beginning. Nice rip currents in the mouth as the river meets the incoming waves. Lots of feeding going on in those churning waters. Sorry for the shake. Video was taken with a DSLR and zooming isn't as smooth with that lens.

The Sonoma Coast
The Sonoma Coast AVA is an American Viticultural Area in Sonoma County, California, United States containing more than 500,000 acres, mostly along the coastline of the Pacific Ocean. It extends from San Pablo Bay to the border with Mendocino County.
The appellation is known for its cool climate and high rainfall relative to other parts of Sonoma County. The area has such a broad range of microclimates that petitions have been made to the United States Department of the Treasury Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau for the creation of sub-AVAs such as the Fort Ross-Seaview AVA, which was approved in December 2011.
This took about a weekend plus three different take off points to accurately capture the Sonoma Coast and Bodega Head.
Dillon Beach, California
Dillon Beach is a census-designated place in Marin County, California, United States. Dillon Beach is located 3.25 miles west of Tomales, at an elevation of 89 feet. The population was 283 at the 2010 census. Dillon Beach was named after the founder, George Dillon, who settled there in 1858.The area includes a public access beach, as well as a private beach resort, the only private beach in California.
The Estero de San Antonio State Marine Recreational Management Area is a marine protected area located 1.5 miles north of Dillon Beach. Like an underwater park, this marine protected area helps conserve ocean wildlife and marine ecosystems.
Eventually, Dillon sold out to John Keegan with the agreement that the beach would always be named Dillon Beach. Keegan platted the town, built the hotel which still stands as the store and restaurant (built of first-growth redwoods). Keegan also built cottages, one of which still stands along the road to the beach. Keegan ran a stagecoach from Dillon Beach to Tomales where it met the train. Keegan eventually sold the holdings to the Lawson family who owned it until the arrival of the Clines. The first post office at Dillon Beach opened in 1922. During the 1960s, Oceana Marin was developed north of town by John Keegan's grandson, James Keegan of Wells Fargo Bank and Henry Trione of Sonoma County Mortgage. Fancy modern coastal houses were built on the hillsides overlooking the quaint town of small cottages giving it a unique appeal.

Putah Creek Wildlife Area - Hiking Trail Near Sacramento, CA
Putah Creek Wildlife Area is an intermediate to advanced hiking trail that is 15 minutes away from Davis, CA and 45 minutes from Sacramento, CA.
This is by far one of my favorite hiking trails close to Sacramento. With three trails to choose from, each offers their own spectacular view of Lake Berryessa and glimpses of the Sacramento and Napa Valley. Visit during the Spring to enjoy a variety of California wildflowers, and be cautious when visiting in the summer due to lack of shade. Bring plenty of water and enjoy!
