Metamorphic Songs

Listen to Hayden: „Dorćol has always been a crossroads of cultures - this time German and Serbian Jazz meet head to head.”

Ode For All at the Goethe-Institut Cyprus
Ode for All is a participative choir project of the Goethe-Institut on the occasion of the Beethoven Year 2020.
-----
The Ode to Joy was composed by Schiller in 1785. Several decades later, Beethoven congenially set it to music in the last movement of his 9th symphony. Its core messages all men become brothers and Be Embraced, You Millions have been unifying countries, continents and generations on many occasions: for the opening ceremony of the Olympics, as a giant sing-along concert or as the European anthem.
If such a humanist vision was to be reinterpreted today, more than 200 years later, which musical expression would it convey? What would be the sound of this call which not only aims at brothers and sisters, but at literally everyone and which goes even beyond the sounds of Beethoven? What is the meaning of joy in the 21st century?
The composer Cathy Milliken has been exploring these questions together with the vocal coach Lucia Duchoňová in a participative choir project: In an Ode for all text and tune of the original work by Schiller and Beethoven are reinterpreted and developed further by creating new, collective sounds. The composers and creators of this new composition are six women's choirs from Bosnia, Turkey, Bulgaria, Serbia, Cyprus and Romania with entirely different vocal traditions. In this way, individual contributions are composed in Bucharest, Sofia, Nicosia, Belgrade, Sarajevo and Istanbul. During a joint working session, all of these creations will be merged into a collective musical artwork, which will premiere in Berlin, Germany on the occasion of the Beethoven Year. The Amalgamation Choir from Nicosia participates at the project.

Film Workshop Belgrad Doppelte Last 2014
Urban Incubator / Camenzind goes Belgrade
A new architectural magazine is being established in Savamala: Camenzind, a new Serbian journal covering architectural issues, simultaneously producing print and radio coverage and organizing public events in and about Savamala. The magazine will highlight Serbian authors and topics in national and international architectural debates.
The Serbian architectural and urbanistic discourse can seem isolated within the national and international context. Publishing a Serbian edition of the Swiss magazine Camenzind will contribute to changing this situation substantially. Interdisciplinary knowledge transfer between Switzerland and Serbia will also be created through an open platform for debate and by strengthening networks in Serbia and beyond.
At the center of the Camenzind's activities in Savamala is the new magazine, which will be guided by a local editorial board. The editorial board will produce a number of other media formats. In the course of 2013, four issues of the architectural magazine will be published, radio programmes will be broadcast on our own local radio station, and public events will be organized, such as lectures, discussions and workshops.
The journal will primarily focus on Savamala, but will also cover other topics and places in Serbia. Knowledge about contemporary and traditional Savamala culture, local and common knowledge lost and re-discovered, will contribute to critically and creatively reporting on the progress in the quarter. Camenzind will also seek to increase the visibility of Serbian authors and Serbia-related themes in the international community of architects and urbanists.
All activities conducted by Camenzind will be carefully documented and distributed locally and internationally in brochures (leaflets) and radio programmes in English and Serbian. By the end of the year, the team will collate an edition of collected material published by Camenzind and other interdisciplinary articles by local and foreign contributors.
Ana Đorđević, from Belgrade, is Camenzind's guest editor in Belgrade, taking charge of contacting authors, co-ordinating layout, press, distribution, internet content and services to visitors. Teams of students and graduates from university faculties will prepare salons, workshops, and journals. In the long run, the management of Camenzind in Savamala will be completely passed on to the Serbian project participants, fully localizing the project.

Freiraum Belgrade
We have wondered what motivates young people in Belgrade nowadays and where free spaces are to be found, if they exist at all. Is there a common bond that keeps this society together, connecting it with other societies? If that is the case, how is it designated?
Many citizens of Belgrade might say that this is not a happy place. However it is the place where all our stories unfold. Our love for this city is complicated and too often grumpy. Its poetry is mostly fragmented and its beauty unguaranteed. But because of that, it is only more exciting.
Belgrade residents: an artist, a writer, a philosopher, an architect, a musician and a conceptual artist together formulated one single question, executed in a film: Is happiness possible disregarding objective social circumstances or even in spite of them?
