Golden Gate Bridge | FULL BIKE RIDE - San Francisco
On this day (December 2018), I experienced a great bicycle ride in the city of San Francisco California (Bay Area). The bike rental that I used was called Blazing Saddles and I was able to check in with Yelp at the time, and receive 20% off ($64.48 total / Electric Bike / Full Day). Any bike rental location will do the job, but if I has to recommend a particle bike, it would be an electric bicycle. It make the ride smoother and more fun. All-in-all, it was a greater experience riding through Fishermen’s Warf, parts of Downtown San Francisco, Pier 35, and the Golden Gate Bridge to name a few.

12 Things to Know Before Biking Golden Gate Bridge
12 Things to Know Before Biking Golden Gate Bridge
Biking across San Francisco’s Golden Gate Bridge should be on everyone’s bucket list! It is a great activity the whole family can enjoy. We biked from Fisherman’s Wharf, through Crissy Field, Fort Mason, across the Golden Gate Bridge and into Sausalito, a quaint town in Marin. On this trip there were a few things we wish we knew before coming, so we wanted to share them with you to help you have a stress free journey!
1. Full Day Bike Rental
When biking across the Golden Gate Bridge, you’ll want to rent bikes for the full day. There are plenty of bike rental shops all around San Francisco and pricing range from about $30 USD - $40 USD per bike per day (standard bike option). We decided to rent bikes from Blazing Saddles and booked online to save an extra 20%
2. Bring Snacks + Water
For those of you who know me, you know I literally bring snacks with me everywhere I go. You will get hungry and thirsty at some point during this 8 mile bike ride and having snacks and water to energize you is a MUST.
3. Dress in layers
San Francisco weather is unpredictable, so dress in layers that you can easily put on or take off.
4. Hills
SF boasts some of the steepest hills in the world, and on this ride you will have to bike up three steep hills. But don’t fret, you can easily hop off and walk your bike up the hill.
5. Electric bike
If biking 8.0 miles doesn’t sound like fun, you can opt for an electric bike that will help you pedal when you get tired or help you up those steep hills.
6. Bring a backpack
The bikes you rent will probably comes with a little pouch to put your things in, but when you lock your bike up to and go grab a bite to eat you’ll want to keep your valuables safely with you.
7. Use your bell
Your bikes will probably come equipped with a bell. Use it. Especially when you are on the bridge itself. If gets crowded and a little ring is a nice way to tell someone you are behind them.
8. Bathrooms
If you are like me, I need to use the restroom quite frequently because I have a small bladder. On this ride, don’t fret because there are plenty of stops that have restrooms. One at Crissy Field, one at the info center before you get on the bridge and some in Sausalito too.
9. Take in the views
Relax and take your time.
10. Have lunch in Sausalito or Mill Valley
Mill Valley and Sausalito have great shops and restaurants. We ate at Napa Valley Burger Company in Sausalito and loved it! It feels so good to replenish after the bike ride!
11. Bike Parking
There are three designated bike parking areas in Sausalito. You must park your bike in these spots. The very first parking area you will see is by the ferry station. They charge $3.00 to park your bike, so we decided to bike a bit further down to the free areas. The aren’t as close, but still walking distance from the shops and restaurants and I like to save money where I can.
12. Ferry Tickets
Make sure you purchase your ferry tickets before jumping on the ferry. Our bike rental company had the ferry tickets printed out for us already, but if you didn’t get some, there is a ticket counter by the ferry line. They will not let you on the ferry without a ticket.
Those are all the tips we have for biking across the GG Bridge. We hope you get to have the opportunity to experience this iconic structure in a unique and fun way! Enjoy your ride and STAY CURIOUS!
Biking to the Golden Gate Bridge with Wheel Fun Rentals in San Francisco
In my latest episode of Danny Hauger Travel podcasts, I am exploring San Francisco, California! The city by the Bay has some of the finest attractions in the world, lined with historical significance and iconic sights. Biking across San Francisco and the Golden Gate Bridge had been on my bucket list, like many people around the world. Feeling the fresh Bay breeze blow by on two manually powered bicycle wheels seemed like the first ingredient in making a perfect day in San Francisco. Wheel Fun rentals offered me the chance to review their rentals on Danny Hauger travel podcasts, and I jumped, or pedaled, on the opportunity. I picked up my rental in a convenient location near fisherman's wharf. The friendly staff gave me several options to choose from. The intrigue an assisted electric bike will give me something to add to my to-do list for a future visit.
I strapped on the optional helmet and was on my way in two minutes flat. Convenient and courteous, I felt really pleased with how quickly I could check in and coast away. I rode down Fisherman's What'd toward Ghirardelli square. The weather was a cool, but not cold, 67 degrees just before 11:00 am. Perfect weather for October 1st, ahead of some expected rain. The down hill slopes felt awesome as I regained my bike legs after about a decade since my last ride.
I enjoyed seeing all of the runners, cyclists, and dog enthusiasts at Crissy Field. A clear view of Alcatraz reminded me of the history of the area, as did each passing historical landmark along the sides of the road. I admired the success, heritage, and respite the at San Francisco offers it's visitors daily. I rode alone, and had time to think about moments like this, where we pass through our own snow globes in quiet, and look to both sides as we roll on to our goals and individual lives.
My bike ride today allowed me to break my routine, to see an entirely new path of the city to me, and to gain dozens of priceless viewpoints.
Yes, I think this was one of my best San Francisco experiences. Wheel Fun allows any person, couple, friends, or family, to exercise their bodies and minds, and enjoy travel in the most iconic place on California. This is now one of my top 3 things to do in San Francisco,
The full episode will be coming soon!

Bike SF: Long ride around SF (San Francisco & Golden Gate Bridge)
2013-10-02 : From the FiDi along the bay to the Golden Gate Bridge over to Marin and to the Mission. 19.3 miles; 1 hour, 42 minutes.
(2019 updated ride: )
Route:
Start in 100 California coming out of the back (to a concert across the street) on Sacramento St, Front St, Clay St, Drumm St, Washington St, to the Embarcadero along the bay through Jefferson St along Fisherman's Wharf, Aquatic Park, Fort Mason to Marina Blvd and Mason St in the Presidio. Past bits of park closed due to the government shutdown along Crissy Field.
Over to and up Crissy Field Ave to the Battery East Trail (with another road, Long Ave, closed due to government shutdown) and onto the east side of the Golden Gate Bridge around 30:00 (the west, bike only, side is closed, due to the government shutdown?) wading through all the tourists to Marin County to turn around 40:30 and head back to San Francisco.
Off the Golden Gate Bridge back along Battery East Trail but Long Ave is closed and Crissy Field Ave is one way so continue further east on the trail (way-finding would be nice) along Lincoln Blvd. to the Patten Rd trail, and confusingly dumped back on Lincoln Blvd with no way-finding mechanism to know how to get back on it. Sheridan Ave, Graham St, Lincoln Blvd again which becomes Presidio Blvd to Lombard St and out of the Presidio. Lyon St, Francisco St which becomes Alhambra St on to Bay St, Van Ness St down to the Aquatic Park again and 1:12:05 over to run all of Polk St and 10th St and Potrero Ave southbound.
Loop around at Cesar Chavez because by this point it's time to head on back up to Southern Pacific Brewing: Potrero Ave northbound, crossing at 20th St along to Harrison St, 19th St, and on in to Treat Ave.

DAY VLOG | Bike Riding in San Francisco
I lived in the the Bay Area all my childhood and this is my second time renting a bike to go on the Golden Gate Bridge. This feeling is incredible! I recommend others to do this. There are two routes you can try:
1. Go through the whole bridge and pay for a ferry to get back to Pier 1. (4-5 hours.)
2. Cross the bridge half way and head back where you came from. (2-3 hours.)

TANDEM BIKING GOLDEN GATE | San Francisco, CA (USA)
San Francisco, CA | USA | June 2016
This was one of our favourite days on our trip. We'd never tandem biked before and we hired a tandem and biked across the Golden Gate Bridge before catching a sunset ferry back to San Francisco! So many beautiful views even if it was a little tiring! We ended up getting back to our hostel a lot later than we expected - we had to leave at 7am the next morning for our train - but it was definitely worth it!

San Francisco, California is one of our favorite cities in the world! We biked across the iconic Golden Gate Bridge to Sausalito, a quaint and charming town in Marin County. It was a scenic bike ride filled with many stops to take in the breathtaking views.
Biking across the Golden Gate Bridge should be on everyone's bucket list! We rented bikes in Fisherman's Wharf from Blazing Saddles for a full day. Then we made our way through Fort Mason, Crissy Field, over the Golden Gate and down to Sausalito. We ate lunch at Napa Valley Burger Company and rode the bike friendly ferry back to the city into Pier 41 for a short 5 minute bike ride back to Fisherman's Wharf.
We hope this video inspires you to visit California and bike across San Francisco!
