Monarch butterflis migrate to Goleta Butterfly Grove (also known as Coronado Butterfly Preserve) every November through February. They begin arriving as early as October and are usually gone by the end of March.

The Ellwood Main Monarch Butterfly Grove in Santa Barbara, California is one of the largest monarch sites in the U.S. Monarchs arrive in the fall and stay until spring. The trees provide the shelter needed by the monarchs to survive the winter.

Thousands of Monarch Butterflies In California. Amazing Nature Beauty!
Every winter thousands of beautiful monarch butterflies migrate to Coronado Butterfly Preserve in Goleta, California. It is an amazing experience to see them in clusters on eucalyptus trees at the Elwood grove. It is the largest Monarch butterfly over-wintering groves in California and 2012-2013 butterfly season Alex and I are lucky enough to live a couple of minutes away from this natural treasure! So beautiful!
Monarch butterflies can not survive cold winters, so they travel in masses up to 3000 miles to small groves along the California coast. How lucky are we to be able to see these spectacular creatures...

Hundreds of people came out to celebrate the return of thousands of Monarch Butterflies in Santa Cruz on Sunday. Some state officials were concerned that some late season storms almost put viewing season of these creatures in jeopardy.
