DEVILS HOPYARD HIKE / East Haddam CT
This is a 860 acre forest that I used to hike with family years ago. It has many views of the stream from Chapman Falls (at beginning of video), and a overlook of the land.
While the video is quick and with cheerful hiking music, there are legends of Satan spooking the Puritan settlers of the land. It was believed that the demon sat on top of the Chapman Falls like a throne and played a violin? People have reported seeing shadows, orbs, and even EVP's while hiking.
The Hopyard part is because there was brewery at one time in the area.
I found this out after the hike and editing the video, so I will have to go back sometime and see if I can find something spooky.
This is an edit of the same one I released this past weekend. I needed to censor my language and some graffiti on the rocks.

Scenic East Haddam
On Dec. 28, 2008, I took a trip to East Haddam, Connecticut to see a play at the Goodspeed Opera House. East Haddam is a quaint little town and the opera house (shown in this video) is a beautiful building.
BTW, the play I went to see was the stage play of Emmett Otter's Jug Band Christmas (based on the book and Jim Henson TV special of the same name) which runs from Dec. 7, 2008 to Jan. 4, 2009. And before anyone asks, I DO NOT HAVE ANY FOOTAGE OR STILL OF THE STAGE PLAY! (That would be unfair to those actors and stage crew who made this production possible.)

Creating Goodspeed's Artist Village: The first of its kind in the nation, its a dream realized
Goodspeed Musicals' dream of building an Artists Village is finally a reality. Seventeen new homes to be used for actor housing on the Goodspeed Campus in East Haddam, Conn. are complete. The new actor housing initiative represents the largest capital project in Goodspeed history with a total budget of $5.5 million dollars all of which were spent in-state. Eighteen contractors and twenty-six suppliers from the state of Connecticut, many located right in Middlesex County, were used for this green project. A total of 120 construction jobs and an additional eight Administrative/Managerial jobs were created. A project of this magnitude is certain to have a positive and long lasting economic impact in East Haddam as well as throughout the state of Connecticut.
BANKERS FOR DODD GOODSPEED OPERA HOUSE JUNE 28, 2009
THE FRIENDS OF CHRIS DODD hosted a hastily organized fundraiser for the white-haired icon of Connecticut politics at the Goodspeed Opera House located in Mr. Dodds home town of East Haddam.
Sunday afternoon, June 28, between performances of the musical, 42nd Street, Connecticut bankers and other friends of Dodd brought their checkbooks and pens to contribute to the senators campaign chest.
Directly across the street from the famous theater, another group of friends, but not of Mr. Dodd, made their presence known. The Dump Dodd campaign, a ragtag assembly of grass roots activists, brought attention to Mr. Dodd as they gathered a crowd of over two dozen supporters. Dump Dodders prefer to mock Mr. Dodd and often employ satire to get their point across.
At one point a passionate Dodd loyalist bounded over to confront the Dodd opposition. This reporter deemed his performance unsuitable to post on this web site. It is sad that sometimes the most highly educated people stoop to such depravity in defense of a lost cause!
As you see with the Dodd friends interviewed, they are treated with respect and their comments are unedited. Whatever your political leanings, we appreciate the right to be heard.

East Haddam Connecticut (CT) Real Estate Tour
Tour East Haddam, CT neighborhoods, condominium developments, subdivisions, schools, landmarks, recreational areas, and town offices.
East Haddam, Connecticut is blessed with an illustrious history, great natural beauty and rural character, its rolling countryside dotted by old farmsteads, lakes, handsome state parks and quaint neighborhoods. Once a commercial center because of its location on the Connecticut River, East Haddam is now primarily a residential and tourist town.
Many buildings essential to the old mill-town ambiance of East Haddam remain lovingly preserved, its highlights including the schoolhouse where Nathan Hale taught in 1733 and the Gelston House, a historic tavern dating back to 1736. The Goodspeed Opera House, located in East Haddam, is renowned for sending new musicals to Broadway. Historic homes, old stone walls that wind through the woods, post and beam barns and early American buildings stand as testaments to the early life of a trading and farming town.
Within East Haddam, the Village of Moodus was the site of a dozen water-powered textile mills during the nineteenth century and home to eastern European immigrants who worked them. Later, people seeking refuge from city life flocked to summer resorts in Moodus, several of which continue to operate today. Moodus is named for its famed Moodus Noises, strange audible rumblings that are seismic in origin and that figure prominently in Native American lore.
East Haddam is also home to the headwaters of the Eight Mile River, which runs through a greenway of protected open space. The Devil's Hopyard State Park protects the Eight Mile River as it tumbles over a rushing waterfall and through a hemlock gorge. The Salmon River borders the town to the north and is the site of a state project to restore anadramous fish to Connecticut River tributaries. Three lakes, Bashan, Moodus Reservoir and Lake Hayward, provide recreation and scenic beauty for all to enjoy.
SATURDAY IN EAST HADDAM, CT MAY 30, 2009
East Haddam is a beautiful town nestled along the east bank of the Connecticut River just west of Salem, south of Colchester and north of Lyme. On a warm sunny Saturday in May the river beckons.
Fisherman, sailors, jetskiers and kayakers frequent the public launching ramps along the river. This video shows some unique people doing what Americans do best - recreation and fun with friends and family.

East Haddam Bridge/Connecticut River ice jam Friday Jan 19, 2018
Here's a brief video of the ice jam that's affecting some of the low lying areas along the Connecticut River. Notice that the ice is quite literally 'jammed' between the bridge supports, the shore and the docks at the marina there. There's a whole lot of force pushing against the upper edges of the ice sheet that is being held together by compressive force alone with such little disturbance in the water itself. The U.S. Coast Guard was busy somewhere else along the river, presumably downstream as to prevent accidental flash flooding and will eventually make it's way up to the neck of the river to break up the ice and relieve the river of it's overburden.
Enjoy the breathtaking views of the Goodspeed Opera House, the Connecticut River, Harper's Landing and historic Haddam Connecticut.
