History: The Pilgrims Journey Documentary
Impacts of the English in the New World ( Pilgrims )
Some 100 people, many of them seeking religious freedom in the New World, set sail from England on the Mayflower in September 1620. That November, the ship landed on the shores of Cape Cod, in present-day Massachusetts. A scouting party was sent out, and in late December the group landed at Plymouth Harbor, where they would form the first permanent settlement of Europeans in New England. These original settlers of Plymouth Colony are known as the Pilgrim Fathers, or simply as the Pilgrims.

In 1620, the Pilgrims arrived on the Mayflower and made their first landing in the New World in Provincetown Harbor. The Pilgrims stayed in Provincetown, where they created and signed the Mayflower Compact. They then continued on to their ultimate destination of Plymouth, Massachusetts.

The Mayflower left from Plymouth, England, on September 6, 1620. After 65 days crossing the ocean, the ship landed in what is now the state of Massachusetts. Soon after, the Pilgrims signed and agreement called the Mayflower Compact. In it, the Pilgrims agreed to unite into a Civil Body Politic. The Compact did not set up a governing system, as the Constitution later would. It did, however, contain the idea that the people freely agreed to live under the government. The power of this government came directly from the people themselves.

It is the oldest municipality in New England and one of the oldest in the United States. The town has served as the location of several prominent events, the most notable being the First Thanksgiving feast. Plymouth served as the capital of Plymouth Colony from its founding in 1620 until the colony's merger with the Massachusetts Bay colony in 1691. Plymouth is named after Plymouth, South West England, United Kingdom.
Plymouth is the largest municipality in Massachusetts by area. The population is 56,468 according to the 2010 U.S. Census. Plymouth is one of two county seats of Plymouth County, the other being Brockton.

Outside the domain of V.C., and any semblance of familiar civilization they needed to form their own government: MAYFLOWER COMPACT

They served as a self-governed colony in all but name of England until 1686.
New Plymouth and the other communities that sprang from it, became the starkest examples of what became known as SALUTARY NEGLECT.
Salutary Neglect is the time period from 1607(founding of Jamestown, Virginian -1763 (French Indian War) where the colonies developed as unintentional virtually independent states, acknowledging allegiance to whatever authority of England, but made their own laws and traded with whomever they pleased, defending themselves without help from Great Britain.
As a pattern of colonial development -salutary neglect- seemed to break down into two phases-unintentional and intentional.
The unintentional phase developed between the early 1600s and 1720, and was demonstrated with the development of colonies like New Plymouth, Massachusetts Bay and Rhode Island.
The unintentional developed as a result of the internal political and religious problems England had as well as the commercial and military struggles which had taken place in Europe between England and other major European powers.
Starting with the Dutch in the 1650s up to the French and Indian War of l763, England was engaging a constant on-again-off-again power struggle with the different major
INTENTIONAL S.N. 1720-63
As a result of Sir Robert Walpole, who becoming the Chancellor of the Exchequer
Walpole believed that the great benefits England enjoyed as a result of colonial trade unfettered by Great Britain
The significance of this period is that it allows the American Revolution as an evolutionary process to take place. It is during this time that the colonists in Virginia, Georgia, New Plymouth and the rest of England's continental colonies were developing their own economic, political, social and cultural identity.
This new identity was a reflection of the new set of values and the new ways of doing things that led to the development of new institutions that were emerging from the colonies. This can be exemplified in several ways:
First by the colonial practice of annual elections of all officers--governor as well the colonial legislature--on a definite date. This practice became popular throughout the colonies and still survives in the federal government, with the election of the Presidents Senators, and Representatives on the same day.
