Private charters ranging from 2 hours to a full day!
The classic yacht Scout will whisk you away on a luxurious private cruise for up to 6 guests. Sail the spectacular waters of Grand Traverse Bay for a couple of hours or take the whole day and head over the horizon. Perhaps you’d like to drop anchor and explore Power Island. Scout is yours while you’re aboard. We cater this adventure to your wishes. Make the most of it!
Cruise the Bay
Scout’s sailing tours may be scheduled for 2 or more hours, to a maximum of 9 hours. We can accommodate up to 6 guests in a private group charter. We want you to think of the vessel as your personal yacht during the time you’re aboard. Our USCG licensed captain is ready to tailor the cruising experience to your particular preferences.
Our standard 2 hour sail will encompass lower West Grand Traverse Bay, while a full day cruise can potentially go as far as Suttons Bay or Omena. Are you looking for a memorable family adventure? Be a castaway for a day with our Power Island Package! This gem of Grand Traverse Bay is located six miles north of Traverse City, and is part of the Grand Traverse County Parks system. The island is uninhabited (except for the park ranger) and offers great hiking, beach combing, swimming, sunbathing, picnicking, and general relaxation. We will sail up the bay, drop anchor, and ferry you to the island for 2-3 hours of fun! We wrap up the day with a cruise back to “civilization.”
While aboard, you may participate as much, or as little, as you like. Sit back and relax or jump right in and help pilot this magnificent vessel. Take the wheel, set sails, and crank winches; we’re happy to teach you about sailing! Don’t forget to pack your bathing suits! If the weather is appropriate we have the option of stopping for a swim call!
During our cruise you’ll enjoy complimentary snacks and non-alcoholic beverages. In addition you’re welcome to bring your own alcoholic drinks aboard and stock them in our fridge. Feel free to pack a meal for the trip.
About Scout
“From the moment we met Captain Brett at the dock, to the moment we returned, it was an amazing experience.”
Scout is a classic Cabo Rico 38 XL. Built in 1988 on a mountain site in Costa Rica, this lively cutter combines vintage design lines with modern construction technology. From her graceful clipper bow and wood deck trim to a stunning symphony of honey-IMG_1048colored teak (all sustainably plantation grown) below decks she will take your breath away. Brainchild of legendary naval architect W. I. B. Crealock, this vessel has won a reputation for soft motion and stout offshore performance. Scout is licensed and inspected by the state of Michigan to carry passengers.
Whether you prefer sipping a drink under the shade of the cockpit Bimini top, lounging below, or stretching out to sunbathe on deck, there is plenty of room for your group. Scout is well stocked with complimentary snacks, fruit and non-alcoholic beverages. We even have Moomers Ice Cream in the freezer! There is also plenty of refrigerator room to store any alcoholic beverages you would like to bring aboard.

Traverse City (/ˈtrævərs ˈsɪti/ or locally /ˈtrævər.sɪti/) is a city in the U.S. state of Michigan. It is the county seat of Grand Traverse County,[6] although a small portion extends into Leelanau County. It is the largest city in the 21-county Northern Michigan region. The population was 14,674 at the 2010 census, with 143,372 in the Traverse City micropolitan area.
The Traverse City area is the largest producer of tart cherries in the United States.[7] Near the time of cherry harvest, the city hosts the annual week-long National Cherry Festival in the first full week of July, attracting approximately 500,000 visitors annually.[8] The surrounding countryside also produces grapes, and is one of the centers of wine production in the Midwest.[9] Tourism, both summer and winter, is another key industry. The Traverse City area features varied natural attractions, including freshwater beaches, vineyards, a National Lakeshore, downhill skiing areas, and numerous forests.[10] In 2009, TripAdvisor named Traverse City the number two small town travel destination in the United States.[11] In 2012, the city was listed among the 10 best places to retire in the country by U.S. News & World Report.[12]
Traverse City, like most of Grand Traverse County many other cities in the United States, is laid out in a grid plan. Major streets run east-west and north-south. North-south streets are named after people, trees, and geographical locations. East-west streets are named after numbers and people.
Traverse City has many fairly tall buildings for a small city. The tallest building is the Park Place Hotel (at 9 stories), although recently, many proposals have been made to build taller buildings. One of these was the River West building, which did not end up being built.
Traverse City has many beaches and public parks. A notable example is Clinch Park, a public park, beach, and splash pad. This park can be very congested during the summer months and especially during the National Cherry Festival.
Traverse City is a part of the greater Northern Michigan region. The city is the main inland port of the Grand Traverse Bay—a long, natural harbor separated from the waters of Lake Michigan by the Leelanau Peninsula, and divided longitudinally almost evenly by a narrow peninsula of tiered hillsides and farmland called Old Mission Peninsula.
The most prominent of the city's waterways is the Boardman River. Along with Boardman Lake, the river is part of the Boardman River Watershed. The Boardman's 287-square-mile (740 km2) watershed contributes one-third of the water volume to the bay and is one of Michigan's top-ten fisheries, with more than 36 miles (58 km) of its 179 miles (288 km) designated as a Blue Ribbon trout fishery.[19] It is also a state-designated Natural River.[20] Recently, a large project was finished on the Boardman.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 8.66 square miles (22.43 km2), of which, 8.33 square miles (21.57 km2) of it is land and 0.33 square miles (0.85 km2) is water.[21]
Castle For Sale in Michigan, USA
STEP INTO THE CASTLE AND step back in time to a home modeled after a fifth-century castle built near Nuremberg, Germany. The Castle was crafted during the 1920s in Jackson, Michigan, by the eccentric violinist Max Helmer. Helmer was the local Liberace of his day, a wealthy musician who inherited a large estate from his father, a prominent Jackson banker, Fred Helmer. Helmer fell in love with medieval structures while touring Europe in the 1920s as a concert violinist. The Castle was designed for seclusion, but enjoys beautiful views on one of the most elevated points in the area.
Builder C.J. Jorgensen crafted the tower using fieldstone from the surrounding region. More than 500 tons of rock and 300 barrels of cement were used to build the first five floors. Jorgensen used horses, nine helpers and a crane. The tower walls are 3-feet-wide at the base, and are tapered to the top. Beneath the structure is a customary castle feature, a dungeon, entered through a trap door on the first floor. The Castle has been renovated to seamlessly conjoin the old and the new, the pinnacle of which is the 3-story addition completed in 1942. This project added a great room, master suite, family room, and modernized kitchen to the property; thus, bringing the home in line with contemporary living while maintaining its historical charm.
A History of Family, Friends, Adventure and Escape: When the, then newlywed, current owners decided to move from the Detroit area to a more peaceful, slowpaced location to raise a young family - their wildest dreams couldn’t have prepared them for what they discovered.
The Castle they found hidden on the highest point of Jackson County in Lower Michigan (National
Geological Survey Market on-site) proved to transform both the place and their family in an almost magical
way. The unique setting in which to raise a family and the inherent responsibility to continue the fascinating
history of the property, proved to be a bonding experience and the quest of a lifetime for the current owners.
Early years at the Castle for this family were spent together pruning, clearing and landscaping the grounds for
year-round fun outdoors. Undertaking countless renovations and restorations, which transformed the property
from the original medieval vision of the eccentric Max Helmer into what is now a truly unique modern
home.

*** 42 Traverse Trail Review:
The 42 Traverse has been one the most popular mountain bike rides in the North Island for years. It is a great day’s adventure, crossing the Tongariro Forest from the tussock deserts of the Tongariro National Park and finishing at the village of Owhango. The 42 Traverse trail follows an old logging road through very remote, rugged land. Great for intermediate riders and above, this epic mountain bike trail is a mix of grades 2 through 4, but mostly grade 3. The 42 Traverse has some stream crossings and steeper sections that classify as Grade 4.
It’s best to ride the 42 Traverse from the south end at the junction of Kapoors Rd & SH47, 18km’s from National Park Village toward Turangi. Owhango has a lower elevation so making that your end point makes for a ride with more downhill overall. Be aware it is a 2 way trail and it is used by quads and 4WDs as well.
Allow 4-7 hours for the trip depending on your groups fitness and experience.
The first 6km of the 42 Traverse is along a fairly easy gravel road to the Slab Road Car Park. From there, the trail undulates for several kilometres before getting to some great downhill sections. The descent can be fast and slippery in places if you’re sending it. The largest climb of the 42 Traverse comes after the main stream crossing. From the top of that climb the trail undulates again for several more km’s and provides more smaller stream crossings. Eventually the 42 Traverse comes to Waterfall Bridge before reaching the remote Dominion Rd Car Park. Next is a fast descent on gravels roads to the Whakapapa River Bridge which has stunning views of the river and good swimming holes. From here it’s about 2km up the hill to Owhango and a well deserved rest.
Please be aware mobile coverage is very limited on the 42 Traverse and the weather can be changeable. Pick your day and pack first aid gear, warm clothes, food, and bike repair equipment. We take an EPIRB, on these more remote trips as well just in case.
Our aim is to continually improve these videos, so your thoughts in the comments below are always welcome. A lot of the gear we use bike and camera wise are listed below with links. If you are looking to purchase gear and want to support our channel please use those affiliate links.
