Granite Island, also known by the Ramindjeri people as Nulcoowarra,is a small island next to Victor Harbor, South Australia, about 80 km south of South Australia's capital city, Adelaide.
The molten rock cooled and hardened into granite. This happened about 480 million years ago. ... The granite that makes up the Island was formed about 10 km below the surface of the earth. The exposed igneous intrusive rocks of Granite Island have developed into a variety of fascinating shapes.
A shore-based bay whaling station operated at Granite Island in the 1830s.
The island also supported resident wallabies in the 1980s which captivated visiting tourists. The island is accessible across a causeway from the mainland, either on foot or by catching an antique horse-drawn tram. As of 2015, the private company Oceanic Victor intends to use the island as a departure point to ferry tourists to a new tourist attraction in adjacent waters. Tourists will be able to enter an aquaculture seacage where they will be able to swim with and hand feed southern bluefin tuna, and observe other South Australian marine species.

Granite Island Recreation Park is around 62 acres and is one of the most recognised ecological attractions in Victor Harbor due to its unusual granite formations with crashing white waves.

Fleurieu Peninsula - Victor Harbor (Granite Island)
The next in the series on the south coast of the Fleurieu Peninsula. This is a visit to Granite Island at Victor Harbor which gives some great view across Encounter Bay and Victor Harbor which takes in Goolwa and the Coorong.
Some of the video has come from the time before I changed over to digital and is footage taken DV format.

Granite Island, Victor Harbor
One of South Australia's most loved destinations, this film shows some of Victor Harbor's famous landmarks, such as the Granite Island causeway, the Bluff and Encounter Bay.
The film is an extract of footage taken by Laurence S Casson circa 1958; the State Library holds 48 film reels taken by Casson between 1934-1976.
