Temple where Japanese cat lovers gather
Gotokuji Temple Setagaya, TOKYO
If you love cats, especially beckoning good-luck Cats, then Gotokuji will be paradise for you. Maneki neko, or beckoning cats, are figures that many believe will bring good fortune especially to businesses. The Gotokuji story goes like this: During the Edo period, the chief monk at the temple had a favorite cat. A feudal lord passed by one day and the monk's cat seemed to be Waving at him to come inside. So after the lord entered the temple, the priest served tea but after just a few sips a terrible thunderstorm broke outside. Grateful to the cat and the monk for protecting him from the terrible storm, the lord donated land and rice to the temple, rendering it prosperous for a time. Or as Sigmund Freud once put it: Time spent with cats is never wasted. The temple is literally stacked with maneki-neko cat figurines, in case anyone doesn't get the message that Gotokuji is THE maneki-neko temple. Gotokuji claims that they originated here, and the neighboring businesses are happy to encourage this belief. Today beckoning cats are the symbol for the neighborhood as well as the temple. Meow!

TEASER #06 TRIP IN JAPAN : MANEKI NEKO SANCTUARY
Pendant deux semaines, tous les jours, c'est la fête, une petite vidéo filmé du Japon, lors de mon troisième voyage
My nanoblock Maneki Neko
This is my own nanoblock Maneki Neko creation. Visit for more.
The maneki-neko is a common Japanese figurine (lucky charm, talisman) which is often believed to bring good luck to the owner. In modern times, they are usually made of ceramic or plastic. The figurine depicts a cat (traditionally a calico Japanese Bobtail) beckoning with an upright paw, and is usually displayed—often at the entrance—of shops, restaurants, pachinko parlors, and other businesses. The maneki-neko is sometimes also called the welcoming cat, lucky cat, money cat, happy cat, beckoning cat, or fortune cat in English. - From Wikipedia

I wanted to release the video last year, however there were many complications involved (lost footage, broken hard drives, footage not good enough etc) and I wanted this video to be perfect! Some of the footage was filmed from up to 4 years ago, if you are wondering why I look so different in some of the footages haha. Really hope you guys enjoy this video, it took me hundreds of hours to film/edit so I hope it was useful!!
Big thanks to these people for helping me make this video happen:
