SEE IN FULL SCREEN....PLEASE READ: This stunning time lapse video is by geologist James St, John at Ohio State University. I have permission from him to use his footage for educational purposes. Not only does it show the beauty of this geyser, but I caught something interesting flying past as well! Could be a rocket launch? A Plane? Ufo? Just thought it was cool and would like to hear what you think! To see more of his beautiful films of the geysers go to his you tube channel....jsj1779!

Road Trip Day 5: Great Fountain Geyser at Yellowstone National Park
Our homeschool science family is taking a Road Trip around the US, and you're invited to join us! We did hands-on science experiments throughout the entire trip, and you can, too!
You can read all about our extensive trip here:
We continued our drive to the Great Fountain Geyser. We didn’t see this one erupt (thankfully), since it shoots up 100-200 feet high, lasting nearly a full hour of bursts. This geyser takes 10-14 hours to rebuild itself. As the pool slowly fills, you can tell it’s going to erupt because it starts to overflow 70-100 minutes before it starts.
Like most geysers the great Fountain experiences periods of irregularity but for the most part it's dependable.
Folks that are waiting for this display usually watch for eruptions of the White Dome Geyser that are along the same road.
If you got a kid who loves geysers and anything that explodes, make sure you do the Dinosaur Toothpaste experiment from my online science curriculum program. It's also part of the free live chemistry class that is announced to our science subscribers.

Minute Out In It: Fountain Geyser
You know you're living right when a visit to the Lower Geyser Basin coincides with an eruption of Fountain Geyser.
Watch closely and you'll see flashes of bright blue as steam bubbles explode and propel water from the crater (especially at the 50 second mark). Natural sounds only: no narration. Produced by NPS/Neal Herbert.
Grand Prismatic Spring, Yellowstone National Park, USA in 4K (Ultra HD)
The Grand Prismatic Spring offers one of the most stunning views in the Yellowstone National Park. It is the largest pool in the park and the third in the world. It is located in the Midway Geyser Basin and its major feature is its amazing coloration, caused by bacteria, living on the edges of the mineral rich water. The pool is about 370 feet/113 m in diameter and is 121 feet/37 m deep. Several smaller springs are located in close proximity.
This video was shot from two locations: from the nearby hill at noon, and by the spring in the late afternoon.
Recorded September 2014 in 4K (Ultra HD) with Sony AX100.

Great Fountain Geyser Sunset Time lapse at Yellowstone National Park
I'm going to be honest. This is my very first time lapse video. It was also an unplanned video. It just so happened that this sunset was so incredible behind the Great Fountain Geyser at Yellowstone National Park that I took well over 600 photographs and filled up two memory cards in the process. A thunderstorm moved in and directly hit us by the end of the photo shoot, leaving us running for the car for cover! While a bit choppy, it was a memory I will never forget! I hope this inspires you to visit the Great Fountain Geyser at sunset in Yellowstone National Park! For National Park tips and photographs, visit: vezzaniphotography.com

West Thumb Geyser Basin - Yellowstone National Park
The West Thumb Geyser Basin, including Potts Basin to the north, is unique in that it is the largest geyser basin on the shores of Yellowstone Lake. The heat source of the thermal features in this location is thought to be relatively close to the surface, only 10,000 feet down! The West Thumb of Yellowstone Lake was formed by a large volcanic explosion that occurred approximately 150,000 years ago (125,000-200,000). The resulting collapsed volcano, called a caldera (boiling pot or caldron), later filled with water forming an extension of Yellowstone Lake. The West Thumb is about the same size as another famous volcanic caldera, Crater Lake in Oregon, but much smaller than the great Yellowstone caldera which formed 600,000 years ago. It is interesting to note that West Thumb is a caldera within a caldera.

Mud Geyser, Hayden Valley, Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming, United States, North America
Hayden Valley is a large, sub-alpine valley in Yellowstone National Park straddling the Yellowstone River between Yellowstone Falls and Yellowstone Lake. The valley floor along the river is an ancient lake bed from a time when Yellowstone Lake was much larger. The valley is well known as one of the best locations to view wildlife in Yellowstone. The valley was the natural route to Yellowstone Lake as trappers, explorers and natives made their way up the Yellowstone River. On August 29, 1870 when Henry D. Washburn and Gustavus Cheyney Doane ascended Mount Washburn during the Washburn-Langford-Doane Expedition, they saw the great expanse of the Hayden Valley between Yellowstone Falls and the lake. In Doane's journal he described the valley as seen from Mount Washburn thus: a grassy valley, branching between low ridges, running from the river toward the center of the basin. A small stream rose in this valley, breaking through the ridges to the west in a deep cañon, and falling into the channel of the Yellowstone, which here bears in a northeast course, flowing in view as far as the confluence of the small stream, thence plunged into the Grand Cañon, and hidden from sight. No falls can be seen, but their location is readily detected by the sudden disappearance of the river; beyond this open valley the basin appears to be filled with a succession of low, converging ridges, heavily timbered, and all of about an equal altitude. To the south appears a broad sheet of water the Yellowstone Lake. Although its clear that the valley is named in honor of Ferdinand Vandeveer Hayden and his geological surveys of the Yellowstone region (his 1871 survey led to the creation of the park), there is little definitive evidence as to who actually named the valley. Some credit the Earl of Dunraven, during his visit in 1872, but the name first appeared on maps in 1880 in an annual report from superintendent Philetus Norris. The Hayden valley is approximately 7 miles (11 km) long north to south and 7 miles (11 km) wide east to west and occupies about 50 square miles (130 km2) of the park. It lies mostly the west of the Yellowstone River between Canyon and Yellowstone Lake. The Canyon to Lake section of the Grand Loop Road follows the eastern side of the valley near the river. The geothermal features that are scattered around the valley are not as impressive as those of the large geyser basins, but in many case they were the first to be discovered and described by the early explorers. They include Mud Volcano, Mud Geyser, Sulphur Caldron, and Black Dragon Caldron at the southern end of the valley and Sulphur Spring in the Crater Hills group further north and west of the river. The Hayden Valley is outstanding wildlife habitat and is frequented by buffalo, elk, grizzly bears, coyote and a host of smaller mammals and birds. To protect this habitat and prevent disturbing wildlife, the valley is closed to off-trail foot travel. Two trails make the valley accessible for hikers the Hayden Valley trail and the Mary Mountain trail. The valley trail parallels the river on the eastern side of the valley from Lake to Canyon, while the Mary Mountain trail skirts the northern edge of the valley along Alum Creek on its way to the Canyon-Lake road. All the rivers, creeks and ponds in the valley are closed to fishing.

Fountain Paint Pot @ Yellowstone National Park Wyoming USA 1
Nature at its best at Yellowstone National Park in the Unites states. It's a Wonderland. Old Faithful and the majority of the world's geysers are preserved here. They are the main reason the park was established in 1872 as America's first national park—an idea that spread worldwide. A mountain wildland, home to grizzly bears, wolves, and herds of bison and elk, the park is the core of one of the last, nearly intact, natural ecosystems in the Earth’s temperate zone. In this Video natural Sulphuric Acid breaks down rocks into Mud.
