Great St Bernard Pass Mountain Road. Cinematic 4K Drone Video
The Great St Bernard Pass (French: Col du Grand St-Bernard, Italian: Colle del Gran San Bernardo, German: Grosser Sankt Bernhard) is the third highest road pass in Switzerland, bordering with Italy. As high as 2,469 m (8,100 ft)), It connects Martigny in the canton of Valais in Switzerland with Aosta in the region Aosta Valley in Italy. It is the lowest pass lying on the ridge between the two highest mountains of the Alps, Mont Blanc and Monte Rosa.
The pass is one of the most ancient passes through the Western Alps, with evidence of use as far back as the Bronze Age and surviving traces of a Roman road. In 1800, Napoleon's army used the pass to enter Italy. Having been bypassed by easier and more practical routes, particularly the famous Great St Bernard Tunnel which opened in 1964, its value today is mainly historical and recreational.
Straddling the highest point of the road, the Great St Bernard Hospice was founded in 1049. The hospice later became famous for its use of the well known St Bernard dogs in rescue operations.
The pass runs northeast-southwest through the Valais Alps.
View of the pass towards the Italy-Switzerland border.
A hospice for travellers was founded in 1049 by Saint Bernard of Menthon and came to be named after him in the 16th century, along with the pass. It was not the first hospice in the pass. Buildings were probably there since the Roman times, but the region was not secure and they were destroyed many times. The first concern of the founder of the current monastery was to clear the region of bandits and keep the pass safe for travellers, the role of rescuers developing naturally. The hospice later became famous for its use of St Bernard dogs in rescue operations. Pope Pius XI confirmed Bernard as patron saint of the Alps in 1923.

A Homage to Matt Monro | On Days Like These | The Italian Job (2019)
An aerial homage to The Italian Job (1969) featuring the epic Matt Monro singing On Days Like These.
Original Music by the legendary Quincy Jones and lyrics by Don Black.
Matt Monro (1 December 1930 -- 7 February 1985) was an English singer who became one of the most popular entertainers on the international music scene during the 1960's.
The Italian Job is a 1969 British caper film, written by Troy Kennedy Martin, produced by Michael Deeley and directed by Peter Collinson.
The soundtrack was composed by Quincy Jones.
Quincy Jones (better-known for his production of several Michael Jackson records, and has worked with stars such as Frank Sinatra and Ella Fitzgerald) was handed the task of producing the music score for The Italian Job as director Peter Collinson wanted to give the pennyless musician a chance.
Apparently Quincy had no job, no money and he and his wife were expecting a baby, but he was talented. So producer Michael Deeley brought Quincy and his family over to England and set then up in a flat in Marble Arch and was commissioned hired.
The production team were worried about the last few minutes of the film as the editing was a little choppy and Quincy was credited in saving the film by creating a music score that pulled it all together.
Highly regarded lyricist Don Black wrote the lyrics for the two vocal tracks on the score - On Days Like These and Get a Bloomin' Move On. Matt Monroe sang On Days Like These as he was working with Don Black at the time.
This magnificent opening scene of the film was shot with star of Italian cinema, Rossano Brazzi, at the wheel of a Lamborghini Miura which, probably, was hired from or supplied by the factory to shoot this sequence.
The Lamborghini Miura made its first appearance at the 1965 Turin Motor Show when mid-engined road cars were nearly unheard of and it caused something of a sensation. The version used in the film is the first version, the P400 which was produced from 1966-69.
The Great St Bernard Pass (French: Col du Grand St-Bernard, Italian: Colle del Gran San Bernardo, German: Grosser Sankt Bernhard) is the third highest road pass in Switzerland, bordering with Italy. Lyrics On days like these
Questi giorni quando vieni il belle sole
la la la la la-la-la-la la la la la
On days like these when skies are blue and fields are green
I look around and think about what might have been
And then I hear sweet music float around my head
As I recall the many things we left unsaid
It's on days like these that I remember
Singing songs and drinking wine
While your eyes played games with mine
On days like these I wonder what became of you
Maybe today you are singing songs with someone new
I'd like to think you're walking by those willow trees
Remembering the love we knew on days like these
It's on days like these that I remember
Singing songs and drinking wine
While your eyes played games with mine
On days like these I wonder what became of you
Maybe today you are singing songs with someone new
Questi giorni quando vieni il belle sole
la la la la la-la-la-la ....

We Drove 3000 Miles Around Europe In 2 Weeks! (Euro3000) | GoPro & DJI Mavic Pro
The ultimate european summer road trip covering 3000 miles start to finish with two Mini Cooper S sports cars.
We covered a huge distance through 10 different countries over a period of two weeks. We passed through France, Belgium, Luxembourg, Germany, Austria, Italy, Slovenia, Croatia, Monaco, and finally Switzerland.
The DJI Mavic Pro has to be the best drone for the money and really was the cherry on the cake for this edit.
We drove from Calais to Luxembourg City. Then to the black forest where we walked to a waterfall. We drove from the black forest to Austria and then across the Stelvio pass in to Italy. In Italy we took a ride down a mountain on a Fun Bob near the dolomite's. Italy through to Slovenia and Lake Bled where we took a rowing boat over to the island. Our longest drive was down to the coast road in to Croatia where we stayed the night and took a 'SNAV' ferry across to Ancona in Italy. That night we stayed on a fabulous vineyard. From the Vineyard we drove up to Maranello where we took some time to look around the Ferrari museum and then the Museo Casa Enzo Ferrari in Modena. We then moved on to Monaco which was fantastic. The Monaco grand prix stands and seating were being taken down. We then drove route napoleon up to Gap where we stayed on a castle. On from there we stayed just outside val d'isere in a chalet before we went over the great st.bernard pass around Mont Blanc. Switzerland up to Reims where we visited Circuit de Reims-Gueux which was the old race track. We then headed home on the Euro Tunnel the following day.
The Stelvio Pass is a mountain pass in northern Italy, at an elevation of 2,757 m above sea level. It is the highest paved mountain pass in the Eastern Alps, and the second highest in the Alps, just 13 m below France's Col de l'Iseran.
Great St. Bernard Pass is the third highest road pass in Switzerland. It connects Martigny in the canton of Valais in Switzerland with Aosta in the region Aosta Valley in Italy.
The Route Napoléon is the route taken by Napoléon in 1815 on his return from Elba. It is now concurrent with sections of routes N85, D1085, D4085, and D6085.

Martigny (German Martinach) sometimes also Octodure in French) is the capital of the French-speaking district of Martigny in the canton of Valais in Switzerland. It lies at an elevation of 471 meters, and its population is approximately 15000 inhabitants (Martignerains or Octoduriens). It is a junction of roads joining Italy, France and Switzerland. One road links it over the Great St. Bernard Pass to Aosta (Italy), and the other over the col de la Forclaz to Chamonix (France). In winter, Martigny is appreciated for its numerous nearby Alp ski resorts such as Verbier.
Lac d'Emosson is a reservoir in the canton of Valais, Switzerland. It is located in the municipalities of Salvan and Finhaut. The closest major city in Switzerland is Martigny. The lake has a surface area of 3.27 km² and an elevation of 1,930 m. The maximum depth is 161 m.
The first dam of Emosson (also known as Barberine Dam) was built in 1925. The current dam with a height of 180 m was completed in 1974 and floods the old dam. It increased the reservoir's volume from 40 mio m³ to 227 mio m³. The old dam can still be seen when the water level in the Lac d'Emosson is very low.
Grimentz is a village in the district of Sierre in the Swiss canton of Valais. An independent municipality before, it merged on 1 January 2009 with neighboring Ayer, Chandolin, Saint Jean, Saint-Luc and Vissoie to form the municipality of Anniviers.
Grimentz lies at 1620m altitude above sea level.
The village lies in the Val d'Anniviers in the Pennine Alps.
To reach the dam a funicular railway is used, which is the steepest 2-cabin funicular railway in the world with a gradient of 87 percent. Lac de Moiry is a reservoir completed 1958. Lac des Autannes is located at an elevation of 2,686 m (8,812 ft)
Leukerbad (French: Loèche-les-Bains, Walliser German: Leiggerbad) is a municipality in the district of Leuk in the canton of Valais in Switzerland.
The history of the springs of Leukerbad dates back to the Roman times. People, even then, were already aware of the therapeutic effect of the thermal water.
Today, 3.9 million litres of thermal water - up to 51°C - flow from the springs and feed 22 thermal pools. Several baths are at the disposal of the guests in private hotels, in the Rehabilitation centre and in the Volksheilbad , but the biggest public baths are the Burgerbad and the Lindner Alpentherme.
Saas-Fee is the main village in the Saastal or the Saas Valley and is a municipality in the district of Visp in the canton of Valais in Switzerland. The villages in its neighborhood are Saas-Almagell, Saas-Grund and Saas-Balen.
Summer ski area in Mittelallalin
Its location close to the glaciers of the Dom and the Allalinhorn provides winter sport opportunities throughout the year, and neighbouring peaks such as the Weissmies, the Nadelhorn and the Lenzspitze are popular climbs in the summer season. The community is considered to be a very attractive winter sport destination in the Swiss Alps. Typical activities include skiing, carving, snowshoe trekking, canyon climbing and ice climbing.
Saas-Fee offers 22 lifts, including 3 cable cars, 1 funicular railway(Metro Alpin), 5 gondolas (1 dedicated to walkers), 2 chairlifts, the remainder being surface lifts (draglifts). The ski run has a vertical drop of 1,800 m (5,906 ft), a top elevation of 3,550 m (11,647 ft) and covers 100 km (30 km beginner, 45 km intermediate, 25 km advanced). Other activities include snowboarding (halfpipe and park), paragliding, hang gliding, and tobogganing.
