Sri Lanka 24: MIRACLE REMEDIES? (Surathura Spice Garden)
☼ ALL INFO HERE ☼
Our drivers brought us to Surathura Spice Garden on our road from Negombo to Kandy. We got a little tour of the place and some explanations of miraculous cures and remedies that they make from spices and herbs. The tour was about half an hour and finished in their shop (which was really expensive so we didn't buy anything).
I guess if you happen to be in the area you can visit but it's not something I recommend to go out of your way to do.

Homegardens- Looking back at tradition for a greener future in Sri Lanka
Homegardens in Sri Lanka are among the oldest land use activity, next to shifting cultivation. The construction of a house and its surroundings, termed as “vasthu”, date back to a period of 6,000 years. Homegardens are defined as a sustainable land use system that combines agroforestry with livestock to yield a wide range of goods including fruits, vegetables, spices, medicine, timber, fodder and livestock products. In addition to providing food security and income generation opportunities, they also bring environmental benefits. Recently, they have been targeted as a specific policy to curb climate change under Sri Lanka's National REDD+ Investment Framework and Action Plan, a five-year environmental strategy (2018-2022).

So much to say about this underrated & unbelievably beautiful Country, Sri Lanka truly is like nowhere else...
I began in Negombo, as its closest to the airport. Negombo isnt particularly the most exciting place in Sri Lanka, however it does offer a wide range of accommodations & restaurants to help start the trip. Many small supermarkets, local stalls, a few temples, restaurants & of course my highlight which was the old fish market, which is along side the beach offering local food, groceries, clothing & gifts. Colombo is just south of Negombo, it is also the largest city in Sri Lanka however not the most exciting.
Negombo Highlights:
-Fish Market
-Dutch Fort
-Few Temples
-Beaches
Day two: I headed east to Dambulla, were I stayed in a glamping resort which was a fantastic experience. Highlights in Dambulla was the scenic Sigiriya Rock Fortress, followed by an unforgettable authentic local village experience.
Dambulla Highlight:
-Sigiriya Rock Fortress
-Local Village Experience
Heading south of Dumbulla towards Kandy, stopping at a spice garden then onto the Temple of the Tooth. Both a must do when visiting Dambulla.
Possibly one of my favourite experiences on this trip, exploring the stunning green tea plantations, learning how to pick and operate Sri Lanka's largest export. Then onto one of the World's most scenic Train experience, exceeded all expectations & truly was unforgettable, a must do when visiting Sri Lanka.
I'd say Ella & Mirissa is where you'd want to allocate most of your time. So much to see & do, obviously much more touristy than Negombo & Dambulla as it has the main sites which are centrally located.
Next up was a beautiful and surprisingly easy hike. Little Adams Peak. 10 minutes from Ella township, offers an unbelievably beautiful view of the surrounding mountains, free entrance and isnt a difficult hike. Takes 30 minutes and you'll only need an hour at most on the top.
They also offer zip lining & archery on the way up. Yet another amazing experience, the Nine Arches Bridge. Very touristy but for a great reason, again only a short walk from Ella town centre. Something to take into account is the timing of when the trains will go past. The trains in Sri Lanka are unpredictable and almost always late, they don't operate frequently so either time your visit or stay for a long time and get that perfect picture. Leaving Ella, passing through a beautiful waterfall and also enjoying the amazing surrounding scenery.
Fun fact, Sri Lanka offers the second best Safari in the world, just under Africa..
And yes, truly a unforgettable experience, seeing Elephants, water buffalo's, countless birds and many more other beautiful animals in there natural habbitate.
Making my way to Tallala where I stayed in a Eco retreat which offered such a comfortable, clean and exciting resort.
Spent the day enjoying the warm weather by the pool, then the beach followed by a relaxing & mindful yoga session.
Heading to the vibrate Mirissa, aka the best beaches in Sri Lanka. Offering such amazing vibes, waves and experiences.
Managed to catch 3 waves in a short, with an amazing surfing lesson on Welligama Beach.
Saving the best for last, something possibly a little difficult to come by, but managed to spend a memorable morning with young monks, learning about their beliefs, routine and lifestyle. We spoke, laughed and taught each another our languages.
So, that was all within 11 days..
Managed to experience so much of the rich culture Sri Lanka offers within such a short time frame. Friendly faces everywhere I went, safe, positive vibes and unforgettable experiences. Sri Lanka truly is a Country worth visiting, it is very accommodating for all culture's & tourist, budget friendly and honestly has so much to offer.

Free Massage - Happy End to my Sri Lanka Trip ????????
I arrived at Sri Lanka's CMB airport (which is actually in Negombo, rather than Colombo) with three hours to spare until my flight. As I was flying business class with SriLankan Airlines I was able to use the facilities in their Serendib business class lounge.
It was rather crowded, as some lounges get these days. This is because airlines allow not only business class passengers but also those with medium to high frequent flier status who are flying in economy. I've made use of that benefit dozens of times so I certainly cannot complain.
The highlight of the lounge, with the delicious Danish Pudding coming a close second, was the complimentary 15 minute massage in their spa. Another cool feature was the virtual reality headsets and the quiet sleeping area. I combined both of those things to lie back and enjoy a movie.
(CMB - BKK). My flight to Bangkok was enjoyable, especially as I had an empty seat next to me but I was very disappointing that there was no in-flight entertainment system on a 3hr20 minute flight in a business class seat. Very poor in my opinion.
And this is where you get the benefit of me actually paying for my seat rather than the vloggers who do sponsored videos. I tell you both the good and the bad with no agenda. I just show you what is real, what really happens, what I really think and that's it.

Sri Lanka | explore the wonderland
A landmark destination in the ancient Spice Trail, Sri Lanka is bursting with wonder. This tropical island is famous for its diverse landscape: from the blue coastal belt to green mountains within just hours of each other, and the island's lush greenery ranging from coconut palm groves to paddy fields and tea plantations, embellished by over 200 natural waterfalls. It is blessed with a rich culture and a recorded civilization that spans as far back as 380 BC. The advent of Buddhism during the 3rd Century BC brought the rich aspect of ancient civilizations to Sri Lanka which in turn helped to form the great kingdoms with their magnificent dagobas, (relic chambers) –one which is taller than the third Pyramid of Giza and another which is the largest stupa in the whole Buddhist world - colossal monuments, pleasure gardens, art and architecture.
Spices, sapphires and elephants have been synonymous for centuries with Sri Lanka, previously
known as Ceylon. The unique location of the island in the Indian Ocean once served as a hub for trading: aromatic cinnamon (the best in the world), cardamom, nutmeg and pepper were plentiful and the natural sparkle of gems with their multitude of hues, iconic to their colourful land, were amongst the natural exports. The country lured traders and colonisers from the west which resulted in the Portuguese, the Dutch and the British governing the island for over 150 years from the 16th century. This resulted in the island being called the Pearl of the Indian Ocean.
Colombo, the present commercial capital, is an interesting blend of varying influences and is over 600 years old. Almost one million out of the entire 20 million strong population of Sri Lanka resides in Colombo, and the country prides itself on having one of the highest literacy rates in Asia. The people of Sri Lanka are of diverse races and faiths, with the majority being Sinhalese who are mainly Buddhists but who harmonize with the Tamils, Muslims, Burghers and other ethnic groups. Although well on the road to modernization, the country and its people still cherish their traditional values and take pride in their rich culture, an aspect that continues to attract visitors.
