Green Mosque and Mausoleum in Bursa City, Turkey 2019
In this video I am walking to the Green Mosque and the Green Tomb in Bursa. It is worth to visit this part of the city Bursa, because of the Yeşil Camii (Green Mosque) which was built by Sultan Mehmet I and his Mausoleum. His grave, actually a tomb (Yeşil Türbe) is near the mosque. When I went from Istanbul for a meeting to the city Bursa and had also a overnight, I took 2 hours of free time to explore at least 2 places in Bursa. The first place was the Ulu Mosque and the Grand Bazaar, the Emir Han, Uzunçarşı and Koza Han (Silk Market). I made also a video of the Markets and the Bazaar of video which you can also watch)
Sultan Mehmet I. also known as Çelebi Sultan Mehmed (1379 – 1421) is buried in Bursa, in a mausoleum erected by himself near the mosque. Because of its decorations of green glazed tiles, it is called the Green Mosque and the Green Mausoleum.

Bursa Yeşil camii (The Green Mosque and Green Tomb)
Bursa Yeşil Camii ve Yeşil türbe, Bursa'da ilk dönem Osmanlı mimarisinin önemli örnekleri arasında yer alan bir tarihi yapı.Caminin ünü, çini kaplamalarından gelir.
Yeşil Camii, Çelebi Mehmet tarafından aynı zamanda hükümet konağı olarak inşa edilmiş iki katlı, iki kubbeli görkemli bir yapıdır.[
Cami, ters T planlıdır. Kronolojik sıraya göre bu plandaki yapıların, Orhan Gazi Camii ile Yıldırım Camii'den sonra üçüncüsüdür.Caminin büyük ve olağanüstü oyma süslemeleri bulunan ana kapısı kuzey cephede yer alır.Kapıdan yan odalara açılan dar bir koridora girilir. Asıl ibadet alanına Bizans başlıklı iki sütunun ortasındaki alçak bir kapıdan girilir.
İbadet mekanın iki yanındaki simetrik odalar, sancaklardan gelenlerin meselelerinin görüşüldüğü yerler olarak yapılmıştı. Doğudaki oda Anadolu Beylerbeyliği'nden gelenler için, batıdaki oda Rumeli Beylerbeyliği'nden gelenler için kullanılıyordu.Daha sonraları bu odalar mahkeme salonu olarak kullanılmıştır.Girişin iki yanındaki merdivenlerle üst kata çıkılır. Yapının üst katında ortada hünkar mahfili, iki tarafında saray daireleri bulunur.
İbadet mekanı, aynı eksen üzerinde üzerli birer kubbe ile örtülü iki ana mekandan oluşur. Kubbelerin çapı 13metre, yerden yüksekliği ise 25metredir. Her iki kubbe büyük bir kemer ve kilit taşı ile birleştirilmiştir.
Yeşil Türbe Yıldırım Bayezid'in oğlu Sultan Mehmet Çelebi tarafından 1421 yılında yaptırılmıştır. Mimarı Hacı İvaz Paşa'dır. Bursa'nın sembolü haline gelen yapı şehrin her yerinden görülebilecek bir konuma sahiptir. I. Mehmet Çelebi sağlığında türbeyi yaptırmış, 40 gün sonra da vefat etmiştir. Türbede Çelebi Sultan Mehmet ile oğulları Şehzade Mustafa, Mahmut ve Yusuf ile kızları Selçuk Hatun, Sitti Hatun, Hafsa Hatun, Ayşe Hatun ve dadısı Daya Hatuna ait olmak üzere toplam 9 sanduka bulunmaktadır.
Dışarıdan bakıldığında tek katlı görünen türbe, sandukaların bulunduğu salon ve bunun altında yer alan beşik tonuzlu mezar odasıyla beraber iki katlıdır. Dış duvarlar turkuaz çinilerle kaplıdır. Türbenin içi, sandukalar, mihrab, duvarlar, cümle kapisi ile cephe kaplamaları da çiniden yapılmıştır. Kıbleye bakan mihrabı bir sanat eseridir. Buradaki çiniler İznik çiniciliğinin şaheser örnekleridir.
Evliya Çelebi'nin gezi yazılarında da türbe ile ilgili bilgi yer almaktadır. Ancak türbeyle ilgili bahis; içinde medfun bulunan Çelebi Sultan Mehmet Han'ın yaşamı üzerinden ele alınmakta, mimari hakkında olarak özel bir bilgi verilmemektedir. Bununla birlikte metinden yapının o dönemde yeşil imaret adı ile anılmakta olduğu öğrenilmektedir.

Bursa Yeşil Türbe - Green Tomb
The Green Tomb (Yeşil Türbe) is a mausoleum of the fifth Ottoman Sultan, Mehmed I, in Bursa, Turkey. It was built by Mehmed's son and successor Murad II following the death of the sovereign in 1421. The architect, Hacı Ivaz Pasha designed the tomb and the Yeşil Mosque opposite to it.

Bursa, Turkey is also known as Green Bursa because of the green tiles decorating some its monuments and for its parks, gardens and national forest. It was the first capital of the Ottoman Empire. We visited the Green Mosque with its spectacular tile work, the Green Tomb featuring several sarcophagi, the Great Mosque which features some of the best Islamic calligraphy anywhere, and the Silk Bazaar, where I negotiated for Bursa silk. All in all, a great day in Bursa.

Spectacular city (Bursa )
The city of Bursa, southeast of the Sea of Marmara, lies on the lower slopes of Mount Uludağ (Mt. Olympos of Mysia, 2543m), with the city deriving its name from its founder King Prusias of Bithynia.
It subsequently came under Roman, then Byzantine rule before it became the first capital of the Ottoman Empire in 1326 under the command of Orhan Gazi. Many important Ottoman buildings still remain in Bursa.
Known as Green Bursa, the city is filled with gardens and parks and overlooks a verdant plain. It is situated at the centre of an important fruit-growing region. Bursa was, and still is, famous for its peaches, silk, towels and thermal springs. Make a point to try the locally invented İskender Kebab, a dish of bread, tomato sauce, strips of grilled meat, melted butter and yogurt! Candied chestnuts are another regional specialty. The tour of the city begins on the east of the city at the Yeşil Türbe (Green Mausoleum). Set in a garden and distinguished by its exterior panelling of tiles, the mausoleum holds the cenotaph of Sultan Mehmet I. Across the street, the Yeşil Mosque of 1424 reflects the new Ottoman, as opposed to Seljuk, aestheticism. A madrasah nearby completes the complex and is also home to the Ethnography Museum. Before exploring this area, stop for a glass of tea in one of the traditional tea houses. Going uphill to the east, you pass the Emir Sultan Mosque in its delightful setting and, after walking through a district of old houses, you reach the Yıldırım Beyazıt Mosque (1391).

Now make your way to Cumhuriyet Square (known locally as Heykel) and stroll along Atatürk Avenue to Koza Park where outdoor cafes are scattered among flowers and fountains! At the back of the park, a long building named the Koza Han (1490) houses the trade in silk cocoons. From here, go on with the covered bazaar area with its narrow streets, caravanserais and bedesten (covered market)! On the other side of Koza Park stands one of Bursa’s oldest religious buildings: The Orhan Gazi Mosque (1339). Nearby is the large Ulu Mosque constructed in the Seljuk style; a finely carved walnut minber (speaker’s platform) and impressive calligraphic panels decorate the mosque. The şadırvan (ablutionary fountain) lies uncharacteristically inside the 20 dome mosque.
Walking west from the Ulu Mosque you arrive at Hisar, an old and picturesque quarter of Bursa. In the park that overlooks the valley are the mausoleums of Osman, the founder of the Ottoman Empire, and his son Orhan Gazi who commanded the army that conquered Bursa. The cafes of Tophane offer a good place to stop for refreshment.
