Trip To Gran Canaria
Me and my wife Ela travel to different places and make videos like this. This time we visit Gran Canaria.
Gran Canaria is the second most popular island of the Canary Islands, an African archipelago which is part of Spain. Located in the Atlantic Ocean.
This island is called a Miniature Continent due to the different climates and variety of landscapes found, with long beaches and dunes of white sand, contrasting with green ravines and picturesque villages.

This is a timelapse showing a night at the 10.4m Gran Telescopio CANARIAS (or Grantecan, or GTC) and the wonders of the Northern Sky from the Observatorio del Roque de los Muchachos in the Island of La Palma (Canary Islands).
Between April 21 and April 24 2015 the Lyrids meteor shower was amazingly visible from the Observatorio del Roque de los Muchachos. I have made a timelapse of the event as seen from different locations around the GTC, collecting 46 hours of continuous shooting (almost 4200 pictures in total) leaving my Canon 5D Mark III (equipped with a Samyang 14mm f2.8) outside on the telescopes platform and inside the telescope enclosure, acquiring the frames while I was the GTC Night Astronomer.
NOTES:
- At 1:50 in the upper-right part of the scene, a huge meteor explodes leaving an expanding red smoke trail
- At 3:12 you can see the ISS transiting above the GTC from the right toward the left low in the sky (North-South)
- During the nighttime scenes you can enjoy green and red beautiful airglow in the sky

Canary Islands - Sun, sea and amazing sights
The islands of the eternal spring, the archipelago Canary Islands, located in the Atlantic Ocean, form a part of Spain, although they are more closely situated to Africa.
The seven islands: La Palma, Tenerife, Gran Canaria, Fuerteventura, Lanzarote, and the two lesser unspoilt islands of Hierro and Gomera, form a part of a volcanic mountain range which
lies beneath the Atlantic Ocean.
The all year sub-tropical climate, which is regulated by the Gulf Stream and Trade Winds, attracts thousands of visitors every year to the islands who come to enjoy the sun, sea, nightlife and hospitality of the Canarian people.
However, it’s all too easy to arrive on your trip to the Canary Islands, plonk yourself on the beach and stay there without actually exploring all of the marvellous attractions that the islands have to offer. So take a tour with our video and get inspired!

Gran Canaria 2015. Arguineguín, Las Palmas & Puerto de Mogán.
Gran Canaria trip in May 2015. Arguineguín, Puerto de Mogán, glass bottom ferry (Puerto de Mogán - Puerto Rico - Anfi - Arguineguín) and Las Palmas as seen from the tower of Catedral de Santa Ana.
I was in Gran Canaria for a week in the beginning of May. We were staying in Arguineguín in the south of Gran Canaria, but also visited Las Palmas, Palmitos Park in Maspalomas and Puerto de Mogán. We stayed at the Sunwing hotel. There's no beach exactly where the hotel is but there are beaches when you walk in either direction. The nicest one is Anfi, which has white sand.
Puerto de Mogán is called Little Venice because of the canals. The white houses with colorful borders and little alleys with flowering trees were the most beautiful view of the whole trip. We went to Puerto de Mogán by bus but came back by a glass bottom ferry.
One morning we took a bus to the capital of Gran Canaria: Las Palmas. We began and ended our walk at the San Telmo bus station. Our route went through the Triana shopping street, Vegueta area with a lot of colorful houses close to each other and the promenade. We went in the Saint Anna Cathedral to see it from the inside and then we turned a corner, took an elevator up and got to the first sightseeing place. And then we walked up the stairs to get to the actual tower. It was pretty windy and cramped up there but the view was amazing.

Gran Canaria is the second most populous island of Canary Island. Located in the Atlantic Ocean about 150 kilometers off the northwestern coast of Africa. Gran Canaria is located southeast of Tenerife and west of Fuerteventura. The island is of volcanic origin, mostly made of fissure vents.
Gran Canaria is the perfect island on which to spend your holiday. A multi-faceted destination, you can enjoy many features you normally wouldn't find in such a small area.
The capital city of Las Palmas, in the north, is the largest city in the Canary Islands and represents an interesting alternative for tourists who can sight-see, spend a day shopping or relax on its world famous beaches.
The greatest natural attraction of Gran Canaria is the climate, which makes it an ideal all year round holiday destination.
Gran Canaria is often referred to as a mini continent not only because of its being situated between 3 continents itself, Africa, Europe and the Americas, but also for its variations in weather, benefitting from the Gulf Stream and the nature of the landscapes around the island. The north is usually cooler than the sometimes fiery heat of the south. Inner regions, being mountainous, can be cloudier and colder with more rain.
The Island of Gran Canaria is situated in the centre of the Canary Islands Archipelago between Tenerife and Fuerteventura. Year-round, spring-like conditions with average monthly temperatures ranging from 18°C in January to 25°C in August make Gran Canaria an ideal destination for both Winter Breaks and Summer Holidays.
Gran Canaria is the third largest of the Canary Islands (after Tenerife and Fuerteventura), but despite it's small size, the island is often described as being like a Continent in Miniature. The Dry South contrasts with the Green Pine Forests of the Mountainous interior and it is not unusual for there to be snow on the peaks while Holidaymakers are sunbathing on the beaches below.
The beaches at Maspalomas are amongst the best in the islands and resort of Playa de Ingles offers some very lively nightlife. If you don't want to spend your nights in a Disco Bar and your days on the Beach, Gran Canaria also offers excellent golfing with 6 Golf Courses and a long tradition of the sport on the island.
The island's capital, Las Palmas, dates back to the 15th century and with a population of nearly 400,000 is by far the biggest city in the islands. The colonial architecture, shopping, bars and restaurants make this city well worth a visit.
Gran Canaria is the best known Island, but it is only the 3rd biggest, after Tenerife and Fuerteventura. It was on Gran Canaria the big Tourist Adventure began, first in Las Palmas, but later on most of the Tourism moved South to places, where the Sun could be counted on.
Tourism has taken over in the Neon lit Cities, bur frankly, The Island is pretty Beautiful, and when leaving Playa del Inglés and Puerto Rico behind, you'll find, that Gran Canaria is much more than the Tourist Cities by the Coast. Take a trip in the Mountains to the Idyllic Villages, with Palm Trees, tall Mountains, gigantic Pine Trees, Volcano Craters and Whitewashed Houses in Villages between Almond Trees.
Here Christmas Flowers and Bougainvilleas grow as big bushes, and Clematis climbs the Walls, and where Fig Cactus and Agaves stands side by side. Or you can take a Trip along the steep West Coast, or a Trip to the middle of the Island, 1949 m above Sea level.
If you have a 2 Week Vacation -- or more, it could be an adventure to visit one of the other Canary Islands, and Ferries and Planes are leaving to the other Islands on a daily basis from Las Palmas and Agaete. When leaving in the morning, it is possible to be back the same Day -- but you can find opportunities to stay the Night, direct from the Street. The smaller Islands are not so stamped by Tourists, so the possibilities of a different Vacation than you will find on one of the bigger Islands are great. Tickets to the other Islands are not expensive, so this type of Vacation is cheap.

10 Things NOT To Do in The Canary Islands
Get more Tips here!
10 Things NOT to Do in the Canary Islands
The Canary Islands, see nine million tourists annually. Before you can enjoy the gorgeous oasis and beautiful mountains of this archipelago of islands, here are 10 things NOT to do during your trip.
1. Don’t Purchase Electronics
If you find yourself in dire need of a new electronic, the islands aren’t the best place to make a purchase. Some electronics shops sell bootleg products, or they try to pass off second-hand items as brand new.
2. Don’t Agree to a Timeshare
They have a selling tactic that includes a scratch-off ticket, and you will always be a winner! These offers will push you to redeem your prize at a local hotel. Then, you’ll be scammed into signing a dishonest timeshare contract with a hefty fee.
3. Don’t Ignore the Beach Signs
The red flag means no swimming. Even if the water looks calm. When the yellow and green flags are waving, it’s best to stick to the patrolled areas. Also, be cautious of jellyfish in the springtime. Avoid swimming and walking around with your shoes off.
4. Don’t Visit Cruz de Tejeda
If you’re looking for sweeping views of the mountains and beaches, skip out this area entirely. Since it’s just 5,000-feet above sea level, there isn’t much of a view. Instead, head out to Mirador del Barranco del Carmen, La Palma to see stunning views of the rugged coastline.
5. Don’t Get a Late Start to See El Teide
If seeing Tenerife’s legendary volcano, El Teide, is on your to-do list, make sure you head out early in the morning. To avoid the crowd, try to arrive by 9 a.m. the latest.
6. Don’t Confuse a Pickpocketer for Someone In Need
Gran Canaria is a relatively low-crime area, but a common tactic is for pickpocketers to pose as beggars. They will get really close to their victim and quickly reach into their pockets to snatch their money and possessions.
7. Don’t Fall for the Puerto de la Cruz Scam
You’ll notice a lot of the locals walking around with pet monkeys, snakes, and parrots. They’ll sometimes place the animals on a child’s shoulders and allow the parents’ to take a photo. After the picture is taken, they’ll demand an insane amount of money.
8. Don’t Go to the Tenerife Beaches
If you want golden sand to wiggle your toes in, the beach in Tenerife shouldn’t be on your list. Since it’s the site of a volcano, most of the beaches are full of black sand that will scorch your feet! For a real sandy beach, head to Los Cristianos instead.
9. Don’t Take the Train Ride In Corralejo
They promise to take you on a tour. After boarding, you’ll realize the tour simply consists of a quick trip around Corralejo’s back streets, and travelers have complained that the tour guides aren’t very knowledgeable.
10. Don’t Accept “Free” Food
Vendors selling slices of pineapple will allow you to “try” a slice – only to demand you pay them up to eight Euro per piece! Just remember, nothing is free. If a deal sounds too good to be true, it probably is!
Where do you want to know what not to do in next?
