Greyfriars Bobby: The Story and The Statue in Edinburgh (Edimburgo, Escócia)
I mixed images from the movie The New Adventures of Greyfriars Bobby (not the Disney one) with my visit to the statue and the Greyfriars Cemetery (or kirkyard, or churchyard), so we can learn Bobby story by scenes of the film and the actual places that this facinating Skye Terrier dog lived.

Greyfriars Bobby was a Skye Terrier who became known in 19th-century Edinburgh after reportedly spending 14 years guarding the grave of his owner, John Gray, until he died himself on 14 January 1872. A year later, Lady Burdett-Coutts had a statue and fountain erected at the southern end of the George IV Bridge to commemorate him.

Greyfriars Bobby Edinburgh - 360 degrees, Virtual Reality tour
We are here at Greyfriars Kirkyard, standing at the memorial of Greyfriars Bobby. He was a Skye Terrier which became known in the 19th century for guarding the grave of his deceased owner for 14 years, until he eventually died himself on the 14th January 1872.
A commemorative statue of Greyfriars Bobby is located at the corner of Edinburghs Candlemaker Row and George the fourth bridge.
Here’s an interesting fact. JK Rowling was inspired by names from this graveyard. And used these for Harry Potter characters such as Tom Riddle.

PRIVATE images when I visited last year. The Skyterrier Bobby 1858-72 as written watched his owners grave Elenor Dickinson wrote a book 1912 about it and Walt Disney did a film about it in1963 Bobby is an ICON for me now.My kids love it and they as I LOVE animalsI was told that the dog actually did lay just to the left side of the entrance to the graveyard but that they had to remove it as too many people stopped/stayed there and did not let enough space for people to go and pay tributes to the real graves none offended I hope !

.Edinburgh Castle is an historic fortress which dominates the skyline of the city of Edinburgh, Scotland from its position on the Castle Rock. Archaeologists have established human occupation of the rock since at least the Iron Age (2nd century AD), although the nature of the early settlement is unclear. There has been a royal castle on the rock since at least the reign of David I in the 12th century, and the site continued to be a royal residence until the Union of the Crowns in 1603. From the 15th century the castle's residential role declined, and by the 17th century it was principally used as military barracks with a large garrison. Its importance as a part of Scotland's national heritage was recognised increasingly from the early 19th century onwards, and various restoration programmes have been carried out over the past century and a half. As one of the most important strongholds in the Kingdom of Scotland, Edinburgh Castle was involved in many historical conflicts from the Wars of Scottish Independence in the 14th century to the Jacobite Rising of 1745. It has been besieged, both successfully and unsuccessfully, on several occasions.
Few of the present buildings pre-date the Lang Siege of the 16th century, when the medieval defences were largely destroyed by artillery bombardment. The most notable exceptions are St Margaret's Chapel from the early 12th century, which is regarded as the oldest building in Edinburgh,[2] the Royal Palace and the early-16th-century Great Hall, although the interiors have been much altered from the mid-Victorian period onwards. The castle also houses the Scottish regalia, known as the Honours of Scotland and is the site of the Scottish National War Memorial and the National War Museum of Scotland. The British Army is still responsible for some parts of the castle, although its presence is now largely ceremonial and administrative. Some of the castle buildings house regimental museums which contribute to its presentation as a tourist attraction.
The castle is in the care of Historic Scotland and is Scotland's most-visited paid tourist attraction, with over 1.2 million visitors in 2011.[3] As the backdrop to the Edinburgh Military Tattoo during the annual Edinburgh International Festival the castle has become a recognisable symbol of Edinburgh and of Scotland.

Avaliação do Ibis Edinburgh Centre Royal Mile no TripAdvisor (

3 days in Edinburgh!
I just love this trip! I've had fun walking around this small yet vibrant city. I'm planning to come back because I still want to tour around the castle and the Palace and visit Arthur's seat. I guess 3 days wasn't really enough to get the most of Edinburgh. I shall return ????
Abraham Lincoln Statue Edinburgh Scotland
Tour Scotland video of photographs of the Abraham Lincoln statue on visit to Old Calton cemetery in Edinburgh. The Scottish, American Soldiers Monument. This is the only statue of Lincoln in Scotland, and one of the few monuments to the American Civil War outside of the USA. Erected in 1893 it depicts a standing figure of Abraham Lincoln, with a freed slave giving thanks at his feet. A bronze shield bears the old USA flag, and is wreathed in thistles to the left, and cotton to the right. Two regimental flags lay furled, the battle being over. The black man holds a book, indicating that he is not only free, he is also now educated. This was one of the first statues to an American President in any country outside of the USA. The monument was erected at American expense to a small group of Scots, only one of whom, William Duff, is buried under the monument, the rest being nearby, to whom it felt indebted, and wished their graves to be marked, despite their later poverty. They had all fought for the Union, the North, in the American Civil War. The inscription, To preserve the jewel of liberty in the framework of Freedom is a quotation from the writings of Abraham Lincoln. Those interred and commemorated are:Sergeant Major John McEwan, Company H, 65th Regiment Illinois Volunteer Infantry; Lt. Col. William L. Duff,] 2nd Regiment Illinois Volunteer Light Artillery, died of wounds on return to Edinburgh.
Robert Steedman, Company E, 5th Regiment Maine Volunteer Infantry. James Wilkie, Company C, 1st Regiment Michigan Volunteer Cavalry; Robert Ferguson, Company F, 57th Regiment New York Volunteer Infantry; Alexander Smith, Company G, 66th Regiment New York Volunteer Infantry. Inscription on the base below the statue of Abraham Lincoln; Emancipation, Education, Union, Suffrage. Inscription on the east face of the pedestal, below the slave; In Memory of Scottish American Soldiers. Inscription on the west face of the pedestal; Unveiled 21st October 1893. A small selection of my personal photographs shot on small group tours of Scotland.

Scott Monument, Edinburgh
The Scott Monument is a Victorian Gothic monument to Scottish author Sir Walter Scott. It stands in Princes Street Gardens in Edinburgh, opposite the Jenners department store on Princes Street and near to Edinburgh Waverley Railway Station, which is named for one of Scott's novels.
The tower is 200 feet 6 inches (61.11 m) high, and has a series of viewing platforms reached by a series of narrow spiral staircases giving panoramic views of central Edinburgh and its surroundings. The highest platform is reached by a total of 287 steps (those who climb the steps can obtain a certificate commemorating their achievement).
